You don't need ok to board. You are going to a country that it takes months before you get visa. It's not a paper visa nah. Even immigration no get right to ask for Roger. Lol.

Good evening house,

Please for those that have already traveled or anyone with experience in these areas, what documents, toiletries, clothes etc would you advice us to carry as we travel to canada. What documents would we need for enrollment and at the border, etc. I have read some comments about the jackets and jeans we should hold and the ones we needn't bother about. But I want clarification especially as to documents for enrollment and foodstuff. Thanks you.

Hold your approval letter (document), school admission letter etc and of course your passport. For the clothes, Canada is presently on sale and u can get cheap winter jackets now coz winter or fall isn't here now. The weather is hot now so light clothes will do fine. However if you are coming in august, it would be good to get your cardigans ready please do as you would be needing it as at the time u re coming in.

For food they are more concerned about diary products like milk, nuts etc. You would be asked to declare it on the form given to you in the plane and the officer would ask u what it is and that's all. They really don't seize or check it. However I have also seen someone whose box was searched at the airport but for many people they don't.

Cheers

Hello bosses,

A quick update.

Your study permit actually starts from the day you entered Canada, however you cannot work until your school starts.

By all means, download google maps if you no want dey lost like me. (Everywhere look alike to me especially where i dey stay.)

Also, I just got to know from the finance office, that your Research assistance stipend will not be taxed. However, do ask your school for more clarifications.

For phone line, I advise you go with your current phone until you are settled and locate the cheapest provider. At the moment, I use videotron but might be switching to a cheaper one later.

Once again, documents required for bank opening, are your study permit, passport and your school offer (at least in my case). If you carry usd follow body, they will do the exchange rate for you. Most importantly ask for the package for new comers. Almost every bank has this package, it has free banking (with no fees), free cheque books, free safe deposit box(for a year), credit card without credit cheque (if you qualify and a certain limit depending on the bank)

When you arrive locate the nearest shopping centre where things are cheap. Tell the attendants you are new and ask if they have any premium membership cards. This card allows you buy stuffs at a discounted rate. I got to know these from a sudanese lady that works in the shopping centre/super market. This saves you money.

Use the bus. Please use the bus. I figured out that your bus ticket, when used (you get a receipt)is valid for 1hr 30mins. Since you are new, pending when you get a upass(That is what we call it here. This gives you free access to bus rides and it is included in your tuition), get bus tickets at the nearest convinience stores or a presto card(This comes discounted too). Ask the drivers too for directions, they will direct you too.

Everything you buy here is taxed(sales tax) as well. So, look at going cheap for a while. By that I mean, seek alternatives but cheap products. That way you save cost.

This helps you save cash especially if you do currency conversion, your head go just scatter.

Ask questions when you dont understand or know anything. The people here are nicell. They smile a lot. So you should be fine.

The temperature is fluctuating between 16 and 28 degrees, but in these past days it has been hovering around 16-19. So please beware. When landing, atleast have a sweatshirt or cardigan handy, you never can tell. Weather fit go change as you dey enter town.

For TRV hopefuls, my thoughts and prayers are with you. You will surely get positive responses sooner than you expect. God is involved.

It shall end in praises...

Peace...

Maziude

Ma'am, you may want to reconsider this. There may be a thing or two that your SOP didn't highlight that another person may point out. I still think you should allow a second person go through it. Even if it's your friend, family or somebody close or even somebody you don't really know. A little thing like a typographical or grammatical error could be noticed by a second eye. Just my opinion though. I wish i can help before you submit on monday. But if you insist on submitting it that way, fine,

All the best in your application.

Regards.

What then do you classify as home tie?

1. Paid Job
where you can be given an introduction letter and or study leave (preferably with pay if possible)

2. Family
Thats if one is married.

3. Registered business with verifiable documents

4. Landed Properties in your name (with evidence)

5. Bond letter
This is usually from your work place after you have gotten your leave with pay which states that you are mandated to return and resume work (usually the duration of the time of your study).

This and the finance section of your (all) study visa application are the most important.

Consider adding more schools to your list bro, I hope you also put in consideration availability of professors in your areas of research interest(s) and your cgpa mostly last two years

I love this spirit.

What about including a CAC which is registered in my name

If such business is fully operational with evidence of transactions if possible tax clearance cert its good enough.

