neighy:is it not football Mikel is playing that makes him a legend? Does that not make him a legend in football whether Nigerian or otherwise? I don't think anyone can mention Nigerian footballers without calling Mikel, it's JJ, Kanu, Mikel.... He's a legend in football, if you now want to start tagging which kind, na you sabi....but it is the same thing. You can't even mention top African footballers in this century without calling Mikel and you want to reduce his achievements. 9 Likes |

Loogan: @bolded said it all. Coach trust even if the dropped players are maradona and banging in goals right left and center in their various clubs. Al least, we saw trusted players like Gabriel, Uchebo, Ameobi, Nworfor etcetera went to the world cup because they were Keshi's most trusted players. |

tbaba1234: the fact was in that game against USA they were reduced to ten men in the first half and in that situation you do not introduce a striker at all, rather you even take out a striker to ensure stability. In the other games IIRC their coach was conservative. He hardly made any sub, the simple truth is that Ronaldo deserved his spot at that world cup |

chrisooblog: Kelechi Nwakali in camp training with the team has no way of detering the efforts of his team. We only have a gain of having a quality potential talent training with one of the best the country has produced. Giving him a chance to closely learn from him and gain valuable advice. I wonder why delaying such seems a better idea. |

GERMANY: Bundesliga - Round 7: Time: 2.30PM Nigerian Time Wolfsburg VS Mainz Victor Osimhen (Wolfsburg) and Leon Balogun (Mainz) are both available for selection. New Wolfsburg coach Martin Schmidt did not list Osimhen in their game against Bayern. He made an instant impact last week when his team came back strongly to gain a great point away to Bayern Munich (2-2). Schmidt only left Mainz as coach at the end of May so should have some good insight of Balogun and his teammates. 1 Like |

Joebie: In the final during the celebration, I remember the commentator saying some thing in the line of, "That is Ronaldo, he may be too young to participate in such a big event, but mark my words, few years from now, he will be the best player in the World." Ronaldo was not to play but learn. Was he good? Yes. Fortunately, he had the Brazilian league to also help nurture him. Something we do not have in our local league. Why not adopt something that also helped the quick transition. |

forgiveness: Rorh is an intelligent and experienced coach I think he knows more than you about the team. Which of the players he left out are banging on goals left right and center? Is ighalo not in better form than any striker we have presently? Moses, nwakeme(underrated guy), iwobi(before the injury), Moses Simon has been in the team and understand our system better than onyekuru. We don't understand the way these coaches think when it comes to building a team and selection, it's much more deeper. Just because onyekuru is banging in goals now dosent mean he will understand and give that work ethic and team strategy better than Moses Simon. 6 Likes |

Brazil has a history. Pele was 17 when he turned heads at the world cup level. Of the two things implied in that part of the link I quoted, one remains a fact -- Ronaldo deserved to make that team. The commentator according to you said, "he MAY be too young". I'm still waiting for someone to quote the coach as saying he never intended to field Ronaldo prior to that World Cup. I've said this before and I will say it again, many teams rarely field ALL the players in their World Cup squads. Top teams usually have a star studded sides. No player just makes the numbers, but at the same time it is guaranteed that not all will play. The coach will decide when the going goes tough or when the going is well. Modified It's natural to assume that he was there to learn because of his age. What would you say about other players were never pulled out of the bench? where they also there to learn? As long as Ronaldo did excellently prior to that world cup, he deserved to make that team. TheGoodJoe: 1 Like |

Lest we forget, the Coach's job is to assemble the best team to prosecute HIS plan, not the best players in every position. It is his prerogative to decide on formation, tactics and the right mix of players to deploy and no two people will deploy the same resources and tactics, otherwise football will be too predictable and there may no longer be need for human coaches in which case, we would find a robot which will collate all the stats available to assemble a team. 6 Likes |

You have just made a very good point! "The best player in every position" may not do justice to the way the coach PLANS to play. Besides, it's not like every player is restricted to playing just one position. As they say, football is not mathematics. What we need is an insight to Rohr's winning philosophy, then we can have a realistic input as to whether we think it would work, or we can suggest players that would best suit his plan. tglobal: |

Loogan: Of course, he knows his boys more than me. Of course, he left out Kayode who was banging in goals left right and center in the Austrian league before he later succumbed to pressure to hand him invitation. The invitation was to give him the chance to prove himself but Rohr never gave him that chance. Why? This was when he was in better form than all the strikers we have but why was he not invited then? Are Moses and Nwakaeme strikers? Is Onyekuru a striker? We understand how coaches work in Europe and other countries by extending invitations to players doing very well in their various clubs but we don't understand how it is done only in NIGERIA. 1 Like |
