Hello mamas. kiss

For those battling with cold right now, this is what work for me....

Close all windows, no Ac, no fan, let the house be as warm as possible. Bath baby with warm water, massage mentholatum on baby's chest, nose, neck, back, and rib sides. Let baby be completely covered (i.e cap, socks sweater) so that their body can absorb the menthol. You can back them immediately after bath. And please bath every other day (2days) but always apply menthol.

You can also do steam inhalation but my baby hates this. He will be screaming as if the steam will kill him

Iomoge2 recipe (melted shea butter and salt) gives instant relief when the cough starts.

Finally be patient, you might cry a little grin but don't worry it's just the weather, cold is everywhere, except it is associated with high temperature consult your doctor. ds only coughs in the morning and it was very bad, he will be crying while coughing. We are free now sha.

We will be 8months in 3days wink

I've been closing windows but the stuffy nose and catarrh around early morning still persist. So I tried applying the mentholatum and eucalyptus oil and it was a bit better today. Maybe I would add the cap and bath him on alternate days just like you advised. My baby also hates the steam thing, but he no get choice, once he starts to scream, i will free him a little and then put him back again for few minutes and we are done.

Good morning mamas.please come to our aid o. my SIL's 6weeks baby is giving her concern .According to her , the baby breathes well but when he is about sucking/crying, his ring tone(cryin)usually change.she said it's sounds like an advanced hiccups (like his neck and chest suck with each breath) and also, she said he usually sound like a child with cold(like he has mucus to spit out of his throat but there is no mucus in his nostrils). she.took him to hospital and she was told it's a floppy larynx (larygomalacia; I hope I got the spelling like). We all have Googled but Mr Google isn't helping matters that is why I told her I have a forum where in I can ask.please mamas, is there any local treatment for that? PS: According to her, the only thing he displays that has the symptoms of larygomalacia is the sounds he makes when he wanna eat or is playing .Sorry for the long epistle mamAz

May be you need to go gansta on them.....

if it is possible, try droping them off at grandma's for the weekend to see how they cope. This will tell you if they are just being unco-operative since it is you. you can then extend it to a whole week at a later date.

And when you pick them up, just continue with whatever routine they have had there.

You've hit the nail on the head.
I started solids for my son at 4 months (gave him Tom Brown) he took it well. But when he clocked 5 months he rejected the Tom Brown and formula! He only wanted breastmilk alone. I tried and tried and I got tired of wasting food. So I decided to let him be. As he clocked 6 months I decided to try again and it was same story till dh told me to buy cerelac (I never waned to feed him all this packaged food but I didn't have a choice) I bought the cerelac and dh fed him. My son was opening his mouth for spoon! It was unbelievable. When it fifinishedhe cried (we made very small to test and see if he will eat)
Fast forward to the next day, I decided to try. My son was reluctantly collecting from me. As soon as dh left for work, the boy close mouth o! He refused to collect again and started dragging my clothes to suck breast. Lol
Bottom line, he will take food from anyone but me cheesy

I know its not the same situation as mama olubankemi but going gangsta on them might help her
Sorry for the long epistle

What has worked for me so far is closed windows like the other mama said. Then I rub Mentholatum on his chest, feet, back, and sides. I wear him a short sleeved bodysuit, then a long-sleeved bodysuit or shirt or I wear a long-sleeved bodysuit and a short sleeved shirt or I wear him a body suit and sweater(you can create your own combo) then cap, and thick Trousers and thick socks. Then I mix small Shea butter with Mentholatum and rub on his nose from the bridge to the top of his nostrils(don't put Mentholatum inside his nose please. Only at the top) I use the saline drops at night when he's sleeping. Then I make sure he sleeps with a sweater on!
Right now the cough is gone and so is the cold

Mamas good morning oh, I don't understand my baby's creche anymore and I'm thinking of changing it. Normally I pack his food like this: 90mls of formula already prepared and kept in the warmer, 150mls expressed breast milk in a cooler bag (usually still partly frozen), then 3 portions of formula for 180ml feeds. Usually I breastfeed him well from 5:30, leave home by 6 and drop him around 6:15, he's half asleep or sleeping by then...he usually takes the formula when he wakes up around 7:30. Then 1 of the 180 ml formula around 9/10, then breastmilk around 12/1, the remaining formula around 3/4 and then 6-ish. The last formula is an extra in case I'm late cos I typically pick him up around 5:30