That brings you back to convincing the judge (VO) via SOP how passionate you are to pursuing ur dreams via your registered business and why Nigeria is the main place(market) if not only place such business can thrive and how you can never trade your business and ideas regarding it for anything.

In summary build your SOP around your business to strengthen your home tie because most businesses today can be conducted online and this judges knows this.

My GGPA for the final 2years is 4.5 Each.
But my first concern is finance, I have not really searched for Professors yet.
I just need advice from those that are already there on the most affordable for tuition and cost of living.then I will search for a professor

Please give examples of home ties

I already did.

Please more shoulf be added to the list as those were the ones i can recall for now.

This home tie issue is the most tricky aspect of visa application. As av seen lots of people with so much cash yet denied visa not just canada even U.S and ordinary U.K visa.

@canadian nurse @maziude and those that have there trv already pls add more examples of home tie.

Thanks

I totally get you. But the important question is...will the Visa officer understand from your point of view. I usually advise applicants that 'If any part of your application doesn't add up in your head, chances that it wouldn't to the VO is high'.

With your years of experience and what you intend to achieve with the training you are applying for, I think it is only proper to act as your sponsor! Leave family issue of who will cater for your family in your absence. You will sort that out happily when your successfully collect your visa!

About the program you are going for, it is left to you to convince the visa officer in your letter of explanation why you are going to spend so much on an international degree and why you have chosen to not study in your home country! You need to do a lot of work and research on this letter and explain everything in full details and facts to back up your claims!

I wish you all the best! Feel free to share on this thread any issues you may encounter in your application process. We are one big happy family!!! grin

The finance shouldn't be an issue here your major constraints is "purpose of visit" considering age and experience. However, Use your home tie to kill this issue.

If you are yet to resign pls reconsider and if possible resign when you get your visa as you are giving up another very good home tie via resignation. Rather get study leave which you can call off latter on if necessary.

Your SOP is your only savior on this.

Tell the judge (V.O) how you can't wait to come back to be with your beloved family hence the reason for the choice of 12 months program. "With evidence"

I dont know how much time you have you could register your company if you haven't done so and tell the judge how your travel is in line with your dream and passion of devoting all your time in your newly registered business "with evidence"

Tell the JUDGE via SOP of your 12 months plans to carter for your immediate family in your absence "with evidence"

As per the payment issue.
Yes it is expected you hav enof fund after retirement. Get ur inlaw to move the money into your account and pay the whole tuition via form A. Let the V.O worry about your living expenses which you shouldn't have just about CAD20k as you have family back home to support even if wifey works.

If you do this judiciously, you CAN'T be denied visa even if you carry a full virgin passport provided God has chased your village people away from your destiny! grin

I guess by best school your talking based on tuition and not ranking...

If tuition then you have them listed already.

Apply to the three schools. Don't do jst one application even if you have 4.0 CGPA. For High blood pressure check ni shocked

@oben209 home tie is anything that shows commitment to your country of origin/residence

Think of anything that makes you committed to Nigeria and has an evidence

Having a family in Nigeria gives the VO that discrete feeling that you cannot leave them and run away

Also things like landed properties, if you have a work you need to return to after studies etc

Dear applicant
I have reviewed your application and document which you submitted in its support. I have a concern that you have not fufilled the requirement put upon you by section 16(1) of the immigration and refugee protection act.
On the current application form, you indicate that you have never been refused any kind of visa, admission, or been ordered to leave Canada or any other country.According to information in our records, you were refused a visa to the united state in 2015.
I would like to give you an opportunity to respond to this information, I will afford you 15days from the date of this letter to make any representation in this regard. Please use the address noted on this letter for all correspondence and clearly indicate your file number.if you do not respond to this request within the time outlined above ,your application will be addressed based on the information available, which will likely result in a refusal.
My nairalanders honestly I was refused USA visa in 2015 ,but it seems I mistakenly tick no when filling the form.
Pls what do you guys think of my chance of getting this visa based on this message.am so scared.pls I need ur opinion.

between you and God did u mistakenly tick NO or it was intentional? Since u said it was a mistake, did you mention it in your sop? as that would help. Well, u have to convince the vo why u didn't state the refusal if not that will mean "refusal" and a posible ban of around 2 years or more.
