Dedicated to everyone.
I appreciate all the birthday wishes and textmessages and calls, as y'all have wished me all the best things in life, may your joy never run dry. Thanks all of you, and i love ya plenty plenty.

****
'daddy?' Kelly raised up her face in tears.

Diego couldnt hold himself. He rushed to the girl and buried her face on his chest while she sobbed loudly.

'what happened to mummy? Why's she this way? Why does she hate me this much? What have i done to deserve this maltreatment from her?' Kelly wept.

'shh baby girl. Dont cry anymore. Wipe your tears,' He raised her head so she could look at him 'calm down. I'm taking you back to your mum and grandmummy..your bioligical family. They'll take care of you and wont treat you badly. You should run away from Veronica before she doesnt something silly to harm you'

'daddy, are you saying i'll be leaving soon?'

'yes my princess' Diego nodded.

'are you sending me away?'

'no, my dear. Its not as....'

'are you tired of having me around?' She asked innocently.

'no my love, i'll never thing of doing that. I love you so much and you know that. Its not as if i'm tired of you or because i want to send you away, but your happiness is what really matters to me and nothing less. I want you happy and not shedding these tears. Your mother...your biological mother would love and accept you as her own, she'll care for you'

Kelly turned her back to him 'i dont want to go with that woman. She abandoned me when i was a kid'

'no thats not the truth Kels'

'thats what mum told me'

'your mum was only lying to you baby. Mia never abandoned you. She didnt know you were taken away. She thought you were dead because thats what everyone made her believe. She bore you at 13, almost your age now. Now imagine you having a child at this age dear...'

'that would ruin my reputation and stop my education'

'so you see? Her mother didnt want her reputation ruined and her education stopped so she thought giving you away was the best option. Sweetie, dont hate your mother, do not blame her. She loves you and she came all the way from Nigeria to pick you here. Isnt that enough sacrifice to show just how much she cares for you?'

'but daddy...' She faced her dad with more tears dropping 'i cant leave you. And i cant leave mum too, i love both of you so much. Even JD. No matter how badly mum treats me, i'm not leaving because i've grown very accustomed to you guys a whole lot' She sniffed.

'you just have to try. You dont deserve to suffer because of a woman that doesnt care about you anymore. I dont know whats wrong with Vero, but something terrible is happening to her right now and everyone's being affected one way or the other'

The door burst open and the young girl of 16 who normally came to their house twice every week for clean up rushed in panting.

Diego eyed her 'whats wrong with you and who gave you the right to barge in here?' He asked in German for the girl didnt understand English.

'i'm sorry sir. But i...i just saw your wife downstairs, lying unconcious on the floor' She said in German.

'what?!' Kelly and Diego chorused as they all rushed downstairs.

Immediately Diego found her on the floor, he checked her pulse, and her chest. She wasnt breathing. He went back upstairs and brought down his tools. By this time Kelly was wailing loudly and Junior who had been upstairs napping was down already.

By the time he was through checking her, he knew she was gone. She was dead!

His heart bled. What happened? How did she die?

'daddy take a look' Junior handed a white sheet of paper to him and he took it with shaky hands.

Diego,
I've lived with this pain for so many years. This grudge in my heart, you sleeping with other women in your quest or a child. I know i failed in giving you a child of your own but you treated me badly. Even going as far as having an affair with my old maid. I'm so ashamed.
I've been living with cancer for some months now. It wasnt detected on time and i know i have a very short time to live. I thought maltreating everyone would give me the peace i deserve....

Tears dropped from his eyes.

But i was wrong. It wasnt as if i hated Kelly and Junior, i love them so much. But i just couldnt live with the fact that i wont be able to have my own kids before i die. I because embittered and i did what i did.
I'm sorry. I realised a bit late that if i had shared everything with all of you, and if i'd been a little nice, y'all would have made my last days memorable and sweet for me to remember in the world beyond. By the time you must be reading this letter, i'm sure i would have gone far. Take care Diego, take care of the kids.
Marry again and have more kids of your own. As for Kelly, do what you think is best for her. But help me tell them i love them. And i love you. I love so much it hurts. Teardrop.
Goodbye Diego, till we meet to part no more.

