As I have said before, you are talking of us changing strategy. Playing a lone striker system does not mean the strikers play the same way. Messi played as a lone striker but the system requires the team work together. Rohr does not coach the Mourinho way. He will not keep his team compact at the back with a big man upfront.

His style is more modern and a player like Nacho works for him. You can not tell Guardiola to play Bony upfront. Guardiola will play Sterling and De Bruyne before Bony.
What has Gernot Rohr achieved in his career with the so called morden coaching methods? The man have been a journey man. Rather than discussing in platitudes and ideologies we should be looking at a more pragmatic approach.
Something workable that will see us beat the team in front of us. You can bookmark this, if that same attack I saw against SA, Corsica and even Togo file out against Cameroon, what we will witness will be worse than a horror movie.
We didn't win the last nations cup with little attackers who couldn't hold the ball up. Go watch the past 10 Afcon winners and point out the ones who won with a little lone forward.
This is Africa football. Dont forget.

Defend what decision? If it was a bad decision or not, the bottom line was that in the view of the technical bench, Kelechi was not doing well in the game. I have been saying from day 1,he was lost in the game.
The decision to pull him off could be open to interpretation but the underling fact there was that he had a bad game.

Since Victor Moses is unavailable for the game, advocating for Kelechi to start in the same position is like saying more of the same. If we don't try a different combination up front. We may not earn more than 1 point in both games against these people. God forbid.

Advocating against Iheanacho is downright bad belle-ish, hw many goals does he have to score to earn some respect? I have no doubt he would have scored if let on because he is a difference maker, u don't take those types of players out unless injured. U said he was lost but who wouldn't be lost when every pass ends up no less than 5 ft away? The coach took an easy way out, the system failed not the striker.

Who not go and apply for the job hence you know more than a man who coached Zidane, Dugarry and Lizarazu to a UEFA Cup Final.

You do not know different coaches have different strategies. You have not heard of coaching philosophy before.

Did I suggest Etebor? No

I will rather play a natural CF like Martins, Kayode and Adi against Cameroon. EOD.

On his feat, Nacho can but on the air, I am sorry he is not good enough.

Arsenal and Man City discuss possible Iheanacho or Aguero exchange for Sanchez

ARSENAL and Manchester City have reportedly begun talks over a move for Alexis Sanchez - which could involve the Gunners landing a striker in return.

By Jack Staplehurst

PUBLISHED: 15:55, Sat, Jul 1, 2017 | UPDATED: 16:39, Sat, Jul 1, 2017

Sanchez's future at the Emirates remains hugely uncertain as he enters the final year of his contract.

The Chile international revealed yesterday while away at the Confederations Cup it is clear in his mind where he wants to play next season.

But the 28-year-old stopped short of disclosing any details, admitting he does not know his chances of staying at Arsenal.

Reports have today suggested Sanchez may be sold this summer if he is set on leaving and a suitable offer comes in.

City are frontrunners to land the Gunners forward and secure a reunion with former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola.

And with Alexandre Lacazette close to completing a move to Arsenal from Lyon, it could spell the end for Sanchez.

According to The Gambling Times, City are ready to be patient over a deal while the Gunners hope to reach an agreement with their star man over a new contract.

Arsene Wenger will want to convince Sanchez to put pen to paper, but Arsenal have started discussing their alternatives.

It is said, while Lacazette would go a long way to filling the hole left by Sanchez, a possible player exchange with City has been spoken about.
A figure of around £50million has been mooted for Arsenal's top goalscorer last season, despite being available for free next summer as things stand.

However, City could reduce that fee by sending a player the opposite way.

Sergio Aguero has apparently been mentioned, although the experienced City star has insisted he will not leave the Etihad.

Gabriel Jesus' arrival has created stronger competition for a place up front at the Etihad, but Aguero is determined to stay and fight.

Kelechi Iheanacho, meanwhile, looks set to leave with Guardiola ready to sell.

West Ham and Leicester are the favourites to sign the £25m-rated striker, who has shown his potential when called upon for City.

And The Gambling Times add a possible exchange deal involving Sanchez and Iheanacho has been discussed.

