nemesis2u: Urrgghhh! Forumers have no idea the effects of animals even creepy crawlies like this on combat conditions. That's because they only know the tacticool pics and carefully cherrypicked yt vids! Btw,tarantulas are also edible-roasted,they taste like shrimp! The inch long fangs can be used a toothpick. In leech infested territory you won't find me without reinforced underwear, goddammit! If I somehow do find myself unprotected in leech land I'm doing a Bolt! Known large carnivores aren't the only danger-do you know the large antelopes, elands, oryx and kudu can and do charge when cornered? Also they often weigh 250 kg+ with at least 2 feet of sharp horns. In the late 70s a platoon of either 5th or 9th KR was doing tactical infil techniques in a savannah forest area in Samburu. The pointman suddenly stopped dead get off 2 quick shots while everyone else ducked hearing thundering hooves wondering WTF. An oryx ran him through and didn't stop for at least 200m. One horn went 2 inches below his left collar bone the other through his right lung. The platoon found him still clutching his FN,bled out. They even impale lions! 1 Like

THE FINNO RUSSO WAR OF 1939 Not enough has been written of Russia's invasion of Finland in Nov 30,1939. 140 mn against 3.5 mn-no contest. Stalin had just grabbed the Baltic states and expected his army to roll over the Finns with good reason having 3 x the infantry,25x the planes and 100x the tanks. It didn't go according to plan. Firstly, the Finns retreated destroying all housing and infrastructure ; learned to use Molotov cocktails effectively,(tanks had gasoline engines) Also satchel charges proved a new innovation. Imo,they were on some ancient genetic Viking poo Finnish tank buster forces endured a fatality rate of 70%, yet had no shortage of volunteers.Molotov cocktails were eventually mass-produced by the Finnish state corporation Alko, bundled with attached matches to light them. Production totalled 540,000 during the Winter War, produced by a work force of 87 women and 5 men. The original design was a mixture of ethanol, tar and gasoline in a 750 ml bottle that had two long pyrotechnic storm matches attached to either side. Before use, one or both of the matches was lit; when the bottle broke on impact, the mixture ignited. The storm matches were found to be quite a bit safer to use than a burning rag on the mouth of the bottle. http://ar.to/2010/08/red-blood-white-snow Thousands froze. The deep cold at Suomussalmi that winter was so intense that almost any wound was fatal, and the instant a man was hit by a bullet and his circulation slowed, his body would freeze in the very posture that he was standing in when he was hit. What is left unsaid is that it was a practice exercise for an invasion of W Europe. Europe owes the Finns a big thanks!

