Guy, I watched the original video in the 80s when he did it with his wife Lady Di. The mid 2000s video was a remixed version.

In the 1980s there were a lot of slogans in Nigeria about a magical year called 1990. The government promised "Shelter for all by 1990", "Food for all by 1990" and General Babangida said that he would hand over to a democratically elected civilian government in 1990. None of these promises came true. In 1988 Charly Boy sang this afro-beat song in response to these promises. He sang about how the government was out to trick Nigerians and how politicians were preparing to line their pockets.

Nwata Miss and this song below were the first two Charly Boy songs that I ever heard. He released them in the early 1980s, then in the late 1980s he released Big Bottom and 1990. I didn't know that he wasn't the one that originally sang the song. Now I've found the original, but I've been searching for Charly Boy's version since 2000 and I haven't found it yet. I'll be very grateful if anybody can connect me to Charly Boy's version of this funny song.

He started singing from his Oguta home then, and later migrated to Lagos where he exploded into national limelight by wearing all those belts and rings to promote his music. After 35 years on the entertainment scene, the guy is still relevant. Not an easy thing to accomplish. Now, his new movement have even thrust him more into national reckoning! He is a showbiz man to the core.

My favourite Charly Boy song from the 1980s is, of course, Big Bottom (I'm listening to the instrumental version right now). Unfortunately I still haven't been able to find the video or the full audio version. All I have is the instrumental.

That was during the days of the late Jake Sollo...Jake Sollo will be remembered as the grand father of music producers of modern afro pop. He died in a motor accident in his car returning from Charlie's Boy's Alpha Studio in Oguta. Died with him was Al Jackson Umunnakwe, an upcoming artist then.

Charlie was a big act then. "Big Bottom" was the craze.
