I know this is very off-topic but I'll try to explain a few things.

Post 94 there was a Defence Review document which suggested what the SANDF should acquire to function during peace time. They included

- 5 frigates
- 4 Submarines
- 48 light fighters (F16 or Gripen class)
- 4 Submarines
- 60 light helicopters
- 6 navy helicopters
- 100+ MBTs

1 frigate was cancelled in favour of a helicopter carrier. MBTs cancelled, light helicopters reduced to 30, 4 Submarines reduced to 3 and so on..

Initially we had the money, in fact we still do... However, the Arms Deal left a nasty after taste on the general public who's post 94 utopia dreams were not being full filed.

See, South Africa can run the best military in Africa because our tax collection system collects more tax than any other African country. However, we have huge social inequalities that are being addressed by the state. They range from education to infrastructure.... When someone who lives in Soweto asks why he's not having the same infrastructure as someone who lives just 10kms away, it becomes big problem that can destabilise the state.

The military is the least of the current concerns, education, health and infrastructure takes the stage. Education gets 4 times the military budget , if money was promotionally allocated then the military budget would be twice the current status and yes we would be fielding the largest military after Egypt.

As for the Congo, we can't invade another country to anex it. It doesn't work like that.... Every country retains it's right to independence and self determination.

I read the shopping list recently on the Defence Review 1995,IIRC. That should be your minimum peace time strength. I'm aware of the demands for increased social spending but as you say you have the money;WHO,THEN REALLY CONTROLS YOUR PURSE STRINGS?. Imo,they're the same keeping your geopolitical horizons strictly limited.
I never said annex the DRC-hellz no! Controlling the East ,meaning dismantling all those two bit Tutsi proxies in return for peace for a stipulated period,10 or 20 years in return you get the minerals. You do know known mineral reserves are at least 24 trn $ and 6 mn Congolese have died since 96:the Congolese will do ANYTHING for peace.
Is that impossible? Like I said another country already has specops as far as Kisangani angling for a entry strategy with important local actors.

When you meet who face-to-face? You think this is the 19th century spear wars?

In a military clash against South Africa you would be flattened by Gripens, Hawks and Rooivalks before the mechanized and motorised rolls over whatever is left of you.

This is the 21st century, get on with the times.

If there is no more face to face in 21st century war, why do your soldiers carry rifles in South African army? You shoot rifle at enemy you dont see with your eyes?

Nigerian air force can use guiding missiles from air drones, war helicopters, and jf-17 thunder jets from many miles away where the enemy cannot see NAF aeroplanes. Those jf-17 are coming with invisible distance guiding missiles that do not exist in any black African country, whatever flies in South Africa will fall under gravity and you wont even see the jf-17 far off shooting. The budget 2017, draft 2018 covers all that with proposal for 2019-2020 AESAA radar being tested, it is said that it blinds its opponents.

Air Marshal Abubakar insists anything NAF buys now will be complete package of sophistication available in the country of origin. We paid for 3 jets on 2016-17 budgets, our demand for state-of-the art technology that are now being tested is causing slow down to delivery. The 2020 medium term plan document dictates NAF must have superior air power above any country in Africa except the Mediterranean nations. No nation in the black world will be able to survive against NAF 2020.

Blah blah blah, by then South Africa will be having Rafales.... We can buy any export weapon system in the world without begging the US Congress.

As for you dream on, you're still to be in the Sudan league before you get to Uganda and Angola.

And if Nigeria had found Rooivalk to be superior, would you even have one by now? Just one. Setting up production line, re-tooling, etc those things would still be happening. Nigeria never came to SA for any immediate helicopter needs. Its was never MI-35 vs Rooivalk. You know this. But oh well...carry on

The Nigerian delegation found the helicopter to be very inferior. If the Nigerian Air Force thought differently, we would have gotten a statement indicating interests.

It's the stark truth, you don't like it doesn't make it false.

Link please? You didn't order the Rooivalk because you needed something that was already available because you had somehow not build up the capacity while you had time.

We have the Rooivalk, 26 Gripens, Submarines and Valour frigates in peace times.

Who is "we would have gotten"? Nairaland? Kindly post all equipment that Nigeria is interested in purchasing here for us to see. And while you are at it, also please kindly post NAF internal report regarding the suitability and assessment of Rooivalk.

I post them here daily. Then, what you want to agree with or disagree with is inconsequential and of no meaning.

However the fact is Nigeria and Poland both evaluated the Rooivalk recently, Nigeria rejected it. Poland would also do same.

My mistake was that I assumed you were basing NAF view on Rooivalk off an official statement, even a leaked report on its suitability. So in essence you have become their spokesperson. But no worries. Let's go back to posting pics.

I'll respond no further to any arguments on this subject. The Nigerian position is clear, we found the Rooivalk to be sub-standard, inadequate and as such flatly rejected it.

sudanese local “ Burkanprecision-guided bomb (PGB) from Sudan’s SAFAT Aviation Group

Sudan’s SAFAT Aviation Group recently showcased its “Burkan” precision-guided bomb (PGB) at the 2016 Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) exhibition.

Speaking to IHS Jane’s, SAFAT’s representatives stated that the Burkan is a 250kg satellite-guided PGB with a maximum range of 80km when launched from an altitude of 10,000 metres . The Burkan is guided by GPS (which is interested as one would have expected Sudan to opt for Russia’s GLONAS).

The SAFAT Burkan is apparently in use by the Sudanese Air Force.
