There’s No Stopping Fashola’s Probe —Keyamo April 16, 2010 15:02, 1,040 views By Kazeem Ugbodaga Lagos lawyer and counsel to the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Festus Keyamo says nothing would stop the House from probing allegations of financial misappropriation against Governor Babatunde Fashola. He called on the governor to submit himself to probe in order to clear himself, saying there was no hiding through court injunction to dodge the probe against him. The State House of Assembly had yesterday set up a fresh 7-member committee to probe allegations against the governor by the True Face of Lagos, which staged a protest to the House recently to demand probe of the governor. Speaking with P.M.NEWS this morning, Keyamo said that the governor should be probed, adding that the accolades the governor received in the media should not divert attention from the real thing. “Every public officer has a duty to give account of stewardship no matter the height of praise singing he receives from the press. The office you are occupying is not your father’s property but the public. “Probe is not the same thing as verdict of guilt, but an opportunity for one to clear himself. If Fashola believes his hands are clean, now is the opportunity for him to shine,” he stated. According to him, “Fashola should take the path of honour and clear himself of the allegations. He can’t continue to hide under court injunction. “If you say you plant grass and flower, come and tell the people how much you spent in planting them, tell them how you spent their money because it is not your father’s money. “The House must go ahead with the probe because it is their constitutional and moral duty to do what they want to do. They have now properly published the allegations in their official journal.” Comrade Bamidele Aturu, who was counsel to Mr. Richard Akinola, the man who first went to court to stop the House from probing the governor, said “we will assess our legal option and deal with the issue.” Aturu stated that if the House erred in setting up the new committee, it would be challenged in the court, saying that “we are for democracy and probity.” Also, Majority Leader, Lagos Assembly, Hon. Kolawole Taiwo said the House had already published the allegations in the Assembly’s journal, saying that the House would go ahead with the probe. http://thepmnews.com/2010/04/16/there%E2%80%99s-no-stopping-fashola%E2%80%99s-probe-%E2%80%94keyamo |

Re: There Is No Stopping Fashola’s Probe —keyamo by Kobojunkie: 12:46am On Apr 17, 2010 |
I SAID IT!! I knew it if he didn't deal with it, more eyes will hone in on this issue! Hardtalk: This is what this man should have done a long time ago, and we would all have moved past this issue by now!! You are a Governor, not a private person anymore. You have to ensure people know what is going on no matter what. Like the man said, it is not your papa house where you go dey keep to yourself and all! This is bad for his image and those advising him on this ought to know better. |

In order not to leave doubts in the minds of the people, Fashola should make himself available for the probe. If he comes out clean, his approval rating among the populace will soar. chichi234: I am a great admirer of Fashola but I take exception to the utterances of people like Chichi234 as quoted above, it is immature and uncivilised. |

Probing the allegations being put forward is not the issue. It is the body that is instituting the probe i have a problem with. The State Assembly was implicated, therefore they cannot be neutral. Why not get a completely neutral body to fm the job? By the way, which probe of this magnitude takes 2 weeks |

Re: There Is No Stopping Fashola’s Probe —keyamo by Mariory(m): 5:02pm On Apr 17, 2010 |
Kobojunkie: That is an outright lie Kobojunkie. You were advocating for him to defend himself in the press. Do you not understand that this probe is not about Fashola talking to the media but about him appearing before the house to defend himself? Basically, this is the exact process we said should be used and not some he said/you said drama in the newspapers. |
Re: There Is No Stopping Fashola’s Probe —keyamo by Amhatu(m): 5:13pm On Apr 17, 2010 |
simplychic: simplychic, it seems the enemies of progress in Nigeria work through their lackeys to bring down does whom seek to help the working people gain access to wealth and better living conditions to enable a positive environment. Its a really sad ordeal when persons see the Progress this great Man, Gov.Babetunde Raji Fashola, has done for Nigeria and Lagos state while others attempt public smear campaigns for whatever reasons of their selfish aims. We must speak out about it and let the detractors know they will not be unchecked. |
Re: There Is No Stopping Fashola’s Probe —keyamo by truly: 5:18pm On Apr 17, 2010 |
Amhatu:Who are the detractors and who is the "detractee"? But seriously, never trust any politician, especially those in Nigeria I want ALL of them brought to book no exception given on account of region, age, party or religion |
Re: There Is No Stopping Fashola’s Probe —keyamo by Kobojunkie: 5:21pm On Apr 17, 2010 |
Mariory: Please provide the very post where I state that ALL HE HAS TO DO IS TALK TO THE MEDIA or accept you are the one here trying to LIE. He is known to have used, and continue to the same media to advance his many projects and the image of the state he wants the people to have. I remember the many ads urging the public to pay taxes, and many others advertising other projects the state was involved in. So why can't one call for him to use the same medium, as well as others to get information out to the public? I specifically remember making sure you to post the tenents of democracy for you to see. I even went a step ahead and informed you that Fashola ought to make information AVAILABLE TO ALL citizens, and now you are here TWISTING my words to claim I said Fashola should only talk to the media? How much lower can you go with this one? |
Re: There Is No Stopping Fashola’s Probe —keyamo by sjeezy8: 5:22pm On Apr 17, 2010 |
well I dont really care if fashola is probed or not most this wonderful developments in his adminstration were thought of by before he came into office anyway. So if fashola is corrupt it still doesnt stop Lagos from developing Fashola isnt lagos. |
Re: There Is No Stopping Fashola’s Probe —keyamo by dasa: 5:25pm On Apr 17, 2010 |

Like Keyamo said, and I feel this point needs to be reposted “Every public officer has a duty to give account of stewardship no matter the height of praise singing he receives from the press. The office you are occupying is not your father’s property but the public. |

Again, So in all I posted on there, all you took from that is that Obama ONLY defended himself IN THE PRESS? Is that your understanding of ALL Obama has had to do in informing the people on HealthCare? sigh!! To Any Nairalander wishing to know what discussion I had on this some weeks ago, please visit the thread link below to find out what I really said in over 5 pages on this very issue. Kobojunkie: I don't know why you insist on using huge bolded fonts especially for a link I already posted. So if I misunderstood what you ment. Then kindly clarify. At the time of the thread in the link there was no probe panel. So how exactly did you expect Fashola to "clear" his name? |
Re: There Is No Stopping Fashola’s Probe —keyamo by selingel: 6:19pm On Apr 17, 2010 |
I do not care what anyone will say here, but one thing is sure here, let Fashola submit himself for probe, and prove people wrong. Shekinah!. |
Re: There Is No Stopping Fashola’s Probe —keyamo by truly: 6:33pm On Apr 17, 2010 |
Kobojunkie: Mariory:Since you both agree that the man should answer And now that we have a probe can we PLEASE end this matter between 2 members of the public while the politicians are laughing us to scorn Kindly let us unite and put pressure on them Let the probe go on then in public. Full TV coverage please! |
Re: There Is No Stopping Fashola’s Probe —keyamo by Kobojunkie: 6:35pm On Apr 17, 2010 |
This is not a matter of uniting. Fashola had ample time to clear his name by using democracy to his advantage. I think he could have easily avoided this prob, and his advisers made a mistake with this one. Like the article states, a probe does not necessarily spell guilt but this is not good for his image. |
