In the weeks ahead i suppose.

However, this is something we are all aware the US is capable of doing.

How is India going to react to China's new Destroyer?

Nemesis2u, could you give us your thoughts on this. This is the role it would be performing.

"The infantry patrol vehicle (ipv) with off-road mobility and a crew of three was one of the star attractions at the summit. Weighing 650kg and powered by 150-200 Horse Power Engine, the ipv has a 130 kilometre per hour capacity.
It provides force multiplier and the required flexibility to undertake all tasks across the military operations including range fighting, fast action mission, urban and border patrols.
The ipv is fitted with two machine guns and have been deployed in all the theatres of operation."

Nemesis2u, you didn't respond to this.

Could you critique it. Let's hear your views, advantages, disadvantages. That sort of thing.

How is India going to react to China's new Destroyer?

indian shitty media reaction "everybody run ! the sky is falling" grin

indian shitty intellectual liberal communist feminist evangelist aholes "there is a reason why god has given us 3 holes " grin

indian stupid public reaction "when is the release of next shitty(bolly)wood movie" grin

indian housewife's reaction "more power to us ! the destroyer help us to destroy our already destroyed husbands" grin

indian husbands reaction "hehe let the destroyer come , we will sneak aboard and escape to china , Chinese ladies here we come !" grin

indian girls reaction "if u love me dear go bring me the destroyer" grin

indian boys reaction "my dear i will bring the stars for u , getting that chinese destroyer is childs play for me" grin

indian ahole politicians "will this destroyer help us to win the next elections " grin

etc
etc

my reaction "the dog wags the tail " wink and definitely "the tail does not wag the dog " grin grin grin

in short one must not be a reactionary to a specific event/events rather he should concentrate on his own on going efforts and simply update the threat assessment for any future implementation.

according to the guru of statecraft Chanakya, never let the enemy/enemy actions dictate u

note :it is difficult to access official stand , but based on future threat perceptions some years ago work was started on 4 types of new anti ship weapons

1. pralay a hypersonic anti shipping missile based on shaurya ballistic cum cruise missile

2. submarine launched cruise missile

3. a subsonic cruise missile with terminal supersonic stage

4. a missile launched torpedo delivery system

Nemesis2u, you didn't respond to this.

i got distracted by ur tire question,

i will not critique it ,but i will simply state what i would done with the vehicle.

1. the gunners seat is fixed ,but i would have surely introduced a height adjustable seat .

2. the HMG is mounted on a fixed pivot ,limiting firing arc to 45 degree on either side unless the gunner likes dangling out of the vehicle grin . i would use a dual pivot L shaped mount which will increase firing arc to atleast 90 degree on either side . this will be useful during convoy escort runs where engaging target on the flanks will be easier without the need to break away from the convoy formation . (this is very significant to defeat ambush on convoys)

3. i would go for a lighter and smaller and aerodynamic shield . the vehicle USP is mobility, if it gets bogged down in a fight ,then survival chances of crew diminishes anyhow. the vehicle will be more effective and offer its crew better survival if it is mobile , like

1.hit on the move
2.hit and run
3.run

so the large and heavy shield is better replaced by lighter and smaller and aerodynamic shield preferably made of kevlar ,its role is more psychological than protection becz if bullets manages to hit the bigger shield ,chances r the follow on bullets will hit the unprotected driver / passenger thereby disabling the whole vehicle . in short mobility is the best protection for vehicles of this type .

4. i will get a simple open ended wide field of view magnifying viewer with illuminating reticle fixed on the HMG. it will cost less than 100 dollars.

5. i will get 3 additional variants

1. a dedicated communication support / communication relay variant

2. a dedicated observation and recon variant

3. a dedicated heavy fire variant equipped with automatic grenade launcher and shoulder fired low cost LAW

6. i will make increment changes to the body/features of the vehicle after periodic user operational use/feedback ie upgrades

7. i would have used kevlar or composites for the body to increase protection of the vehicle and decrease its weight.

8. i would have used CFD study to enhance the aerodynamic profile/design of the vehicle plus it will surely add to increase the aesthetics which u guys r so fond of grin

9. i would have raised the level of the driver and passenger seats and the floor boards to the level of the outer bins inorder to allow ingress and importantly egress more quickly during emergency.

