ActivateKruger:It was never designed as a tank destroyer, anti-armour(Not necessary tanks) yes, anti tank?? not so much....yes it could've been used as one during the border war, but it was first and foremost a Recce vehicle, built to replace the Eland 90. "The Rooikat was developed to replace the “obsolete”1 Eland 60 and 90 series of armoured cars. Intended missions include combat reconnaissance, aggressive search-and-destroy, anti-armour operations, combat patrols, raids and hot pursuit operations as well as peacekeeping presence patrols." http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6253:fact-file-rooikat-armoured-car-&catid=79:fact-files&Itemid=159 Even by todays standards a 105mm gun would still be under gunned to be effective as a tank destroyer!! See Mech and the others have responded with mostly what I wanted to say no need to replay! |

ActivateKruger: No plan.....for a Rooikat replacement anyway(as far as im aware)!! Most were upgraded only a couple of years ago....So they are pretty modern, as mike said I think the next logical step would be the upgrading of the power unit as seen in the K9 prototype and possibly upgrading of the shells! Don't think African Warrior was set out to replace our current S2000 Pattern or our webbing for that matter, for the most part the project is set out to upgrade the R4(Possibly a replacement),Modifying the kit to suit Women, surveillance systems, Upgrading of the command and control system and in the last phase an integrated helmet system! 1 Like |

LOL Nigeria Is fabrication of facts a national thing? On my feeds this morning is a claim that "Nigeria will have the fastest train in Africa"... Upon reading the article it states that at 160km/h it will be the fastest train on the continent. WTF, no one researches in the land of the eagle. https://www.naij.com/amp/1125711-fastest-trains-africa-reportedly-set-shipped-nigeria-china-photos.html 1 Like |

ActivateKruger:Our Pattern is pretty modern, so I don't think it needs replacing in the near future, our webbing might be old but its still practical, even the newer webbing you see with 6 SAI and the Special forces guys is still heavily based on the M83 jacket. New Cammo and Battle Jacket would be more a nice to have than a need to have! I personal feel an integrated helmet is the next way forward with regards to individual soldiers. |

ActivateKruger:Naij.c*m has always been an hub of fake news. I stopped reading their news a very long time ago. They are unprofessional and will do anything for traffics even if it means jeopardizing national unity. So a little lie to fool their followers who don't question simple fact will not be a problem for them. 5 Likes |

jln115: Yeah, Rooikat came out in the 1990's. The Bradley IFV is expected to serve until at-least 2035, probably into the 2040's. I see no reason why we cannot get another 25 years out of the Rooikat, and upgrades arent that complex: 1. Powerpack - more potent, more efficient. 2. Better powerpack allows armor upgrade while maintaining current performance standards 3. Systems upgrades - basically just modernization packages for optics and substystems. The only new addition required would be netcentric warfare capabilities. 4. Ammunition - the development of over-pressure rounds and new kinetic-penetrators (tungsten alloys?) would improve anti-armor lethality. Conversy we could just stick an ATGM on the turret 5. [MORE IMPORTANT THAN #4] would be improved stabilization for the maingun - actually, I would put this at the top of the list. Stick on RCWS on the turret with some good optics to boot and you have something that our children could be manning. As for personal equipment... I think the army should start thinking about the push towards standardizing optics, or increasing the number of people in platoon who have weapon mounted optics. I have mixed feelings about the RPG-7V that we use I would also like to see the introduction of a modular plate carrier system - something that can be "cut down" for long patrols in difficult conditions or "built up" for mechanised or urban conditions. The current design for the plate-Carriers or BPV we use are ageing very poorly. I think we should go the rout of the Russians with their 6sh112 - its and LBV like our Pat83 but its designed to integrate with both a light and medium plate carrier Optimally though, I would like to see the adoption of a fully modular MOLLE based system that simultaniously fulls the role of an LBV and plate-carrier I am thinking more VERTUS than Ratnik and the 6sh112 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lh60QG_ZZBM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=didnrU77Gn8 1 Like |

Whyem15: First, Algeria and South Africa have trains that are currently doing 160km/h. Morocco has built and is now testing their 300km/h train. Now for someone to say "we will have the fastest train in Africa" at 160km/h is totally stupid when it doesn't even break the record of existing ones while it's even further behind a new one that's already going through tests. This is a common trait displayed by some people in this very thread who often come with "we have the biggest, largest, best in Africa" talk. So that is why I asked if it's a national thing not to bother yourself with facts. 4 Likes |

jln115: True! There aren't many targets our Al Shabaab , BH, M 23 type enemies provide for 105 mm guns. Hence your rapid fire 60 mm Badger. Ideally it would be modular design allowing for a 23 mm 4 barrel and/or some ATGM s like a low end Terminator type vehicle. 1 Like |
