Sorry that I didn't tell you what you wanted to hear. I hope you know that the VO wouldn't apologise to you for asking to announce your salary in the presence of other visa applicants and still deny you.

I have a question please. On my interview appointment confirmation, I spelt one of my name wrongly.... Just a letter... A simple typo and my interview is in Lagos but I chose Abuja for pickup since I'll be traveling to Abuja after the interview. Does this matter or I can just leave it like that?

Good evening house and thanks for the wonderful job here. I have 2 questions :
1. I'm going to spend part of my annual week in New York and will be staying with my landlord who is a permanent resident in usa and my father's childhood friend. Please which category does this falls to? Should I pick friend or others in the ds160 form?
2. I work 2 jobs(1 full time Govt job and other part time but earn more), how do I add that in my application or should I just stick with one while filling the ds160 form?

Your response would be highly appreciated
This is the type of question the gurus in the house should see to.
Not the likes of which documents do I hold while going for the interview?

1. FRIEND is okay

2. Fill in one of the jobs, preferably the government job though, calculate the monthly average income from both jobs and declare same. Whatever comes up if at all thereafter, should be explained verbally at the interview as is. No ish

One thing I know is that this thread has helped me a lot, all the way from the part 1, knowledge is power, research helps, no gainsaying that. I just don't like the quarrels here any more at all, I get scared talking cos I'm pro reading from pages 1 to the last (so that no one on the anti side bashes or bullies me or draws me into a pig fight, this fear is real too and I'm surprised no one experiencing this like me is talking, the anti group looks like they are the only ones afraid to speak up, I'm too), I was asked to, I did and I'm better for it. Have had a couple of travel experiences and a Canadian TRV in the kitty (hopefully, I will secure the US own soon too in addition) because of the diligence taught here particularly and in other threads. Everything has its season and time, everyone too. Let's just learn to do things right and stop being offended by those who point us in this direction, we will be happier for it on the long run. Study, stoop to conquer. Long live this thread.

Yippee! US visa interview done and dusted.

Apologies ahead please, this may end up being a long post.

Background: Refused first in '15 when I wanted to visit with my husband, some sort of honeymoon. Moved on to visit Dubai. Was back to the US Embassy mid 2016 because i wanted to visit for Easter without hubby this time and interview was going well and very smooth till it got to the point I was asked if I was pregnant and I answered in the affirmative (hubby and I resolved on this seriously), asked if I will birth in the US, I said I don't know yet as I was just only in the middle of my very first trimester, that answer did me in, and interview ends at this point with a refusal yet again but I was satisfied I didn't deny being pregnant because I know there will still be a tomorrow for me with the US Embassy. Next, I was in South Africa for a church programme and then Kenya (didn't do more than 5 days on any of these travels). Applied online for Canadian TRV (they too have refused me previously in 2012 before I got married and was yet young on my job) and was approved after over 6 months. Thanks to all those too numerous to mention that makes this thread thick particularly the one and only Lady Guinevere and NanaF too that was the first person that ever answered me in the part 1 of this thread, haven't seen her comment a very long while.

Fast forward to early this week:

VO: Hello (looking at her system)

Me: Hello (with a smile)

VO: How do you do?

Me: I'm good. And you?

VO: I'm good (still not lifting her head). Passport please (I hand her my passport)! Where in the US are you going?

Me: I'm actually headed for Canada to visit my sister, she's celebrating her 40th, but I also will want to use this opportunity to spend 4 days in the US visiting and attending a friend's 35th birthday in Texas.

VO: You have a Canadian visa?

Me: Yeah, I have a Canadian visa on the passport (she flips through to check).

VO: Are you married?

Yes, I'm married and we are blessed with a son who will be one by September.

VO: Okay. What do you do?

Oh, I work with xxxx company as their xxxx Manager, we are into xxxx.

VO: For how long now have you been at xxxx firm?

Me: I've worked with them for 6 years now.

VO:Pick up your visa in 3 days time at this place.

Me: Thanks ma (Walks away). Canada and US in a moment smiley cool

You said if asked to state in local currency, that has answered the question. Local not foreign. Do you spend the dollar you received in Nigeria markets?Hope you converted it to Naira before spending it in our markets.Do yourself a favour by converting the salary in dollar, any know the how much it is naira.
Bros,stop confusing yourself.

