Same decision should be applied to other non-medical staff. Last I checked, this cuts across all disciplines and not restricted to medical doctors alone.

The government should as well ban every civil servant from having a private business. What applies to the goose should apply to the gander.

A government that is not paying salaries, so the same government expects a medical consultant, who is at the peak of his medical career to be at the mercy of its whims and caprices, and should not find an alternative veritable means of keeping body and soul together. The government is a joke.

This is one of the best policy if it can be implemented. Go to many government own hospital and see how many doctors you will see especially consultant. If there is any critical case the junior doctors or attendant will be one calling doctors to come and attend to the patient. How possible our hospital will be in a better position and how they will not be victimising government for strike. The policy should start with immediate effect.

This country's health system is about to fall apart completely! Private practice is the only consolation these guys have to the horrible state and working conditions of government hospitals.

If FG goes ahead with the ban, young doctors are leaving the country ministry of health is complaining, consultants and professors will leave too. Oh! I forgot, our president does not really care, his doctors are in London and I bet there's no single Nigerian among them.

Long overdue decisions ...Doctors are no longer effective in public hospitals and clinics, they refer patients to their private hospitals and clinics...whoever wants to go private should go and let us know those who want to remain in the public service

Expect the doctors to request for pay rise in move to frustrate the ban. But logically if they are well paid they wouldn't engage in any PP

Is it possible to Ban it? Many of them do it in secrecy,so it is almost impossible to detect such doctors, except the Whistle blowing act extends to defaulting doctors at well.
If they were well paid and we had enough doctors, it won't be an issue. Everything this government talks about is force force. Ban, arrest etc. Some of those practices are even in d interest of d common man. I am not against d idea. Makes sense. But are they well paid?

They might die, do you how terrible these government hospitals are and how these health workers generally especially resident doctors are treated? During ebola virus time, there was no single drop or flu water in the pediatrics ward of one of the largest government hospital in the country a d the doctors still had to work. Have you seen surgeons doing surgery with torches? I personally know a doctor who was owed 11months salary and she was the only doctor attending to patients in a primary health center in one of the southwestern states.

Doctors in pediatrics and neuro surgery unit doing one week call(it means they work the whole week no going home) and after one evil government will refuse to pay them.

A health minister once said it is only in nigeria that public hospital pays better salary than private hospital.
So, the problem is not salary, it is selfishness.