The 20-year-old would offer solid support for Lacazette and could prove a worthy investment if Sanchez leaves for rivals City.

NFF refuses to accept FIFA’s new date for Super Eagles clash against Cameroon

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have not accepted the shift in date by FIFA, for the Super Eagles’ 2018 World Cup qualifier against Cameroon in Uyo.

The world football governing body, has moved the date from September 1 to August 30, because of issues bordering on television broadcast.

Nigeria have, however, not responded to the new date communicated to them last week, as they hope to persuade FIFA not to move the match backward.

NFF sources say a fresh request will be sent, for the game to go on September 1.

It is expected to be submitted to FIFA later this week for consideration.

Ajegunle To Stardom: The rise of Nigerian football stars from a dreadful slumb

Several Nigerian football stars including Samson Siasia, Taribo West, Emmanuel Amuneke, Ikpe Ekong, Brown Ideye and current highest paid African player Odion Ighalo all grew up from the 'dreadful ghettos' of Ajegunle in Lagos.

AJ, as the small 'city' is proudly called by residents, is a place elite Nigerians regard to be a den of robbers, hoodlums, prostitutes and people with all forms of social vices. Most people who have never been to this environment also believe it is a home to the extremely poorest. But it turned out to be the starting point for most household names in Nigerian football and music.

Location of Ajegunle

Ajegunle is Yoruba word which is broken down as Aje gunle meaning a place where riches dwell. In other words, a land with raw and untapped treasures (talents). The neighbourhood is located in the heart of Lagos state, Nigeria in Ajeromi-Ifelodun local government area.

It is bordered on the west by Apapa Wharf and Tincan, two of Nigeria's biggest sea ports, through which over 70 percent of imported goods come into the country.

The Maracana stadium in Ajegunle

This is the main pitch where all the football stars from Ajegunle began their career. It was founded in 1979 by some youths who decided to clear the massive bush to play football.

The first football club there was named Marine Dynamos. A top member of the Maracana All Stars football team Felix Ganagana who also had a stint in France disclosed how they came about the name 'Maracana'."We used to play for Marine Dynamos in 1979 and used to train and play matches inside the Tolu Complex," he started."But when Governor Lateef Jakande won the election at that time, he promised free education and the school compound was to be rebuilt, so we had to look for a place to continue with our game."We cleared this pitch in October and then started playing here by November 1979."Asked why the place was named Maracana, Ganagana revealed that the name was inspired by the famous Maracana Stadium in Brazil.

"I remember at that time, we had a meeting and one of the members of the team Tata Dickson said this place is wide, let us name it after the Maracana stadium in Brazil. We all agreed and this is what we have now."

Ajegunle, the breeding ground for Nigeria's national teams

The people there are soccer-crazy. From the little child to the aged, both male and female have an unbelievable passion for the game.Football competitions at every level from the under 8s, 10s, 13s, 17s, 20s and to other age levels are played day-in-day-out in the city.

Surrounding the famous Maracana Stadium is the Tolu Complex which is said to contain a massive 14 Secondary Schools and 18 Primary Schools, you dare not imagine how the field will look-like after school hours.

Most of the boys resume to the famous pitch as soon as their school closing bell rings.

Future stars without any standard stadium

"We have written series of letters to the Lagos state government," coach Michael Adewale Adebayo began.

"We know Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has good plans for us and in fact we are working on something at the moment."We are working in collaboration with the Senior Special Assistant to the President Abike Oluwatoyin Dabiri-Erewa who is getting in touch with the Lagos state governor on our behalf as regards the development of this environment," he added.

Coach Adewale Adebayo who is also the president of the Maracana All Stars football team also appealed to the government to look inwards and also fulfill its promises to the people."I want to appeal that government of the day should come to our rescue. Having a place like this which chunks-out players day-in-day-out, we plead that the government give us a stadium here."To be specific, I believe Governor Ambode will do it, he has told us not once, not twice, I am certain we will have a good stadium.Elders of the community also believe that more stars will rise from the area who will bring glory to the nation.Meanwhile, check out the top stories from last week in our weekly compilation of THE SCOOP. He was lost in the game because the midfield was poor. Is that too difficult to get? With better incisive passes he would not be lost in the game. Even Suarez will perform poorly without good services. Quit your campaign against Iheanacho. Most here watched the game and can clearly see that our midfield was the problem. Fix the problem first. Talking Iheanacho is fantasy.

