The GIS for one are all qualed MFF, they are recruited almost exclusively from the 1st paratroopers regiment of the Carabinieri "Tuscania"...itself an elite unit..

Military combat diving is not the same as LE diving, even if some areas overlap..

Military style LE diving came about in Europe in the 70's. We have a lot of GOPLATS,Ferries, etc etc and it was thought that if a CT/HR etc situation ever occurred having a LE intervention capability with divers might be useful..everything from recce, surveillance all the way to direct action.

They've been employed a few times too..

Recce Selection, for example, is tougher than SAS Selection, on the criterion the 2 units choose to make public. The post-Selection training that the 2 units embark on is classified, and I have no doubt the SAS version in superior.
And there. No complex, no inferior complex, no need to accuse me of opologetics nor low self-esteem.
