Bangladesh got 2 subs for 300 million dollars, last one was delivered recently

@Covert1

what! Indian military is not secretive ,

u got to CAG ( comptroller auditor general ) and MOD website ,u will find almost all info, except for those relating to intelligence , strategic assets and classified designated matters.

under RTI (right to information ) act , a citizen can ask the military for info , however the military has the right to refuse and has to provide a viable reason for the refusal. however it can be challenged in court and the court will have the final say in the matter.

only Indian intelligence (civilian) apparatus is secretive and not answerable to anyone except the prime minster

@others

i dont know if u guys know the reason why Nigerian military is secretive

let me put forward my unsolicited personal opinion grin

Nigeria was under military rule for some years, then Nigerian military was answerable to none and as such military matters was kept out of the purview of the public scrutiny by designating all military matter as classified.

habits r hard to break in any military, so this was being continued as a force of habit but my observation is that with time ie under civilian government rule the Nigerian military has opened up considerably and in future it will be more open, obliviously with the necessary safeguard limits .

note : this is my personal opinion and can be wrong too.

This is not necessary...Henry clearly says he prefers the funds for submarine goes for other assets'

His Comments:

We keep buying more and more OPVs, this obsession won't stop. We already have 5, why get any more?

I'll probably hold on, on the Submarines, invest in other areas first. At the minimum we should have 1 Frigate, 2 Corvettes and 4 missile boats.

I don't get the dick measuring contest here.

The way Oga Henry just ignored that post.

I don't see Nigeria's defence budget being anymore open than it is now and yet still opaque.

A Kenyan Al-Shabaab operative was over the past week killed by Shabaab after reportedly he fell out with his commanders of the terror group. The terror operative Mustafa Hassan Mohamed, a former student at Isiolo Boys High School, complained the manner the operations were being undertaken in Garissa and Mandera. Mustafa faulted his seniors saying they were to blame for the deaths of Muslims and children killed in explosions that rocked Mandera and Garissa in the recent past weeks. Mustafa is reportedly to have dropped out of school in 2015 to join Al-Shabaab in Somalia. Previously Al-Shabaab has killed other Kenyans within its ranks, accusing them of spying for KDF and Kenyan Government Security Agencies. Others Kenyan Al-Shabaab operatives killed include; 1.Noordin Gulam Fazilai aka Dinero 2.Ibrahim Adan Abdi 3.Mohammed Issa 4.Adan Ismail Khalid According to security agencies reports, at least six Kenyan youths who had joined Al-Shabaab in Somalia have been killed under the watch of a Kenyan Al-Shabaab commander known as Ahmed Iman Ali, a former student of Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

i did not answer i simply gave a unsolicited opinion grin

it will take some time and yes Nigerian military budget will become more transparent since all this is a work in progress.

lol nobody knows the exact figure not even the prime minister who is the sole authority to give the command to launch.

official Indian sources dont say anything

let me give a small info India conducted first nuclear tests in 1974 and i have reasons to believe that she already had <100 nuclear devices made before she conducted the 2nd nuclear tests in 1998.

after 1998 how many she made i don't know but western sources gives figures of around 110-120 devices calculated based on india's stocks of weapons grade plutonium.

however they seem to ignore the fact that India is the 2nd country after US to have tested a nuclear device using reactor grade plutonium (indians r actually happy that it is being ignored grin ).

reactor grade plutonium based weapons r very hard to make since the chances of producing a fission reaction is very hard unless the effects of impurities r cancelled out by another unknown material, unconventional pit design is adopted etc etc.

India has enough stocks of reactor grade plutonium to manufacture 2000+ nuclear weapons if she desires.

plus india has commissioned a large facility for uranium production for her nuclear submarines which can be diverted to her existing stockpiles of enriched uranium destined for thermonuclear (hydrogen) bombs.

India has covert access to France megajoule facility to test her new designs based on vintage 1998 designs and also she has her own locally developed stimulation programs running on her locally build purpose designed supercomputers .

so do the maths and come up with ur own figure grin

nuclear weapons r a fools weapon, nobody will survive it , so it is better every nuclear nation gives it up, but will they ? since MAO rightly said power flows from the barrel of a gun . grin

I disagree with you. Military spending can be increased, all Nigerian armed services can point to a threat. Air Force and Army would say Boko-Haram, Navy would claim oil theft.

Even we look at the things the Nigerian navy chief has mentioned, you can see that they are already been acquired.

He mentioned 1 Helicopter, we all know the Nigerian navy is receiving 3 Airbus helicopters. We have seen pictures.

He mentioned LPD, we know the Nigerian navy would soon order an SSV from Indonesia. I shared an Indonesian link.

He talked about a Landing Ship Tank, we all know the Nigerian navy signed an agreement with the Indians to locally build an LST in Nigeria.