I don't know why we fans won't solve problem from the root, if u see ur striker is not good at air why not play ground pass, are we trying to say we should start inviting tall players cos we cant play one good ground pass or accurate pass.

who ever is shouting on Iheanacho is very biased, the coach shld be blamed for not using what u have effectively.

if u see ur opponents are tall it is foolishness to play ball in the air, against Cameroon we shouldn't try it cos they will so much disgrace us.

I believe Mikel will stabilize the midfield, and why is it that iheanacho is the talk of town? is it because he plays for city? a big club, but Iwobi also plays for arsenal, why is nobody talking abt him?

The system failed because he didn't deploy the right personnel to fit into his system. One of which was Kelechi playing the lone striker role.

Will respect qualify us for the World Cup and Afcon? Its like most of you have forgotten so soon we haven't managed to qualify for 2 Afcons back to back. You need to have a reality check.
It's not like I am advocating for Kelechi to be dropped from the match day squad. I have clearly advocated that he should be tried as the second striker like he played against Zambia.
This cheap blackmails to have other forumites prejudiced against me as "Kelechi hater" won't stop me from blowing my whistle.

Why will I not bring Favre you tried to exalt above Klopp but you are here ridiculing Rohr who did more with his Bordeaux team than Favre. It is just sentimental criticism. You want Rohr who is a German to change his philosophy to fit your long ball tall striker strategy forgetting that there is a revolution in Germany with more coaches adapting modern possessive methods.

I think you're quoting the wrong person. Komekn was the person who made the Favre and Klop comparison. I know I have mentioned Favre in the past but not on this particular line of discussion.

Your second point about Germany does not hold water because the same Germans brought back a semi retired Mario Gomez for their world cup campaign (he's big strong and all that you know) .
If Rohr was German enough, he will bring back the big guys.

Once again German teams are adopting more modern possessive approach. You can not change it with story and you do not need to buy it. From their clubs to their academies. Guardiola used to hold sessions with Coaches teaching them his methods.

Yet you want Rohr to adopt long ball to tall attacker strategy.

How does bringing Mario Gomez back in any way equate to German teams adopting modern methods? Na wa for you.

No Point hypothesising. The clear fact here is that the morden Germany recalled Mario Gomez for their Euro 2016 campaign to play that target man role their 4-2-3-1 formation required.
Need I remind you that Rohr modelled the 4-2-3-1 formation he favours for the SE from his country's national team.

Which begs the question, if Germany recalled the big Mario Gomez for their European campaign to play same formation we are copying, what stops us from copying well?

This is the one reason I am gradually losing interest in coming here. When certain people cannot help displaying "their obvious bias".

This is why it is easy to play the "hate card" with TheSupernerd.... all because he is pointing out that certain analyses on a few players here is based on subtle or obvious(in some cases) dislike and not sound sincere analysis.

When guys like Sir Goldfish80 keeps coming up with outrageously shape-shifting and Posts-shifting comments on Iheanacho.

I mean.... This is what I have been fighting against on this thread......Full blown Bias some people display in the name of "Almighty Opinion"

First it was Mikel... now it is Iheanacho. Smh.

I am not saying don't call out poor performances or fumblings by our team... but do so sincerely and not to rubbish a player's obvious potentials and abilities. Downplaying his strengths and making a player look like he is sh*t.

Okay now... Someone says he prefers an Etebo to start upfront in place of the much more lethal Nacho. Like seriously?? What happens to the big striker talk naa? And someone keeps denying that the midfield was the problem... everything falls on Nacho. Everything... every damn thing. Amazing analysts really.... lol

Anyway... in other news...

Martins banged in a brace for his Chinese club recently... and I was just smiling for two reasons...

