Paraguay was the last port of arrival of African slaves in Americas, and they, mostly of Angolan, Nigerian and Kenyan origin. The first batch of African slaves arrived in Paraguay in 1556. The blacks were mostly Yoruba people from Nigeria, Kongo (Ambundu, Umbundu etc) people from Angola and Kamba people from Kenya. The Afro-Paraguayans (Afroparaguanyos) who are also known as "pardos" were concentrated in three communities in the Eastern region of the country. They are the Kamba Cuá, Kamba Kokue (meaning "chacra de negros"- black farm in Guarani language), and Emboscada.


Kenyans should appreciate the Akamba who live in Paraguay in South America for maintaining and prompting the Akamba culture – and therefore Kenyan culture in America for centuries.

From what we hear, it has not always been easy for them with governments that want to deny them of their right to be Kambas.

The Kambas founded the two most significant cities for African Paraguayans, the most important being Kamba Cuá where the dance and culture are derived from the main Kamba dance in Kenya. Their ballet is the only Afro-Paraguayan expression in the country. It premiered at the Folk Festival peach “Uruguay Yi sings in” 1992, where it won the “Golden charrúa”.

Do proper research man! India [with over 600 tribes and languages] is more diverse than Nigeria yet they are still a united country. Even Kenya that you mentioned have more than 62 tribes speaking different languages. Furthermore, there are over 100 tribes/ ethnic groups in Ghana but they still love themselves. The only dividing factor within them was Islam/Hinduism divide which drastically ended as soon as Pakistan left.

Kenya is a clear dominantly Bantu and christian nation.

Kenyan ethnic groups never belonged to ancient Kingdoms and empires that were at war against each for centuries.

Nigeria and perhaps Ethiopia are the only African countries that have ethnic groups from different feuding past African Kingdoms and Empires all amalgamated and forced together in one country.

So, you can see that it is not the same.

First, Kenya is only politically United. There is a lot of tribalism which expresses itself in government procurement, hiring, selective development, etc. Just like in any other country.

May be it's not ethnic diversity in Nigeria, but tribalism?

It seems like social media has really done much harm to Nigerian unity. The kind of ethnic hatred you find between Nigerians on social media is completely different from what we see in real life in Naija.

We attend the same churches, mosques, schools, working places, parties, clubs, conferences, cinemas and live on the same streets, estates, compounds e.t.c and the issue of ethnicity or religion does not surface, only for you to come on social media and you think Nigeria is disintegrating tomorrow.
