Well, there always room to overlook anything.


When I set out to pick my selections, I made sure I first pick those that followed the rule. I can only opt for those that didn't follow the rule and only if the ones that follow the rules are not enough.

In such competition as this, for next time's sake, ensure you follow the rules because the judges are there to check if these writers follow the stipulated rules or not. Commonwealth short story competition would be on us soon. Next month, we will be having Nairaland battle which is focused on how people can say a lot with little word count(e.g 140 characters). Etisalat Flash Fiction(300 words) will be here soon. What will you now do? Will just exceed the word count?

I saw really great works but some people wrote 2250 words, 1500 words. Should we now pick them over those that followed the rule? No matter how good a person is if he cannot conform to the rule of a competition such person should work on his writing skills.

No one would tell you what you did wrong or right. If none of the judges picked you, go back and read your stories and figure out for yourselves what you did wrong.

Adhering to rules is one thing, writing a story with an awesome storyline is another. You guys are making it seem like the rules are all there is to being selected.

You guys should also bear in mind that the judges are only allowed to select 7 writers, hence, they can't pick everybody at once.

Henceforth, anybody who tries to sulk at the judges or make any derogatory statement about the selection process would be automatically disqualified!
