In Islam, a woman is not permitted to take her husband's name. She is supposed to retain her family name. Most Muslims do not know that, though.

Wrong about bolded. Your own mother may have taken your father's family name but if you go back to your grandmother or greatgrandmother, you will find nothing like that. Taking your husband's surname is a concept brought by the Europeans.

I am talking of how these things came about. African women did not change or adopt any name until the Europeans came. The Europeans invented the idea.