It doesn't matter who invites you, you're the one that would be interviewed and assessed on your merit. VOs don't look at letters of invitation, the most important thing is for you to be able to establish that you have strong ties to your home country/or country of residence.

Pls kindly throw more light on the. term 'strong ties" with regard to my post. thanks

ogbuzulu:

"Strong ties" is difficult to explain but I go try sha. Firstly you should know that the impression of VOs is that the visa applicant being interviewed has the intention to migrate. Meaning that he wouldn't come back to his home country when on non-immigrant visa (NIV) to US. That is the assumption whether justifiable or not.

It is now the duty of the visa applicant to demonstrate that he'll return to Nigeria after his short visit. So it is usually assumed that if the applicant has strong ties to his country, there shouldn't be any reason for him not to come back home after his short visit. Though not true in all cases but that is the assumption.

Assessment of strong ties can very subjective but commonsensical. You'll agree with me that someone with a very good job in Nigeria would not want to abandon his work for a life in US, which he's unsure of. As against someone without a good job or none at all, so such a person has nothing to lose by not coming back to Nigeria after his short visit.

This is when good travel history could be advantageous but not a guarantee. At least someone that has been traveling to other countries and did not violate his visa condition may not likely to do so in this instance. Again, it is an assumption.

Back to your case, you're a graduate probably unemployed. From your post, the strongest strength stated is your Uncle in US who wants to invite you. Unfortunately, the VOs doesn't see this as a strength rather they want to assess you on your own individual merit.

I hope I was able to make some sense.

Convert to the local currency.
Most embassies convert using oanda converter:

Your invitation letter would not add any value to her visa application, equally the graduate ID serve no purpose here. My suggestion is that you should allow her parent to sponsor her for the visa application.

Thanks for this, her dad just agree to sponsor her but how will I send her invitation letter? Is there anything special about it?

Can I just say one more time, and as multiple Pos on this forum have said, THE COLOUR OF THE PAPER IS IRRELEVANT!

What is important is what is written on it

I hail you all, i went for my Interview in Lagos today which was by 8:45am and was interviewed by a young lady in window 1 i was denied below is my Transcript

Me: good morning
VO: your passport please
Me: I passed it to her
VO: where are you going to
Me: San Antonio
VO: why
Me: i hope to attend .... i mentioned the name of the conference, the organizer and people it is for, but she cuts me short
VO: Have you traveled out of Nigeria before
Me: Yes to Ghana and Dubai
VO: where do you work
Me: I told her where i work, my position and started telling her my duties then she cuts me short
VO: Are you married
Me: Yes
VO: do you have children
Me: I have a child
VO: Sorry ....You can reapply
Me: Thank you

All these communication was within 1min, and she has been dishing out blue paper to those before me that made the person behind me had to excuse herself that she wants to use the toilet and went and stand to be interviewed in another window, No white paper on her table only blue

The thing is that i really want to attend the conference as that is the only conference organized for people in my field of work which will really help me as individual and my organization at large, though the conference is in November my company will be paying for it " though i can also afford it" Please i need your suggestion if i should reapply or will it look as if i am desperate

I suppose your company is sponsoring your trip to this conference? If that is so, you should have led with that right away. You do not expect the VO to believe that your company is going to let you walk away for a week or more for something that is of no benefit to them... neither do you expect her to believe that you are personally funding a trip that is supposedly going to benefit you in your job.

Good that her Dad agreed to sponsor which I think is the right thing to do in this case. There is no standard for letter of invitation, it can be an email or handwritten, typed just to say you're inviting someone for ... bla....bla. However, this letter wouldn't add any value to her visa application but no harm in holding it. What is important is her ability to demonstrate that her Dad would be able to sponsor her for the trip conveniently, and hope that your friend's PG studentship would be factored in when viewing her strong ties. I wish her best of luck.

please friends, I need your advise. My 2013 DV lottery visa was denied on the ground that I used my country of residence (Gabon) as the foreign state of chargerbility. My visa fee was refunded after going through the interview and taking the finger print.

I intend to attend a conference soonest which the organizer will send me an invitation letter and a guarantee letter to take care of all my stay in the US. Please my questions is as follow:

(1) should I fill the form that I have a relation in the US? Because the 2013 DV lottery form has a name of my relation.

(2). I have a stable business and how much should I fill as my monthly earning?

(3) what documents should I include in my file since am a business man
