EARLY TEAM NEWS: LIVERPOOL V UNITED Manchester United may be without three key midfielders for Saturday's hugely anticipated Premier League clash against Liverpool. Paul Pogba has been missing since the influential Frenchman was withdrawn in the first half of the 3-0 Champions League victory over Basel on 12 September, with Jose Mourinho later confirming his absence would be "long term". Club captain Michael Carrick has missed the last two games through injury and Marouane Fellaini is also expected to be sidelined for the trip to Anfield after being hurt on international duty, with Belgium boss Roberto Martinez stating the midfielder sustained knee ligament damage in the first half of their 4-3 win over Bosnia last Saturday. Mourinho confirmed it is unlikely Fellaini will face Liverpool and Ander Herrera is one contender to feature alongside Nemanja Matic, but the boss feels his squad is strong enough to cope with injuries and insists he has every faith in all of his players. "From what I read, I don't think he [Fellaini] can play the match," Mourinho said. "Another one plays and it's no problem for me. Not just Ander. We trust every player. We lost players last season and we lost players this season. With our way of thinking and feeling, it really is no problem. "One player not playing means another one plays. It's an opportunity for another one and we trust them. We never hide behind this or that player or this or that injury. We trust the ones that are going to play.".. Fellaini's fellow countryman Romelu Lukaku missed the Bosnia game with an ankle injury but scored as a substitute on his return to action in Tuesday's 4-0 win over Cyprus in Brussels in their final World Cup qualifier. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether Phil Jones will take his place in the United defence after withdrawing from the England squad with an injury. In total, 14 players left the club to represent their countries in World Cup qualifiers, with Sergio Romero the last to take to the pitch as 2014 runners-up Argentina sealed a place in Russia with a 3-1 win in Ecuador in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Fellow Argentinian Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be absent once again as they continue their recoveries from serious knee injuries. Mourinho could provide further updates on how his squad is shaping up during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, Liverpool will be without top scorer Sadio Mane, who is facing up to six weeks on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury on international duty. The forward was substituted late on in Senegal's 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over the Cape Verde Islands last weekend. Jurgen Klopp's side also look set to be without defenders Nathaniel Clyne and Dejan Lovren with back problems, while influential midfielder Adam Lallana has reportedly visited a specialist in Qatar to step up his rehabilitation from a thigh injury he suffered in pre-season. Brazilian duo Phillipe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino faced a long journey back to Merseyside after featuring in their country's 3-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Chile in the early hours of Wednesday morning. United, who are joint-top of the Premier League with Manchester City, will be looking to continue our impressive start to the campaign in the first top-flight game after the international break on Saturday (kick-off 12:30 BST). |

larride: Because he and Firminho might not have enough time to rest after their game vs Chile in the early hrs of Wednesday morning b4 traveling from Brazil to England. Given the distance between the two countries, I'd say that they only have like a day to rest and prepare for Manutd on Saturday by 12:30pm. |

pharod: South American teams played qualifiers on the 5 and 6th of sept, on the 9th the players were on the pitch again for a hot afternoon kickoff with Firminho, Bravo, Moraes, Otamendi, Fernadinho, Gabriel Jesus, Aguero playing in the Man City vs Liverpool game. You don't bench your best players even if they arrived on the eve of the game. |

"If a young boy like Marcus, all of a sudden, jumps onto the scene at 18, he has all these things going on. The analysis work you have got to do, watching videos, you have to do your recovery with the sports science team. "It's about how to cope with down time too as there is a lot of travelling and time spent in hotels. It's about having a coping mechanism. "It is all new to them and it can be eye-opening. It's hard enough purely at the first-team football level but they've got all this stuff they have got to deal with." - Nicky Butt |

"They must get their mind in gear as well and it's hard. They need to do little bits along the way so by the time they do get in the first team, it's all higher up. "But the more they get into it, the impact and input of different aspects of the club, makes the transition a lot easier. "It's always great seeing a youngster come through the Academy and make his debut. But it's just the start for them. The easy part is getting there, the hard part is staying there." - Nicky Butt |
