forgiveness:is it athleticism our team does not have? You need to see Zambians crying about the assembly of kids their coach is gathering to battle men. Their team is just youth, ours is a combo of youth and experience, I get that some people here want us to tread with caution and all, but there is no need to make it look like we will be fielding hungry geriatrics against Zambia. There is nothing they have that we don't and then some 5 Likes |

nelszx:thank you. They did not win because they had coordination, they won because Algerians were lazy and failed to come to the party We beat the real Algerian team last year in Uyo, the team Zambia beat is a demoralized Algerian team and they became that thanks mostly to their defeat to us. Nobody should assume that if things were the other way around and Zambia had met Algeria last year, even with this team, they would have won. Algeria is crap now 4 Likes |

safarigirl:Algeria had like 3 scoring opportunities but were just playing to the fancy before Brahimi pulled one back. Even after the goal, they still fluffed so many chances to equalise the game before Zambia took it beyond their reach. Algeria won the MF over both legs just their finishing in the final third was very poor. Zambia who were just playing (ballooning) into opposition half from defence to attack and couldn't hold a pass for 2 minutes how then will they utilise such wing play. I'm not writing them off oo but I doubt these Zambians will worry Ezenwa on match day. If by HT they aren't 2 goals down then we can start pressing the panic button and applying caution in the game (so we don't see a repeat of the SA game). #SoarEaglesSoar 3 Likes |

forgiveness: Do you know that towards the end of the 2002 season, the Inter Milan fans turned on Ronaldo? I think Ronaldo was subbed with tears in his eyes in his last league game of Inter Milan after his poor performance caused Inter the title. Romario was brilliant that season and deserved a place in the Brazilian squad in that World Cup. Lots of Pundits, Past players, Coaches and fans criticised the unfair dropping of Romario. However, Scolari stuck to his philosophy and it paid off. He would have been crucified if Brazil failed. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: How many African footballer of the year did Yaya Toure win when he played as a DM for Barcelona? How many did he win when he played further up tor the pitch? If you can answer this question, then you might have a clue why playing as a DM is underwhelming for a technical player. |

goldfish80: It seems you have not read the past comments about this topic. Get the point. The role is underrated but very key because it takes a lot of hard work and brilliance to execute it. So trying to play down their abilities is just being part of those who lack the understanding of the challenge of the role. That role is a make or break position of the team. So Yaya Toure or Mikel playing there did not mean they lacked ability. It meant their importance and values were underrated. When given liberty like Keshi did with Mikel and Mancini/Pellegrini did with Yaya showed their abilities as Supernovae. |

TheGoodJoe: You haven't been reading what I have been saying either. From the on set I have said Mikel spent too much time playing in that unfancied role as the water carrier of Chelsea. He was constrained from expressing himself and this affected his ratings hence, the divisive opinion about his legendary and world class status. I haven't seen or read a non Nigerian player claiming Mikel is his role model. Most people who only saw him play for Chelsea will laugh you out of the room if you told them Mikel was skillful. Such was his role in Chelsea that he played like robot for them. |

goldfish80: You said the role is reserved for less technical players. I pointed Yaya and Mikel. They are gifted with creative abilities but sacrificed those for the team. Even players like Wanyanma and Busquets have brilliant creative abilities. However, due to their high intelligence, understanding of the game and sacrificial spirits, they are ready to play for the team to make the team florish. Those that look down on the role do not consider the other importance of the role. They might laugh when you say those guys are good and deserve praise because they lack understanding. Just like the SlObi crew who laughed at Mikel until Hiddink explained Mikel's style they criticised and called slow was beautiful. 2 Likes |

TheGoodJoe:Thanks thegoodjoe, this is my problem with Nigerians we don't appreciate our own. Keshi won Nations cup with a class, beating Cote d voire 2-1,Mali 4-1 wasn't an easy task and Burkina Faso 1-0,so nothing like fluke. Clemens Westerhoff despite his 5 years sojourn in Nigeria with good and tested players in Tunisia 94 ,d team could only beat Cote d voire through penalties and in d final oh my God highly tense 2-1 against Zambia. Samson Siasia silver winning 2008 Olympics team were not celebrated but Bonfrere Jo won Atlanta 96 with bunch of Super Eagles players like Uche Okechuckwu,Daniel Amokachie, Emma Amuneke,Sunday Olishe, Tijani Babangida,Victor Ikpeba,Taribo West,Kanu Nwankwo and was celebrated. Siasia didn't have half of this talented players in 2008 Olympic but people refused to appreciate him even our sport administrators. Keshi is an icon,a legend that Nigerians w never forget for his contributions to d growth of Nigeria football especially winning Afcon against all odds. 6 Likes 1 Share |

Mujtahida: Every player wants to make the World Cup squad either as a starter or as a bencher. His high level of commitment will count for him during the final selections. You recall why Oliseh appointed Ahmed Musa as captain? Because of his punctuality to camp and commitment. This type of commitment counts. 6 Likes |

enomakos:was Ondoa not a better goal keeper than the three we had? Did he not collect four despite that? Who has Mweene faced that makes him better? Did he face Messi or CR7? Or was he not the one that collected two from Alex and Kelechi and collected one from a Cameroonian player? We are not underrating anyone, but we should not insult our players to elevate others. Go to the Zambian page and see how Zambians are brimming with confidence that they will win us. Is it so wrong if we show the same level of faith in our players? 7 Likes |

Icon4s:Sincerely I'd love to see him play. Not necessarily because I am his fan but just so we can approximate his qualities, what he brings to the table. We are in the dark concerning him except the deductions we make judging him from his play at his club. World Cup has become something else oo. No player worthy of the name should miss it. If you watch the FIFATV series on Russia 2018 you will see old players recalling with so much heartfelt nostalgia their own experiences at the world cup. Not to talk of now when it has become a truly global fiesta. That's why we must be there oo |

Already made my comments as regards that role. The most important, but often unnoticed. Mikel was pivotal to Chelsea's successes. And that's for tactical minds. Many pages back I was of a different view. Of what good is it for me to be here in the first place, if after so many pages I still maintain the same view about everything. If I wasn't learning anything, I would have been long gone. Kog45: 2 Likes |

safarigirl:The confidence of the Zambians is instructive. If they can be so confident in a side that is really untested then I see no reason why we shouldn't be. In fact we've been quiet and restrained about our expectations perhaps because of the diceyness of the upcoming encounter while the Zambians have been so raucous to the extent of invading our page on Facebook. I really want Nigeria to win them at least 3-0. Although 1-0 will still be good enough. |
