It is undisputable fact that Nigeria has the biggest economy in Africa. However, the crux of the debate here is, why then isnt Nigeria a highly developed country? Why is it still exhibiting a lot of those challenges characteristic of underdeveloped economies, and that should a much smaller economy like Kenya pip it in some, if not most of the aspects indicating quality living standards?

Oh, u are going to say it is because of the difference in population size, but again Nigeria has a bigger Gdp pc than Kenya!

Btw, London has a much larger Gdp than Sweden.

Are there some people still supporting Mengistu? It could be that the govt doesnt want this to serve as a shrine for those supporters of that murderous Derg regime.

They should actually demolish such monuments built by Mengistu.

The city of Jenne-Jeno is a ruin, so I think the walls is in ruins. Jenne-Jeno and Djenne are both in Mali.The Great Mosque was built originally in 1200s and rebuilt during colonization in 1907. Djenne is settled by the Songhai people.

Dhar Tchitt is in Southern Mauritania. The people who built it were the Soninke people of the Mande people group. The city was abandoned and it fell into ruins.

But we have read a lot about the Mengistu regime, even in the Kenyan history books, his regime is characterised with widespread murders, brutality and running down of the Ethiopian economy thru its communist policies.

While I am not writing off the Derg regime as a total failure, that it surely had some positive accomplishments in Ethiopia, but the fact that so many people suffered during that era is irrefutable.

The current EPRDF regime, despite some of its shortfalls, has surely done a lot to turn around that country once severly devastated by war and famine. The current upward development trajectory in Ethiopia is impressive, dont u agree?

I hope you know that for a population of 200 million a 415 billion dollar GDP isnt exactly somethibg to brag about.

One of the main problem of nigeria is it undervisified economy, For a sector that accounts for only avout 20% of the total GDP, the Nigerian government has relied too much on the oil and gas sector, marginalizing other sector of the economy, and this was as a result of having clueless, guillible people, people who belongs to the barrack , peoople who have no business in politics. And this bring me to the second point.

Military Dictatorship, and this my friend is the cause of the problems of nigeria, If not for democracy god knows where nigeria will be by now(probably with the likes of UGANDA).

To me Nigeria only started developing 17 years ago, and considering where it is today i think you need to cut us some slack, we know we are not where we should be, but what we do know is we are on the right path.
