Hyphee: Liftedhands is right. Never touch or rub or apply ice on the injection area. That was the instruction I was given at the hospital. During bath time, do not do anything to the injection area. Do not massage with hot or warm or cold water. Just bath her as normal. Do not also check after a few days to see if the area is "hard". If it's swollen, it will be very visible to the eyes. A little swelling is normal but if it's really swollen or there's a discharge of pus, then take your child to the hospital. Try this method this time (no touching, no massaging or ice) and see if it works. Give your baby paracetamol a few hours before she's immunised. Do not allow the nurse rub the injection area after administering the vaccine. All she is to do is apply a small plaster over the injection site (the plaster usually falls off on its own within a day). Finally, if the swollen, pain and discomfort from the previous injection sites persists, then take her to another hospital to seek a second opinion. She might actually need mild antibiotics or a topical cream to apply on the injection area to get rid of the swelling and discomfort. P.S. If I was in your shoes, I will take the child to a different hospital to get her followup immunisation. I won't be comfortable with the fact that it took weeks for the child to recover from the previous injections. Some unscrupulous hospitals are known to store the vaccines wrongly or administer expired vaccines. 2 Likes |

I've never heard any negative thing about aptamil but please don't start any formula that isn't readily available near you. I usually order formula by carton. One day when my formula finished suddenly in the night cos my vendor had delivery issues I just popped into the supermarket and bought what I wanted. Babies cannot understand "be patient food dey come" oh! Chanbaby: |

30 mls of water to 1 scoop but your baby may not ff the months written exactly. Feed according to his appetite and don't worry if he doesn't finish the scoops assigned to his age yet. He will get there eventually ftmum: 2 Likes |

realtalk19:It shouldn't still be painful now if you're making sure he only sucks when the whole areola is in his mouth that way u would hardly feel a thing while he's sucking. Also try a nipple shield. Read a book. Watch a movie. Don't know about pap. I think three months. CC Zaynie |

Pls note that all baby formula are good depending on your pocket. And since you are introducing for the first time pls do not purchase in bulk because your LO may reject it, as advised by experienced mothers. I use Aptamil till now and itz very good. The number of scoops of formula depends on the age of your LO. The recommended ml is also indicated on every brand. Also I will suggest you feed cereal to your lo with a spoon and plate, it makes eventual transition from bottle to plates easy. That's not to say you won't use bottles at all. I hope this helps Chanbaby: 2 Likes |

lululuv: What type of circumcision was done? The modern ring method or the traditional method? If it's the traditional method and you have any concerns, I will suggest you take him back to the hospital where it was done and seek the doctor's opinion. Do not attempt to pull out the stitches yourself. Keep using Vaseline though. It helps the area to heal and prevent skin friction with his diaper. |
Re: NEW BORN BABIES! Are U A New Mum? Then Lets Discuss Babies Here!!!!! by reniduke(f): 3:31pm On Aug 04, 2017 |
Please why are people saying no ice? Its called a cold compress. You do not apply the ice directly. You're to wrap it in a wash cloth, test that its not too cold by pressing on your skin before you press down on baby's injection site. It's what i did for mine or else you'll let the injection site heal hard like that. They say Dont rub the injection site because they dont want to introduce infection into the wound. You can also apply (not rub) a little mentholatum to the site. I did mentholatum in the mornings, cold compress in the evenings. This is after i had left it untouched for almost 5 days and it wasnt getting better and even looked red. Do cold compress so you dont wait for it to get complicated. It can happen with any nurse, it could be a vaccine reaction but just incase ask the nurse to be gentle when next you go. Hyphee: 2 Likes |

Please mamas help me torchlight this issue. Had a discussion with my friends who are in US. I told her that my baby had stopped breastfeeding and he is currently on Cow and Gate 6 to 12 months. They have been trying to convince me that what we do in Nigeria is wrong. That the baby should be on the formula that says breastmilk substitute suitable from birth. That the formula is okay until 1 year old. That if you are breastfeeding, you don't suddenly change milk because the baby is 6 months that your milk remains the same. The only thing is to support by starting them on new foods or putting them on multivites. They said that in US, infant milk is regulated so they are very careful. However, anything from 6 months or stage 2 or whatever, is the company's own way of promoting their goods, is not regulated and may contain a lot of additives that's why babies usually have runny stools when they change to the stage 2 milk. And it's not even formula anymore but a kind of follow on milk. I did some Googling and realised that a lot of people seem to think so. I don't know if it's just paranoia or it's real. Please help me, i am about to buy another carton and it's not cheap. Or should i go back to his milk for hungrier babies? cc Alphahandmaiden, sugah, feddy, zaynie and any other mama that can help. |

XX01: Well the practise is not only in nigeria but world wide. I can understand their argument that breast milk doesnt change with the age of the child and infant milk is claimed to be formulated to be as close to breast milk as possible, however research also has it that there are so many components in breast milk that science is currently unable to mimic, so to market something as a "substitute" is actually a misrepresentation. For example in the UK infant formulars are not marketted in that way. They also hardly do offers on infant milk and their adverts are also very carefully worded as the UK and EU regulations do not allow them flaunt it as a substitute for or equating it to breast milk as they are actively trying to promote breast feeding. It is totally up to you, if you want to continue with the follow on milk or if you with to stick with the 0-6 months but i would beg to disagree that follow on milk to 12 months are all crap filled. the infant milks is also more expensive than follow on milk All that means is that extra N500 ot $3 or £2 is to pay for all the research that has gone into trying to formulate their brand. I would also like to see a proper research that validates their arguments, is it based on proper facts or are they just rumours based on a very plausible scenario. Until indepth research is also done it could just be the other way around where the infant milk is EXACTLY the same formulation as the follow on and it is being sold as a premium... just because they can get away with marketting it as a substitute for breast milk. Either way the formular company still wins..... Sorry i dont think i have actually helped. but personally in wouldnt overthink the matter. 1 Like |
