The kind of news you dont really hear but you know its happening: http://www.newsweek.com/trumps-presidency-only-10-months-old-and-new-data-his-airstrikes-alarm-684084 Not about Trump but more about how the US military has been killing and wiping out entire families in their ISIS bombing campaign "When President Donald Trump took office in January, it was unclear whether the bombast from his campaign would translate into an aggressive new strategy against terrorism. At campaign rallies he pledged to “bomb the hell” out of the Islamic State militant group (ISIS). He openly mused about killing the families of terrorists, a blatant violation of the Geneva Conventions, which prohibits violence against noncombatants. Ten months into his presidency, a clearer picture is emerging. The data indicate several alarming trends. According to research from the nonprofit monitoring group Airwars, the first seven months of the Trump administration have already resulted in more civilian deaths than under the entirety of the Obama administration. Airwars reports that under Obama’s leadership, the fight against ISIS led to approximately 2,300 to 3,400 civilian deaths. Through the first seven months of the Trump administration, they estimate that coalition air strikes have killed between 2,800 and 4,500 civilians. Researchers also point to another stunning trend—the “frequent killing of entire families in likely coalition airstrikes.” In May, for example, such actions led to the deaths of at least 57 women and 52 children in Iraq and Syria. The vast increase in civilian deaths is not limited to the anti-ISIS campaign. In Afghanistan, the U.N. reports a 67 percent increase in civilian deaths from U.S. airstrikes in the first six months of 2017 compared to the first half of 2016....." So now, who's gonna tell on the US military viz a viz their human rights record? 5100 - 8900 civilian deaths, gosh! |

newafricaken254: Trust me, robots are not going to war not anytime soon. See, it's much easier to create a digital robot and place it in a digital simulator. It can navigate the whole digital world with easy because it wouldn't need sensors.... As for military vehicles, that's decades away, billions of dollars would be spent to make it a reality. A vehicle would need some advanced GPS (not the standard that's off the mark by 3m), laser sensors, infrared, sound weaves (you name it) just to navigate. If it gets frequency blocked then it can't access the GPS then it's lost and it can't get commands from home.... So what would happen? It would have to rely on it's onboard algorithm to fight its way out provided the UN allows people to be autonomously killed by machines. 1 Like |

Nok234:The fact it is locally manufactured means that even if it is more expensive than foreign ones, the benefits it provides for the Nigerian economy cannot be quantified. In terms of protection, it is the best MRAP in the inventory of the Nigerian army. As for mobility, that's hard to say until those specifications become available. Off-course you don't expect an MRAP to do tight turns like a Ferrari, i'm sure it will perform brilliantly during tests. |

jakeporeshenko:The material used inside, what sort of material is that? If the army could just do like 550 PF ARA vehicles and 700 PF2's over the next 7 - 10 years, that would be very fantastic!!!

Patented SuperShield ballistic protection by local vessel manufacturer Nautic Africa ensures safety of crew in recent pirate attack off coast of Nigeria A 35m Sentinel patrol vessel, designed and built by Cape Town shipyard Nautic Africa (a Paramount Group company), withstood a pirate attack off the coast of Nigeria at the end of September this year, thanks to its high levels of ballistic protection that secured the safety of the crew and ensured the uninterrupted operation of the vessel. The vessel and crew succeeded in thwarting an ambush attempt by pirates who attacked the vessel from the front armed with AK-47s. Proving that the 35m Sentinel patrol vessel is properly armoured for its task, the crew managed to escape the attack unscathed. "The demand for fast, rugged and highly ballistic protected vessels is particularly strong among African countries on the east and west coasts that are affected by incidents of piracy, drug trafficking, oil theft and/or illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing as well as other illicit offshore activities," says James Fisher, executive chairman of Nautic Africa, explaining their design teams work closely with clients to ensure the vessels meet their specific needs. "Ballistic protection has become a must in many African markets in order to guarantee the safety of the crew and passengers," says Fisher, who adds that Nautic pioneered the use of ballistic protection in the oilfield support market. "We have invested substantially in providing market-leading capabilities in this area. "We are particularly grateful that one of our vessels met and delivered the required protection for crew who are susceptible to the dangers of these areas," he says. "Nautic Africa is very confident in the knowledge these security vessels, which are manufactured using the lifesaving ‘SuperShield' composite structure, will provide significant ballistic support from AK-47 gunfire. Nautic Africa's STANAG Level 1 Ballistic Protection is standard on all platform security vessels." The vessels are primarily used for security and transfer of crew and cargo off the coast of Nigeria, and can also be used for various other roles such as dive support, environmental protection and, because of their versatility and adaptability, are able to conduct diverse operations and deal with a number of threats within a country's exclusive economic zone. At the time of design, the Nautic Africa team undertook extensive research and development to ensure they delivered the best possible product. The vessel is constructed with 5083 aluminium plates, while the bridge is fitted with Nautic's patented SuperShield Ballistic Structure. This provides protection against small arms, such as AK-47 rifles favoured by seaborne criminals. Nautic's in-house design capability allows for greater levels of customisation on new builds to suit specific clients, and the shipyard is committed to developing a support network on the continent. http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=49558&Itemid=106&catid= 1 Like

frumentius: Exactly what I said. You can't trust GPS and external communication. The solution is easy, you pre-feed the vehicle with an offline 3D map. Then use algorithm and live sensors to compensate for the latest changes that may have occurred on the map. Now the biggest challenge would be the live sensors, they may need to be able to 3D render the landscape (including vegetation and buildings) in high definition at a long distance in order for the vehicle to make an informed navigation decision. I personally know no sensor that can render such high level data at that range and be mobile. Then you'll have to setup data storage inside the vehicle which would equate to a Hollywood server alongside it's cooling system..... God forbid it doesn't run on AMD graphics cards and processors because I tell that thing will be a hot infrared target at 15km. 1 Like |

Henry240:It is needed Henry .I used to agree with that line of thinking till. I saw an African post a photshopped Blackman in a waffen SS uniform and a thinly veiled attempt to salute the Nazis. We got complacent about Ecomog and look what happened some @$% hole wrote a book and started laying claim to how he single handedly ended the war. Nigerians when we leave the shores of Nigeria don't beat our chest because we don't want to be the overbearing big brother from Africa. Sierra Leone , Liberia, and even Somalia. The danger sometimes is complacency and people rewriting History to their benefit. 3 Likes |
