Shorter wheelbase. I think we discussed this Henry240, don't do this to yourself.

I'll just leave this Denel RG-32 - deployed by Sweden in Mali - here. grin grin grin

It seems the current CAS doesn't like the jf17 and might be cancelled in favor of mig 29.
cancelled? This is not a plasma TV order that you can just cancel na. What if the engines for our jets have been procured. I am beginning to get the feeling it was never ordered.

JF17 THUNDER!!! Tales of a storm that never came hmm. this has a nice ring to it. Lionel sign me up for your blog I think I am about to do some writing.

According to SIPRI Nigeria already acquired 3 RD-33 Turbofan engines from Russia in 2016. plus the JF-17 appeared in national budget alongside the 2 MI-35m (already delivered ), i think its a done deal to be honest. lets all leave speculations behind when solid facts have been presented before us.

personally I think the CDS is planning a big suprise, we all know how that man like induction ceremonies,i don't think he will sacrifice his precious jf17 induction ceremony for a MIG 29 that may not come during his tenor.

Yeah, Rooikat came out in the 1990's. The Bradley IFV is expected to serve until at-least 2035, probably into the 2040's.

I see no reason why we cannot get another 25 years out of the Rooikat, and upgrades arent that complex:

1. Powerpack - more potent, more efficient.
2. Better powerpack allows armor upgrade while maintaining current performance standards
3. Systems upgrades - basically just modernization packages for optics and substystems. The only new addition required would be netcentric warfare capabilities.
4. Ammunition - the development of over-pressure rounds and new kinetic-penetrators (tungsten alloys?) would improve anti-armor lethality. Conversy we could just stick an ATGM on the turret
5. [MORE IMPORTANT THAN #4] would be improved stabilization for the maingun - actually, I would put this at the top of the list.

Stick on RCWS on the turret with some good optics to boot and you have something that our children could be manning.

As for personal equipment... I think the army should start thinking about the push towards standardizing optics, or increasing the number of people in platoon who have weapon mounted optics. I have mixed feelings about the RPG-7V that we use

I would also like to see the introduction of a modular plate carrier system - something that can be "cut down" for long patrols in difficult conditions or "built up" for mechanised or urban conditions. The current design for the plate-Carriers or BPV we use are ageing very poorly. I think we should go the rout of the Russians with their 6sh112 - its and LBV like our Pat83 but its designed to integrate with both a light and medium plate carrier

Optimally though, I would like to see the adoption of a fully modular MOLLE based system that simultaniously fulls the role of an LBV and plate-carrier

I am thinking more VERTUS than Ratnik and the 6sh112

I agree 100% but ill like to add 1 thing an active protection system.........Like the LEDS150 as fitted to the Rooikat with the falcon turret.

True! There aren't many targets our Al Shabaab , BH, M 23 type enemies provide for 105 mm guns. Hence your rapid fire 60 mm Badger. Ideally it would be modular design allowing for a 23 mm 4 barrel and/or some ATGM s like a low end Terminator type vehicle.
Nope!! we don't do that.....Our vehicles are either fitted with either ATMGs, 30mm, or mortars, you'll never find a South African vehicle fitted with a 30mm AND 4 Atmgs like on the terminator or other vehicles, not our doctrine!!

Take it from me.....National budgets don't mean sh!t, in our 2014/15 budget we budgeted for light and medium patrol/tranport aircraft as well as vessels for project biro and hotel.......Only the later has seen slight progress, but the project was still deferred to 2019/20 year!!

I don’t work for PAC.
Many things are involved. the delays could be from the Pakistani side for all we know. Please don’t be narrow minded.

I for one do not believe the order has been cancelled, simply because your CAS didn't mention it in a speech. Seeing as SIPRI says the engines were ordered in 2016, and there's no indication they were supplied and transferred to Pakistan, the delay is entirely to be expected. Coupled with PAC's capacity to roll these off, and existing PAF orders, I would recommend patience.
