1.what sizes/stages of fishes are u bringing to ur pond..eg..fingerlings, juvenile or table size..well u might not need to disinfect them if u are bringing them from a trusted farm..mostly if u are bringing in fingerlings or juveniles..

2. You can wash ur tarp pond with salt or better still use fish bioxide after which you soak it with water for some days before using...and dont forget to drain the water and refil with fresh water before stocking...hope this helps..

Plastic is OK..but I will recommend u use tarpoline, seeing that it comes in better shapes than plastic tanks..and is also more flexible than the plastic tank..in terms of comparison with concrete, the most important thing will depend on your management..in my opinion apart from earthen pond that has significant advantages,there is not much difference between concrete and tarpoline ponds...

There could be soo many things wrong apart from your water.
1. The maturity of the male and female broot
2.Latency period of injected female before. Stripping
3. Operation period which should not be more than ten minutes
4. Protection of sperm from direct contact with ordinary water
4. Placement of spawning vat for effective ovygenisation
5 Quality of water into the vat
6. Level of oxygen in your vat during incubation
7 Temperature and a whole lot of other things the video would not tell you. If you are aroud Abuja you can come over for free practical next weekend or I wiil do short video of my next spawning and send to you on whasapp

Tarpoline should be slightly cheaper than plastic pond if they are both carrying the same capacity...unfortunately I don't reside in Abuja so I don't have any contact regarding cost of either tarpoline or plastic ponds..But you can contact Asher ponds, I think they do Nationwide delivery and they also have price catalogue for each tarpoline size..

Fingerlings are 15 naira while Juveniles are 35 naira. Broodstocks are about 7,000 a pair. Why buy eggs when you can own the chicken?
Are you in Abuja and you need to setup an hatchery on your existing fish farm?

I had to seek help from other farmers, but every farm I went to I noticed they where all also running at loss.. That was when I decided heading to songhai farms at benin repurblic.. At songhai I learnt all what I was suppose to know concerning fish farming, from how to hatch( spawning) to management, feed formulation and what have u..

I came back full of wisdom and found out what I did and did not do for for the failure of my farm.. First off if you have never started hatching on your own,my brother u have not started yet..so I carefully built my own hatching ponds and with what I learnt I gave it a shot and it was successful, I nurtured them to fingerlings stage and I got over THIRTEEN THOUSAND FINGERLING at my first try..

I selected the best 4000 fingerlings for stocking for the next 5 months and sold the rest.. Dis is one aspect for the failure of fish farmers.. Most hatchery selects the best (shooters)for themselves and sell runts to farmers, And we constantly feed these runts without attaining a reasonable wieght thereby loosing our hard earned money and waste our precious time..
IDENTIFYING RUNTS AS FINGERLINGS

If u still buy fingerlings from other farms please my brother follow the guidelines below so your investment does not go down the drain..

1. Only buy fingerlings from recommended farms, especially those who specialise in the production of fingerlings and juvenile..

2. Runts head seems to be whitish in colour, their body is thinner and is not proportionate in size to the head,they are like unfed children..

3. Buy fingerlings or juveniles only from farms who use male and female fishes (brood stock) equal to or above 1.5kg..

Good day ladies and gentlemen. Have a wee number of questions. Have a 10*7*4* feet high density polythene tank with recommended number of 500 to table size. Based in Kaduna. Thinking of doing up to melange stage. Im a JJC to catfish farming. Have a wee number of questions:
(1) Would it be advisable to order post juvenile/jumbo all the way from Lagos? (of course going to oder from @robinski15) If yes-how many should i order to make up for losses on the way. If not,does anyone have a the contact details of a reliable seller here in Kaduna?
(2) Is the salt/wood ash recommended for the tank prior to putting in the fish?
(3) Is adding salt to the water recommended prior to putting the fish to decrease stress?
(4) How often should one add salt to the water-after every change of water?
(5) Would it be recommended yo install an aerator in the tank?
(6) @robinski15 mentioned using vital 2mm for 2-3 months for melange. Would Skrettin 2/4mm serve the same purpose?

Good evening all. Please I direly need your advice especially the gurus in the house. I am new in catfish business but have a friend that knows about it. I moved the fishes (about 2100) from 2 earthen ponds of 30*50m each to a virgin pond of 30*55m 3 weeks ago. My friend treated the new pond before introducing the fishes. After 3 days, we sold about 400 and there was no death before and few days after the sales. The average weight was 0.7g to 1.0kg after 4 months 1 week from juvenile at the point of sales. The fishes were fed with Durante for 1 month, then Vital feeds for 2 months and local feeds afterwards. we were buying local feeds from a feedmill but unaware of the formulae been used as they refused to disclose it. After a week in the new pond, I started observing 1 death daily and later it became 2 daily.
We then introduced another feeds formulae last Thursday for improved results but now have disastrous deaths - over 10 today. There is no strange physical observation on any of the dead fish. The details of the newly introduced feeds is as detailed below for your review, analysis and advice:
