The 1890s was the epochal period for the film industry, motion pictures camera having been developed in the 1870s and 80s. So by 1900s, the industry was very much quite established. The movies were silent however. The audio movies came into being in the mid 1920s.

South Africa was the first country in africa to have such cinemas like the one below in the 20s, (img2).

In Kenya they were introduced in the 30s.
Those structures in Kenya still exist to this day. Not far from where I stay there is the Belle Vue Drive in Cinema which was constructed in the 40- 50s (img1).

They are still there even in SA, only that u have no idea what those structures were meant for.

Outdoor movies/drive- in movies in Africa started in SA since the 1900s.

In Kenya, it was already in some few places around Nairobi and Monbasa and in tge Central Kenya by the 1930s.

But in both countries, they were strictly meant for the whites.

In lagos,movie screening started in 1903 and by 1926 movie production in nigeria started.By 1957 coloured production started at a time when such was still a novelty.By 1957 ticket sales hit 3.5million movie goers.

About the kenyan election, I cannot hide anything from you, kenyan elections are very very verrrry tight and it means a lot to most kenyans. Its almost a life or death thingy, you should ask nigerians resident here. I dont know who killed the guy, could be politically motivated but could also be a love triangle. He was killed alongside a 21 yr old lover and the guy was already married.

In Northern Nigeria, tribalism is rare. Religion is the real dividing factor because we had a unifying lingua franca (in Hausa language).

Swahili really appears useless to me as far as Kenya is concerned.

I had to ask a friend that came back from there and what she said about Kenya was funny. Although there are a few nice places but generally most areas are something else even nairobi.

I don't know why they enjoy fault representation of what they are.

Dont all Nigerians speak English? Religion is a non issue in Kenya and tribalism has its own unique roots largely due to the political class. They will speak even swahili to divide ppl. Realize that ppl do not feel as attached to the Swahili language in the same way that muslims or christians feel attached to their respective religions. The typical muslim fanatic feels like he has a duty to defend his religion at all costs and the same applies to the fanatic christian. The majority of those religious ppl btw are fanatical in a way that a Kenyan cannot be for swahili language.
