I rep No. 83, Badagry Grammar School (1955) - NIL SINE LABORE The Anthem: Badagry Town, Door of Civilization, First Christianity, and Merchant the next; Then follow Orders and Regulations And Yorubas with Eguns were at rest O Fount of knowledge, We all cried up to Thee, Guide us at work and guide us at play; We shall climb the highest, the uppermost tree, If the teachers are taught by thy Led. Grant us Oh Lord, that our days may be ample, After our course in school has been run; Oh Blessed Jesus who trained all the simple, Arise and shine Oh Thou Eternal Son C.A. Duru on my mind. Up BGS!!! |

sorry1: You are just contradicting yourself. I can use the same logic and say those who are 100% christians or 100% Muslims are complete zombies that alll fell into the same pit and allowed themselves to be cornered into one ideology by external forces. Yorubas arguably have one of the strongest cultures in Nigeria, so your earlier point is moot. "Any culture" does not thrive in Yorubaland, it is the other way round, Yoruba culture assimilates people into its fold, and that is how how progressive cultures expand world over. You would be surprised the huge number of people that Yoruba culture has assimilated into "Yorubaness". 3 Likes 1 Share |

sorry1:Only Weaker culture assimilates whatever comes? lol.... Maybe English is your problem, but let me break it down for you. Stronger or more prestigious cultures assimilates weaker cultures world over. You can't be saying the people assimilating others are the ones with a weaker culture. The early start Yorubas had in terms of Education is a lucky twist of fate, that's all. The Yorubas had the earliest exposure to mass scale Western Education in Nigeria, and that head start is part of what has them made them great till today. Despite that, they kept most of their original cultures intact. It is ironic that today, those with the less significant western contact are the ones who worship western culture the most in Nigeria. 3 Likes |
