@MackyNaija, thanks for the pieces you have shared so far.
I want to know if Texas A and M admits HND in Engineering for Graduate Studies.
This I cannot say but what I know is that for engineering (at least from different people in different departments) they collected our 'raw' transcript from naija University and evaluated it internally.

Powerbroker:
Please can you send the IP address of the school? Google gives several results. One does not really know which is credible.
www (dot) tamuk (dot) edu is authentic.

Small school in size but mighty overall. wink

funkyfrevy:
Good information u have shared so far. I want to know if AnM require u pay for application fee cos some schools demands it. Also I want to know how the other 9ja guy u met got an accommodation scholarship. Thanks
Application fee is required to finalize your application for admission, can't remember the cost.

The accommodation was for summer session when most people are home relaxing, he moves out this fall.

It came as a bundle together with his admission.

For most part, when you apply online, there is a part that ask, how did you hear about us? Then you answer, the career fair.
It then takes you to another section that would need you to put in the name of the person who interviewed you at the fair.
Internally, the company's HR would contact the person to brief them about your recent interview at job fair with him.

Depending on how well you did and the feedback they get, these might inform their decision to move forward with your candidacy.

Thanks for your input.

How would you handle internship applications asking for GPA?

I never had problems flaunting my GPA. I graduated summa cum laude. So it is one of my selling points.
Back to your question, there is no creative way to get around it other than to tell them what exactly you have.

Res ipsa loquitur.

If you meet the requirement, see whether you would want to consider joining the America Honors Society. It is good to have their membership on resume.

hi bro. how're you doing.am sure you're already acclimatizing. i got some questions ooo. abeg permit me to ask wrt graduate studies
1. want to know if tamuk accepts evaluated transcripts from wes or should it be the same one from naija uni. if not what's the alternative. cos am thinking wrt the best option
2. budgeted annual school fees (i.e 2 semesters).
thanks in earnest
1. My department doesn't do WES. They evaluate internally using soft copy and request for hard copy when you are admitted.

2. Out of state school fees and other charges - ~16k, if you get In state waiver it becomes ~7k for 2 semesters.

Total stated on the site is ~28k.

All other amounts (e.g 28k minus 16k)are for living cost and miscellaneous expenses (transport, rent, utilities, beer, pizza etc etc).

@Mackynaija. I have been a ghost reader all d while. I must thank u for a very great and helpful tread u put up here. Thanks to Seun too. I don dey estimate about 5million naira for the graduate studies o. Chaii neither my parents nor I can get that money so I sit with d crew at home. Once again thanks
First semester spending go reach like 7-9k confirmed (if you get instate scholarship here) except you wan over 'rugged' expenditures e.g get a $650 2-bedroom flat then 7people split the bills - ends at ~$100 in rent + utilities per month.

I don't recommend this style, the more the people in an apartment, the less chance for concentration. After all na to get good grades carry us come here.
I read comfortably in my small room, no noise.

My application package was loved by the school so they waives some fees to entice me to attend.

Sorry, I can't recommend any but I know schools in Texas charge very low compared to others. It was even discussed at a Forum with Dean and Faculty yesterday.

Setup a $500k investment in a 'remote' area in Yankee, employ few people and they give you an otu-matic residency!

Choi! I am strictly engineering, no idea about the sciences sef not to talk of dabbling into Law (that's if they run the program here).

It has been 'very fine' so far...

Still getting hammered by what I don't grab at first sight..
Turning in 2 assignments weekly...
Impromptu tests and class work...

In the midst of all this, I still need to read, attend association and society meetings, cook (this takes time!), and also find time to visit friends...

To find the time to take pursue woman or drink beer hard pass to build 2nd Niger bridge... embarassed
Summa cum laude people, abeg show me the way.

*Also, if I don't answer your question means I probably skipped it in a hurry. Pls ask again here, no inbox UNTIL you get admitted and choose to attend here* tongue

I would assume you applied for the position with a certain educational qualification, if yes, then indicate what ever GPA you have. It does not matter where you obtained the degree. GPA is GPA, the only difference is that some are on a scale of 4.0 (USA) while others are on a scale of 5.0 (Nigeria).

Addendum:
Hints on how to graduate with summa com laude -

1 Take every graded paper serious. Even if it is only worth one point.

2 Do all assignments

3 Study review questions on topics for every test (search the internet for those)

4 Do all the extra credits even if you feel you don't need them

5 Find people that have taken the course in past and get their inputs

6 Study ahead and be ready to find answers to your questions during lectures

7Get a note and write every question the professor asks during classes. Those are usually test questions.

8 Write your papers and turn them in as at when due, don't let them take out points for late paper

9 Attendance might earn you some points too.

When you do all these during the semester , you will find out that most final exams will be just formality, because you already had your A.

Modified:
The internship application and GPA problem.
Undergrad - Mechanical
GradSchool - Industrial (1month in, not even 1 test grade available)

I am applying for positions against next summer using my grad degree I just started.

When applying for internship online, what should I put in as GPA cos its compulsory on some sites.
Some people here that just started the grad program are using a 4.0 GPA rationalizing it by saying they are making a projection.

This acceptable? This dishonest?

I used to say, "Projected GPA of ..." nobody ever questioned it.

As per the extra credit question, some professors if not all do give points for extra credit activities. Check your syllabus to find out which courses offer those.

The extra credit will push up your grade because it's an additional point. For example, if it is worth 10points, that means your grade would be110/100; for a perfect grade. Let's say you had 87 percent in your final grade, with the 10 point extra credit, that would be 97/100. Easy A.

I wrote my first online quiz yesterday..
It was a new experience, test was scheduled for 9am and was due by 9.20... It could be written online from anywhere.

Before I could start, it was 9:01, objective type, multiple choice and fill in the blank type of questions.

I had to rush thru.. Very aware I had to submit at least a minute before due time...
9:19am, I submitted and saw -

Start time 9:01, end time 9:19, duration 18mins - smart software I thought - Then I saw the grading!

Pheewww... This one was fast....
I scored about 90%, twas fair enough, still an A.

I called some friends and they said they saw 'Late' attached to their grades, you submit 1second after due time and it is termed 'Late submission'.
No idea what the implication is - make we deh look.

Plans are on for the 57th Independence Celebration, we need to arrange and present sumfin by the 30th.
You are all invited.

Thinking.. I bring native wear come this town sef?

Miss 3 classes and you are due for the next level grade! Meaning, no matter what you score, you can only get a B-grade maximum.

Keep up with the hard work. It will surely pay off in the end.

Meanwhile, here's a bit of trivia: Stanford, with an undergrad acceptance rate of only 4.65%, is the most selective university in America.
For the 2017/18 academic year, just 2,050 students were granted admission from a pool of over 44,000 applicants. That means 95% of applicants were rejected shocked

its for your own benefit my guy. Not lectures here who teach only to see their handout and make money,at the end of the day they will mark down students.

You get what you deserve. And when you graduate, you will be more employable more than few this our naija grads who cant read.