1.) He brought back keen memories of the years when he was known not just as Obagoal but as "The weapon of mass destruction" (WMD). Now those years are gone. We have a new weapon and more weapons rising strong. Martins remains one of the Finest strikers we produced but right now He is not the savior we need. The issue is not in attack but in midfield. Nacho and Kayode in attack (CF) is enough for now. More will rise.... #GospelTruth.

2.) I could bet a hundred dollars that Forgiveness will post the news himself grin

I was not disappointed at all.... Looking at the last few pages.... He did in emphatic fashion. lol

"Selective Journalism" has become the order of the day on this thread by a few ba? Posting good news of your favorites but ignoring good news of players you don't fancy right? He did this when England led by Solanke conquered the world at the U-20 World cup... selectively picking up news irrelevant to the Super Eagles just to attempt belittling our young stars.

I have been waiting for him to replicate same with Nacho recently.... News from few days back shows Nacho Still has the best goals per mins ratio in EPL history. Wonder why he skipped that... lol

This is really becoming childish. When I post news here... I do it for all players and with the Super Eagles in mind.... I don't do it to glorify just one or two players...

It is about the team... *The team* NOT individuals.

This is sad. I only have to come back occasionally because of wonderful personalities here like TheGoodJoe, BascoVanVeli, Chief Icon4s and a couple more... some of whom I have had a few major disagreements with in the past. We cannot all be on the same sides in certain discussions but at least... let things be done with sincerity (even on opposite sides of debates) and not childish bias. It is sickening. Very irritating.

I am focused on a golden generation emerging strong and Some folks wanna take us backwards because they got so-called favorites. They want us to settle for less than the best we have! How lame and wicked!!!

We are talking of our best Super Eagles XI and Best Reserves XI and some people say Iheanacho is not good enough?? But Anichebe is good enough... Ehmmmm Martins will do a better job... even Ighalo will excel... imagine the lame talks...

Anyway.... let the Cameroon game come. I know some folks here really pray we lose both games if Iheanacho starts as the CF so that that will be the final stand they take to completely annihilate Iheanacho's name from national team history. This campaign against one super talented young man is baffling...

But I assure you all.... In time, You shall eat your words just like how some ate theirs when It came to Mikel's relevance in the Super Eagles team. This is becoming much more than just stating an opinion.... Some people just want Iheanacho out of the team. #Fact.

And then you accuse me of saying you hate a player.... when it is so bloody obvious?? Abeg.... we can run around in circles on this but I am no fool... I may be young but I have been in this game of analyses in my studies, writings and more... and I know my psychology pretty well... I have also been following the "Beautiful game" since the age of seven.

Words carry meanings... through consistent/repeated utterances in writing from various angles, I can easily deduct when you just don't like someone... I can trace the origins of a single comment made by people active on this thread..... it cannot be hidden. Deny it all you want... but the truth stares you in the face.

I won't reply whosoever quotes this post to spill trash... I don't have such time again to grace such replies. I have a dream for the Rise of Nigeria's Next Super Golden Generation... and not silly arguments out to belittle the obvious super potentials and abilities in our young players.

I don't expect many to agree with me. But This thread is about the Super Eagles and The Dawn of a new era.... that era will come... and it is bigger than just one player.

Official – Emmanuel Emenike Completes €2m Transfer To Greek Giants Olympiakos

Turkish giants Fenerbahce have announced the transfer of Nigerian striker Emmanuel Emenike to Greek super house Olympiakos for a fee in the region of 2 million euros.

Emenike has endured a torrid time at Fenerbahce especially with the fans, and at a point the striker threatened to walk out of a game due to boos from fans of his own team.

His relationship with the fans, coupled with his poor form made the team send him out on loan two seasons ago, firstly to Al-Ain of the UAE and later West Ham before his return to the team before the start of last season.

He failed to nailed down a spot in the team after a brilliant start, and was at a point in time banished from the first team before an apology lead to his reinstatement in February.

Heavily linked with a move to Ukraine side Shakhtar Donestk, Olympiakos won the race for his signature and he pen a two year deal with the Greek champions with the option of another year.

Ironically he will be replacing his former strike partner in the Nigeria national team Brown Ideye who left the team in January for Chinese side Tianjin Teda.