Russia has fired back at boastful comments made by the U.K.'s defense secretary regarding his country's new aircraft carrier, which a Moscow general said would fail to stand up to Russia's military might. The Russian Defense Ministry issued a statement Thursday in response to U.K. Defense Secretary Michael Fallon's suggestion that Moscow would be envious of the newly deployed aircraft carrier, the HMS Queen Elizabeth. As the massive warship embarked on its maiden voyage Monday, Fallon joked about Russia's sole aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, which first hit the water in 1991, calling it "old" and "dilapidated." Countering Fallon's Monday remarks and prior gibes at Russia's warship, a Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson, Major General Igor Konashenkov, said Thursday that the U.K.'s aircraft carrier was all looks and little substance."These rapturous statements...about the supremacy of the new aircraft carrier's beautiful exterior over the Russian aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov expose Fallon's utter ignorance of naval military science," Konashenkov said, according to a translation provided by Reuters. "Like a bee, the British aircraft carrier is only capable of independently releasing planes from its belly closely flanked by a swarm of warships, support ships and submarines to protect it. That is why...the British aircraft carrier is merely a large, convenient naval target," he added. WORLD RUSSIA'S MILITARY SAYS THE U.K.'S NEW WARSHIP IS 'A LARGE, CONVENIENT NAVAL TARGET' BY TOM O'CONNOR ON 6/29/17 AT 1:43 PM HMS Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier Leaves Port For First Time WORLDRUSSIAN MILITARYADMIRAL KUZNETSOVBRITISH MILITARYNATOSYRIAN WARMICHAEL FALLON Russia has fired back at boastful comments made by the U.K.'s defense secretary regarding his country's new aircraft carrier, which a Moscow general said would fail to stand up to Russia's military might. Daily Emails and Alerts - Get the best of Newsweek delivered to your inbox Related: Russia says "Ship of Shame" has 20 more years at sea, despite U.K. government taunt "These rapturous statements...about the supremacy of the new aircraft carrier's beautiful exterior over the Russian aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov expose Fallon's utter ignorance of naval military science," Konashenkov said, according to a translation provided by Reuters. "Like a bee, the British aircraft carrier is only capable of independently releasing planes from its belly closely flanked by a swarm of warships, support ships and submarines to protect it. That is why...the British aircraft carrier is merely a large, convenient naval target," he added. British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth is pulled from its berth by tugs before its maiden voyage, in Rosyth, Scotland, on June 26. After U.K. Defense Secretary Michael Fallon suggested Russia may be jealous of the new aircraft carrier, Russia's Defense Ministry dismissed the hype surrounding the warship, calling it "a large, convenient naval target."RUSSELL CHEYNE/REUTERS Konashenkov added that it would be wise for the U.K. not to show off its new ship's "beauty" any more than a few hundred miles from its "distant relative" in Russia. The U.K. is a major backer of NATO, the U.S.-led military alliance that has increasingly refocused from being a regional defense pact to a "warfighting command" against what it considers to be Russian military aggression in Europe. In addition to criticizing Russia's military moves in Europe, U.K. officials have accused Moscow of sponsoring cyberattacks worldwide, including one that struck dozens of email accounts belonging to members of Parliament Saturday, The Guardian reported. Moscow accuses the U.S. and its allies of instigating war in Europe and dismisses allegations that it conducts electronic warfare against foreign governments. Russia also stands behind the aging Admiral Kuznetsov, which Fallon last year gave the moniker "the Ship of Shame." Russia's Defense Ministry said Wednesday the Admiral Kuznetsov was good for another two decades of service. We have an idea about the extent of the work, and our enterprises are ready for it," Igor Ponomarev, the vice president of Russia’s state-run United Shipbuilding Corp., said during the International Defense Maritime Show in St. Petersburg, according to state-run news outlet RIA Novosti. "After the renovation, the cruiser will be able to serve no fewer than another 20 years." The Admiral Kuznetsov, which Russia reportedly plans to modernize in the near future, spent months supporting Russia's campaign against the Islamic State militant group (ISIS) and other various insurgent groups trying to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, before being pulled out in January. It hosted Libyan military leader Khalifa Haftar, head of the country's Tobruk-based eastern government, later that month and then passed through the English Channel accompanied by a U.K. military escort before ultimately returning to the northern Russian port of Severomorsk. |

bidexiii: few pilots who eject return to fly fighter aircraft's again. the heavy G force encountered during the ejection causes internal damage (spine is mostly vulnerable) making them unfit for fighter pilot duties. such pilots r generally tasked to fly transports planes. ejection is generally safe but depending on the state of the aircraft during ejection it will cause unavoidable injuries as G forces r additive . |

gabng: that fellow spent most of his career undercover embedded with enemies. one example i will give there was a terrorist organization in north east India which had suddenly become too powerful . the above fellow within a few months mastered the language and behavioral features of that region/group. he then went in and presented himself as a recruit to the organization , he was tasked to disrupt Indian army operations-in the region which he did successfully. over a period of couple of years , he rose in ranks and became one of the top commanders of the terrorist organization. he was so successful that he became one the high priority target for the Indian army. (even military intelligence was fooled ) infact Indian army mounted several unsuccessful operations to nab/kill him. when the above person had gained enough support within the organization , he then successful created mistrust and hatred within the organization thereby leading to serious and bloody infighting . as a result most of the top commanders were killed and the remaining cadres became disillusioned and most of them surrendered. in short one single person had single handedly destroyed a powerful terror organization from within via infiltration. 5 Likes |

nemesis2u: Chopper crashes are worst! Since they can only auto rotate using airflow to turn the main rotor and reduce sink rate-without enough forward airspeed to get effective auto rotation you sink like a stone putting traumatic stress on your spine on impact. I saw a ex KAF guy who couldn't get a good auto rotation after engine trouble at 200." He wasn't crippled but walked with a strange gait. A long flat stride with a oddly forward stoop from his belly. 2 lumbar vertebrae fused, though he walked away and the Puma was rebuilt. 1 Like |
