In Islam, a woman is not permitted to take her husband's name. She is supposed to retain her family name. Most Muslims do not know that, though.

It makes me wonder. Our mothers aren't bearing their father's name.

Now we have a lady, married bearing Atinuke Oguntade Johnson.

Oguntade her father's name and Johnson her husband's name.

What is behind this Pls. Share your opinion.

As for me, my wife will not still carry her Father's name.

I hope this go front page.

Wrong about bolded. Your own mother may have taken your father's family name but if you go back to your grandmother or greatgrandmother, you will find nothing like that. Taking your husband's surname is a concept brought by the Europeans.

We both know that women who don't drop their father's name are the minority, so you probably not have anything to worry about.

Now I'm wondering. Does keeping her father's name make a woman less married to her man?
You dey mind them?

Which Islam are you talking about? y'all full of brainwashing tactics sha, but tell you what, women are smartening up and taking over their own lives instead of waiting for one lowlife thief grin for daily bread which is the only reason to bully her into any trick you have up your sleeves.
Get a life dude and stop snooping into people's life decisions. Look for another topic to discuss.

I am talking of how these things came about. African women did not change or adopt any name until the Europeans came. The Europeans invented the idea. Today, we are the ones carrying it on our heads, like everything else they handed us while they no longer take it so seriously. I hope you understand now?

Retaining her own name is brainwashing tactics?
Whatever, I don't understand your whole comment. It is okay, I don't really want to. Rant away, get it off your chest.