William Troost-Ekong Close In On Move To Bursaspor After Agreeing Personal Terms – Reports

According to reports reaching the editorial desk of Owngoalnigeria.com Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has agreed personal terms with Turkish side Bursaspor.

Sportiv reports that the 23 year old is one of the prime target of new coach of Bursaspor Paul Le Guen, and with 12 months left to run on his deal with Gent of Belgium there’s every possibility of the move happening.

Although the Turkish side are yet to reach an agreement with Gent over his transfer, they have met with his representatives who have now open talks with Gent over his move.

Gent on their part have been on a signing spree with reports having it that a defender has been signed already to make up for the possible departure of Troost-Ekong, who played the last six months of last season at the club after an 18 months loan spell with FK Haugesund of Norway.

Last night he fuelled rumours of his impending departure from Gent when he posted pictures of himself watching a game of his former loan side Haugesund, while the rest of his teammates are sweating it out in Gent’s pre season camp.

FC Porto – Returning Super Eagles Midfielder Mikel Will Replace Ruben Neves

FC Porto will not be signing a replacement for Wolverhampton Wanderers bound midfielder Rueben Neves as Nigerian midfielder Mikel Agu who is returning to the team after a loan spell at Vitoria Setubal will take his spot.

Neves is closing in on a £18m move to the English Championship side from the Portuguese giants, and Agu will take his spot in the team according to several informed sources at the club.

Agu has been on the books of since 2012 but injuries and fitness issues has denied him the chance to fulfil the potential that made the club snap him up when he was just 18 years old.

An injury which ruled him out of the entirety of the 2015/2016 season when he was on the verge of the first team robbed him off the chance to make an impression during their pre season training.

A loan spell at Belgium side Club Brugge didn’t quite work well as expected as he only managed to play just two games all season long, but he redeemed his status as a rising star with a strong showing for Vitoria Setubal last season.

He made 27 league appearances Setubal, a form which earned him fresh terms with FC Porto at the end of last season, and with Neves now set to depart the team, Agu will be expected to push for a spot when the team commence preparations ahead of next season.

Official – Portuguese Top League Side Tondela Unveils Nigerian “Sergio Ramos” Junior Udeme Pius

As exclusively reported by this football portal on the 18th of June 2017, highly rated Nigerian defender Junior Udeme Pius has completed his move to Tondela.

The top division Portuguese side unveiled the 21 year old yesterday, and as earlier reported by this portal his deal will run for three years. A move he earned due to his fine performances for third division side Sanjonense.

He joined Sanjonense fron FC Porto where he played for their B team in the 2015-2016 season, but failed to make the grade at the club which lead to his release.

Tondela were originally second favourite to sign the defender dubbed “Nigerian Sergio Ramos” but Rio Ave who were in the driver’s seat to sign him were slow in pushing through a deal on time.

Last season while at Sanjonense he played 38 games and found the back of the net 8 times, a remarkable tally for a man who as a central defender is supposed to be effective in stopping and not scoring goals.

Claudio Ranieri Eager For FC Porto To Sanction Chidozie Awaziem Loan Move To Nantes

Claudio Ranieri the new coach of French Ligue 1 side Nantes is yet to begin work with one of his first signings at the club Chidozie Awaziem due to reasons beyond his control.

Awaziem was supposed to have joined the team a week ago on loan from FC Porto as part of the deal that saw coach of the Ligue 1 side Sergio Conceaio move to the Portuguese giants, but Porto have refused to honour the pact.

Already Nantes have commenced preparations for the new season, and they have even sent their own part of the paper works to Porto, who are yet to respond with their own part of the deal, a situation that has left Ranieri frustrated.

Recently capped Super Eagles defender Awaziem arrived Portugal few days ago on Porto’s insistence, and as exclusively reported by this portal will meet with the hierarchy of the team alongside his agent to trash out the remaining details of the deal.
The loan was originally supposed to give Nantes the option to buy the 20 year old defender for 10 million Euros, but Porto have reportedly forced Nantes to accept the loan without the option to buy Awaziem permanently next summer .
