No Nigerian will ever argue that majority of our people are dark skinned, buh the dark skinned definition varies from normal dark skin (which you guys identify as chocolate to extremely dark skin which you guys identify as normal dark skin). Nobody will deny this!

Another thing is that, most Nigerians in Kenya are of poor backgrounds. Rich or middle class Nigerians hardly leave Nigeria to another African country except on schooling or business purposes!
Now, we all know that poorer people in Africa tend to get exposed to the sun day n night and hardly take care of themselves, so of course, they will look darker than those from rich/middle class homes who are always in the air- conditioned comfort of their homes or offices.

Take for instance my maternal grandmother who used to be a rural farmer in the extremely hot northern Nigerian sun. Whenever she leaves her farming to come n spend the holidays with us, you will instantly observe that as she no longer goes into the sun to farm daily, her complexion will just start brightening over time and she will leave lighter than she came and only to come back the next holidays darker.

Are we talking of the normal Nigerian or the rich middle class Nigerian? When you refer to Kenyans as dark, are you also referring to the rich and middle-class? The best representation of a Nigerian is the 'normal' Nigerian who runs a small business in the market, works a small job, is a peasant farmer, a bricklayer, a teacher etc because those make up over 80% of your population. The 1 percenters can alter their appearance if they wish to.

This is sad. These people have some esteem issues. Kenyans vary in skin tones. Nilotes, dark. Western Bantus not so dark. Eastern Bantus mostly lighter. Cushites lighter etc. If you watch Kenyan sports then you will see very dark Kenyans, coz they are dominated by nilotes. Its like watching France football team. Same thing here

Lolz! Nigeria is a black African country daz doesn't necessarily means they're not light skin. I'm black ND reside in Lagos and I have relatives in d core northern hot region who r very light skin... Hope u know what I meant

Good question! well, you could say my clan is a mixture of native Swahili and Swahilized Arabs but arabs of respectable pedigree (Sharifs, descended from the Prophet Muhammad) not the immigrant ones that came to the coast looking for greener pastures, yes there is a difference

Someone told me Swahili is a nation, not a tribe. The swahili nation. Like the Miji Kenda of Kenya are considered Swahili people. And those Arabs identify themselves with Swahilis rather than Arabs. Kenyans generally call those Arabs Swahilis.

You have to look at Swahili people like Dominicans, a group of people who are a mixture of Africans, Natives & Europeans. Some Dominicans identify with their African roots whilst others identify more with their European or native roots but at the end of the day they're all Dominicans.
So, let's take Mombasa for example, you have the Twelve Tribes (Native Swahilis), Swahilized Africans & Swahilized Arabs. Naturally the Arab Swahili will identify more with Arabia then a Swahili Pokomo-Kenyan but they're both Swahili connected by their mother tongue language, culture and beliefs.

That was the simple lazy breakdown but the Swahili coast is a little more intricate than that.

I'm a Swahili from Tanzania and what I have noticed is the Kenyan Swahilis have a more well defined Swahili identity than the Tanzanian ones, I think they might be more Arabized as well but I'm rambling