10. i would have introduced seat belt for the gunner, if the vehicle turns turtle the guy will turn into a sandwich grin

11. i would have liked to have included smoke grenade launchers , a very handy tool to mask escape or to cover up friendlies

12. i would have gone for smaller front tires and larger rear tires with necessary changes to the suspension drive train etc , this combination allows better handling , better acceleration etc etc in my opinion.

etc
etc

NOTE : i have not critique the vehicle what i have done is simply mentioned what i would have done

the USP of the LCA is the digital fly-by-wire (FBW) system, developed from scratch by ADA scientists in India after their work, notes, and equipment was impounded by Lockheed Martin in 1998.

No country on earth, none, has developed such a complex system and gotten it to work perfectly on the first try.

How well does it work, you ask? grin

Well, the system was first tested on an F-16XL in the US (this was before the nuclear tests). Much to the amusement of everyone involved, the software actually improved the handling qualities of the F-16XL in several flight regimes! grin grin grin

according to test pilots LCA is one of the easiest and friendliest aircraft to fly.

Nothing really significant to worry about then.

My question was more looking at the entire force structure to counter Chinese ever expanding navy.

However apart from the jargon i removed from your post, the 4 highlighted points answers my question.

Thanks.

I agree completely with all you have listed. I cannot argue with it.

However, the Nigerian industry is very new, so some of the materials you suggested might not be feasible at this point.

It is expected that with continued user trials, we would see better.

On the gunners HMGs, some of the newer vehicles I've seen also have this problem.

In all, with additional investment we will hope to see better. I consider this a very good first start though.

Isn't that a marketing gimmick?

SAAB say the same thing about the Gripen, but we see the South-Africans struggling to raise sufficient pilots to fly the supposed easiest fighter to fly.

no becz IAF is the only airforce in the world which has never supported its home grown solutions,

its nick name is Imported Air Force angry angry angry grin angry angry angry

IAF is the biggest critique of LCA so any praise from it is worth the salt with regard to LCA

plus 2 foreign chief of air force have flown the LCA , i dont think anybody will fly a aircraft with pending FOC if it was not easy and safe to handle

and as far as marketing is concerned ,it is the last thing on the mind of LCA program managers as of date.

u really confuse things grin grin grin

south africans r struggling becz of budget constraints , nothing to do with gripen ease of capability to fly grin

if u lose a fighter no problem if u loose a pilot then big problem ,one big reason is huge cost other than time , experience and obviously life

training a fighter pilot is is very expensive becz

1. fuel costs
2. reduction in airframe life of aircraft
3. maintenance costs after every flight
4. engine overhaul costs
5. cost of overall maintenance
6. spare and LRU replacement costs
7. weapon costs
8. cost of aircraft support crew
9. cost of exercises and test range facilities
10.cost utilization of 3/4 types of aircraft's during training process and add the above costs again for each type of the 3/4 aircrafts for atleast 200 hr per year for 4-8 years per pilot. grin grin grin grin

etc
etc

indian pilots clock around 300 flight hrs per year ,US/nato countries 200-300 hr , russians less than 200 hr on an average.

so do u get the idea how costly it is to train a top gun and why air force around the world struggle ? grin grin grin

India has around 1000-3000 fighter pilots , exact number is classified,i have left out the navy pilots

and still it struggles to train the required number of pilots becz it is very costly both in money and aircrafts and other resources .

note: to the above add another factor ie Indian stupidity angry ( not applicable in other countries ) grin grin grin

lol

Indian and Russian negotiators r having a tough time arguing over Indian proposal to integrate Meteor BVRAAM with Super SU30MKI.

the Russians want to equip it with their still under development BVRAAM.

projected overall cost of Russian BVRAAM is higher than Meteor BVRAAM becz India will have to fund the Russian missiles development which they dont want to do.

hehehe NATO missiles on Russian aircrafts grin grin grin

GBU-12 Paveway II laser-guided bomb and i though u meant AAM/ASM

it is simply dropped from a modified weapon pylon ( which is made compatible to su30 attachment points and release circuit ) and is guided to its target by ground troops using lasing systems or via the Damocles Laser Designation Pod. it does not involve any other modification other than which i have mentioned above.

this is totally different from the complex task of integrating BVRAAMs with the radar and related weapon management system of a aircraft which involves extensive coding and system modification as well as access to source code / object code as applicable. OEM involvement is mandatory here.

during kargil war mirage 2000 was modified within 2 weeks to drop LGBs .