He mentioned a Seaward Defence Boat, we all know we build those in Nigeria. A 40 meters SDB was launched last year, a larger 50 meters SDB is currently under construction at the Nigerian naval dockyard.

What else is left in the list, just a Frigate,an OPV and a sub. So you tell me, where are we?
Long Endurance OPV 120M + LPD 350M + LST 90M = 560 M dollars .... Juan Carlos Helicopter carrier = 600 M dollars ... I will prefere the scenario two 3 in one

NAF PARTNERS UNIMAID TO PRODUCE ALPHA JET AIRCRAFT ANTI-SKID TEST BENCH, SIGNS MoU ON RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today, in a brief ceremony at its Headquarters in Abuja, unveiled an Alpha Jet aircraft anti-skid test bench, which it had locally produced, in collaboration with the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID). The anti-skid braking system of the Alpha Jet aircraft is a critical system, which helps in slowing down the speed of the aircraft and maintaining its balance even on wet runways. The newly produced test bench helps to simulate the performance of the principal components of the anti-skid system thereby guiding maintenance. The NAF and UNIMAID also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) towards consolidating on the research and development efforts between the two organizations.

Speaking at the event, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, disclosed that with the signing of the MoU, UNIMAID has joined other Nigerian universities, polytechnics and research agencies, with which the NAF has existing MoUs. Air Marshal Abubakar remarked that the story of insurgency in the North East would not be complete without mentioning the contributions of UNIMAID, and indeed the other NAF partnering institutions, whose collaborative efforts with the NAF in the area of Research and Development have proved critical.

The Vice Chancellor of UNIMAID, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, used the opportunity to commend the CAS for his passion, vision and zeal to develop a self-reliant Air Force. He also expressed his deep appreciation to the NAF, noting that UNIMAID would have been overrun by insurgents if not for the timely intervention and protection of the NAF. He added that the reason behind the MoU was to ensure that the collaboration between the NAF and the University was sustained.

The NAF Chief of Standards and Evaluation, Air Vice Marshal Kingsley Lar, used the occasion to present the recently issued NAF patent certificate for Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) to the CAS. He remarked that the NAF was fortunate to have a man at the helm of affairs with a keen interest in “promoting partnerships geared towards innovations for self-reliance”. Coming barely 2 months after the NAF won the National Technology and Innovation Award at the Technology and Innovation Expo 2017, the unveiling of the test bench is yet another milestone in the series of innovations under the current NAF leadership. It would also be recalled that the patency for the UGV is the second one from NOTAP since the inception of the current NAF administration.

As per " common with some bombs & bicycle", I'd assume you mean a lock key just like on bicycles needed to get a nuclear weapon armed as in the case of earlier British atomic bombs which required no sophisticated code. Or?

Quite some material there grin, well I meant the India secrecy question as u already mentioned it's strategic assets are classified etc.

Regarding your "unsolicited opinion" on Nigeria's defence budget becoming transparent I do not concur. Nigeria's defence budget will remain opaque as a matter of national survival. It will have an appearance of transparency but not transparent. Nigeria does more covertly than overtly. It may surprise you, does Nigeria export lethal light arms to friendly nations?

About nuclear reactors and fissile materials for Hydrogen Bombs and India being the second country outside the US to have reactor grade plutonium material for nuclear weapons, India developed that technology and capacity after taking advantage of technology given it originally by Canada. That model is US based. The US of course only accepted India as a Nuke State after a period of detente.

I'd estimate India possibly has as many as 150 nuclear warheads. I think the Indian PM should know how many exactly. And it can like the US continue to build on reactor grade material from same source without having to redesign or build a completely new program unlike the Russians which experts question have newer and more deadly nuclear weapons capability.

Fact be told these guys continue to upgrade to even more deadlier ICBM payload and delivery. The Russian RS-24 ICBM can re-enter the earth's atmosphere at hypersonic speed with purportedly 10 independent nuclear warheads unlike the US Minuteman 111 with a single warhead but also deadly with hypersonic re-entry. the US does have the Triad option. Which is why their policy around it is Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD).

As you've said "it's a fools thing" but if "you don't want war you prepare for war".

The Chinese President Xi has said —"A war-mongering state will eventually cease to exist..."

Being Hawk integrated means the SAAF can theoretically put 100 A Darters in the sky (48 on the Hawk + 52 on the Gripen) simultaneously.

Its an infrared missile, so it does use heat seeking. But has been specifically designed to overcome countermeasures. Seeker can "see" certain profiles/dimensions, so it knows the difference between an aircraft and decoys. Velocity of target is also cleverly added to the algorithms, so it knows the difference between a flare which immediately starts decelerating when deployed compared to the target. Clever stuff.

Anyway, it's your opinion. A maximum of 2 years should be enough for manufacturing .