And he screamed loudly. He had lost her.

Shiv stared at her phone worriedly. Her mother had not called for two days now and she was getting worried. What was happening over there?

And her sister, she wondered how she was faring. She hated herself for not caring all this while. She went to her contacts and tried her sister's number. It wasnt unreachable. She felt guilty. What kind of a sister was she if she didnt even know the whereabouts of her younger sister?

She bit her lips.

'kobo for your thoughts'

Shiv turned. Then she smiled. Dike approached her with a tray containing two glasses of juice. He sat opposite her and placed the tray on the table.
'whats happening?' He asked.

'nothing' She looked away.

'dont want to share? Because its obvious you have a lot on your mind. You've been staring at your phone for way too long'

'you've been watching?'

'sort of. Thinking of your mum? Or your family?'

She scratched her skull 'everything. My mum travelled to Germany few days ago to get Mia's daughter. But she hasnt called. And then it just occured to me that i never did call Mia. It just occured to me that i've been too absorbed in my problems to even make out time for her' She swallowed 'Choudhary called me yesterday'

He raised a brow 'remind me again, who's Choudhary?'

'my ex. The guy i was supposed to get married to before i met you. He's about getting married'

'so soon? How sure are you that he wasnt cheating on you in the course of your relationship?'

'i doubt. Choudhary loved me so much'

'and did you love him?'

'i did'

'you did? Means you no longer love him'

'i...' she opened her mouth to speak 'i love him...i dont know. I dont love him anymore, or maybe i do love him. I'm just confused Dike. Everything is just too large for me to handle. I just want to go, i just want to leave this place and go over to a place no one knows me. A place where i can easily start afresh. I'm sick and tired of everything thats going on with me. Am i the only one with problems?'

Dike chuckled then sipped from his juice.

She looked at him 'are you laughing at me? Whats funny?'

'no dear, there's nothing funny. But you're not the only one with problems. There are millions of people out there with tougher problems so dont even go there babe'

'so what are you saying? That my problems do not count?'

'its not as if it doesnt count. But what i want you to understand is that its not the end of the world. And i told you this on the very first day we met, you dont carry other people's problems on your head. You dont sacrifice your happiness for other's people's happiness because at the end of the day, all that matters is you and no one else'

'but i love my mother and my sister. They are my only family and they mean so much to me'

'but at the end of the day all that matters is you and should be you'

She looked down.

'you would have been happily married to that guy now you know. Choudhary or whatever you called him. And you would have been very happy and contented. You need happiness. Everyone needs happiness'

She searched his face 'what about you? Are you happy?'

He grinned 'you mean living with all of you?'

'yes'

'how will i be happy with seven wives that i do not care about? And who dont really care about me too? Everyone you see here is either after my money or something else, comfort and riches. No one really cares and love me for who i am'

'and how would you know that? Dora loves you'

He scoffed 'oh please dont be naive and too trusting. That girl is/was my favourite but i know deep down that she's only after a life of comfort. And she's having it. Driving all the cars she wants. Requesting for so much money that sometimes i wonder if she's even normal at all'

Shivani couldnt help but laugh.

'i heard you guys had a little showdown two days ago. Who won?'

'won what?'

'dont tell me you guys didnt exchange little blows? Cos that would be so disappointing'

She opened her mouth to speak when she sighted the Lolo coming. She stopped talking and Dike turned to look at what caught her attention.

'mum' He stood and Shiv also stood.

The Lolo eyed Shivani 'stand up and leave here. I want to have a me time with my son'

'yes your majesty' She lowered her head a little and dashed off.

'mum' He called.

'i've already consulted the ndi ichies. Your marriage with Shivani Ibe is about to be annulled'

'what?!'
