apart from social media angle of it. all the newspapers in Nigeria are mouth piece of the ruling or opposition party. they are paid on daily basis to promote party activities hence a tool for propaganda. no investigative journalism, no fact. all lies and propaganda esp since APC came on board |

The worst of it all is you cant even get to feel the opinions of people via print media, whereas on social you can. Though it still has many positives 1 Like |

Let's not forget that newspapers now have a presence online via their own websites. Isn't Sahara Reporters an exclusively ONLINE NEWSPAPER? Even Linda Ikeji's blog could easily be classified as an online magazine or ENTERTAINMENT NEWSPAPER. Lol. The point here is that Nigerian newspapers need to move with the times or end up being only useful for selling akara. Lol. 2 Likes |

For everything under the sun, there is a season. Newspapers are gradually giving way to online news. With cheap data and good internet connection, the dearth of Newspapers could be faster. 1 Like |

cupidkef: The fact remains that newspapers will still be relevant......simply because they are mandated to publish verified and factual news. And are more apt to publish facts and truth as they can be penalized/sued for propagating false information As for social media, a lot of false news and unverified information is the norm.....its usually quite difficult to verify their facts and even more difficult to hold them to account..... I might be wrong but this is my take on the matter 5 Likes |

To me Newspapers (printed media) are still relevant and useful in the advent of "new media" (social media and co). I still go thru them and even photocopy some sections to use for writing speeches and also keep some which can serve as exhibit. The place of printed media will always be relevant. I have also discovered that not all the sections you find on the printed media is found on the "new media". 3 Likes |

I work with a PR Measurement and Evaluation Agency and we use both the traditional (Print newspaper) publication and online publications. I think they are still still relevant in these days because of the audience they address (i.e; the elderly ones in the society). There are some adverts and advertorials you won't see online but will be in the newspapers. Also, some companies and organizations want to know how their stories and events are being viewed by the public. Hence, they request for clippings from these newspapers. Even foreign organizations are not left out of this trend. I have had the opportunity to work with foreign organizations who request for print clippings of story concerning their brand or the client they represent. So, i think it is still very much relevant. 1 Like |

lonelydora:No, the 2 outlets serve different purposes. You can read news online but are the contents arranged as it is in a news paper. A news paper gives you an arranged view, you can mark topics of concerns and interest, keep and refer to when it needs to be discussed. Just as there are E document control systems we can completely rule out paper documentation. |

I find reading through an electronic device extremely stressful especially when it's a lengthy reading so yes I still read the newspaper cover to cover anytime I come across one. |

obagangan: If run the right way, print media will always be better than the subjective online crap we read everyday. Think about it. Let's say you own a blog, would you want me to assume whatever you put up on it is the gospel truth? Where did you find the facts you are disseminating? Online stories are basically rumors being spread around. Newspapers traditionally write facts that have gone through tedious and meticulous fact checking. Just take NL as a case study. People just put up rubbish topics for debate and the gullible ones take it as fact. 2 Likes |

Social media has relegated Newspapers to one corner. We can read the daily headlines with ease but some key adverts and informations are passed through Newspapers. Aside that, nothing really useful in buying papers |

AtkinsPlanet: Exactly what I had in mind to type. Not everyone has access to internet e.g. the old and retirees and practically not ready to pass through the Herculean task of accessing internet e.g. data subscription, charging of phone always to surf net, offing and putting on data every now and then etc. To them, the best is to buy the paper, read straight up and go their way. |