In the first few weeks when I pick him, the woman will say he finished all the food, including the last formula. She rinses his bottles. I told her to not bother with rinsing but she still does it. I have never picked him after 6pm before so there was no logical reason for him to finish the last food. Anytime he stays home with my mum or when I'm home, we maintain the same schedule and he doesn't drink that last bottle. Only when he goes to creche. I decided not to fuss because apart from that he is fine and seems well taken care of

Fast forward to today, While I was measuring the formula, the tin I had finished and I didn't have another at home. So I was only able to prep the 90mls, breastmilk and one 180ml bottle. Ideally this should take him till noon. So I asked Mumsi to pls help buy formula when shops open and take it to the creche. Next thing headteacher calls me at 8:30 to say there's no food for my boy and he will soon be hungry. I was confused so I told mumsi to go there. On getting there they claimed he had finished 90mls of formula, 150mls of breastmilk and almost finished 180mls of formula between 6:15 and 9am (she saw the rinsed bottles). 3 hours for God's sake...how? She sha dropped the formula and left

Now I'm confused, my baby simply does not eat like that. Are they discarding the food? Is she force feeding him? Do I change his creche? Should I just ignore it since he's fine and growing well? Which kain thing be this?

Ahn Ahn!
Are you sure they are not giving his food to another baby?
Because if he doesn't eat like that at home, then it's mind boggling how he can finish that much food in 3 hours!
Considering a bottle should take him at least 2 or max 3hours before he gets hungry again

Hmmm, I wish I have someone around to keep them with, no one! Hubby's parent are late and my parent don't stay in lagos where I reside.

Am waiting for September make dem start going out to school. Maybe by then they will stop. But can I endure till them?

Thanks for your response.

Doesn't make sense. Either they are packing, storing and selling the cereals or use it to nurse another baby, their own baby.

Weekend is not far, use same measurement and monitor your baby. If it doesn't tally then maybe it's time to change creche cos if they can boldly do "magic" with his food, they can starve him as well.

Sorry for the long epistle

infact when my MIL sees the gangsta mama moves i do with my dd, she says she didn't think i would have been so strict as per first baby and things.

But when it is only me and my guardian angel, plus all the house chores, plus work.... i cannot come and die biko.

we did sharp sharp weaning at 10 month.. when dd was already using my n.pple to do chewing gum at 2 months! by the time teeth came in at 6 months it turned to practice run for shaki / ponmo chewing and she got 2 teeth every month from 6 months , so by 10 months we already had 10 teeth..... shocked

Although i had initially wanted to Breastfeed till 12 month looking back now i am soooooooooooooooooooo glad i weaned early! besides who Breastfeeding for that long hep?!

my MIL sef was like i tried, her own was "you have done 6 months abeg pack your br.east and get formular!" Supergangsta-Grandma...lol

Well kids are funny. My first son did something similar. At home he would refuse to eat and eat small quantities, once he was with strangers, he'll eat so much that people always commend him. If the baby looks healthy, try and spring up routine suprises. Getting a good creche is difficult.

Nasal congestion is normal in babies less than 3 months. In Canada, when you give birth nasal sprays are given in your take-home kit. If you prefer, you could place few drops of eucalyptus oil around the area your LO is sleeping and on his clothes, it decongests the nose too. You could buy Vitamin C drops and give too.

@ Suzy: be patient, it is not easy to be a mom of a picky eater. I have 2 picky eaters, but i'll suggest you keep trying till you get what your LO enjoys. First deworm him/her, then try Farley's Heinz premium rice cereal. Start with little quantities and see, a lot of picky eaters like it. its about 1200- 1900, depends on where you live.

I know its not the same situation as mama olubankemi but going gangsta on them might help her
Sorry for the long epistle

persistence is key. Continue giving formular. It is a battle of wills. Dont sucuumb to baby's love for breast. I learned the hard way, when I went rogue,my LO knew that I meant biz.

Thing is, he doesn't eat small quantities at home, he eats very well. But over 400mls in 3 hours is impossible for even Mrs mighty igor's baby

May the lord heal your SIL baby oh!!!. I have no idea of this but as alphahandmaiden has advised, follow doctor advised dilligently. It is well with our LOs
It may just be that the mucus that clogs the nostrils of newborns has not drained fully. This stuff happened with my 2nd LO and I was told that it will drain with time. It was worrisome cos it was hard to watch my LO look like he couldnt breath while suckling. It went away on its own. Be patient. Kids are different .If there is no other distress baby will be fine
