The Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer announced today, Oct. 16, a firm order for six A-29 Super Tucano light attack and advanced training aircraft from an undisclosed customer. The aircraft can be used for tactical and advanced training as well as light attack and ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) missions. Deliveries will be concluded in 2018. Embraer lands firm order for six Super Tucano light attack and training aircraft 640 001Embraer's A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft (Credit: Embraer) After more than ten years in service, the A-29 Super Tucano has gained an excellent performance record: over 320,000 flight hours and nearly 40,000 combat hours. With more than 150 weapons configurations certified, the A-29 Super Tucano is equipped with advanced electronic, electro-optic, infrared and laser system technologies, as well as secure radio systems with data links and unrivalled munitions capacity. Embraer's Super Tucano CAS & training aircraft has been scoring major sales successes during the last two years. The most recent is most certainly the potential $593 mn FMS the DSCA approved in August 2017 for 12 twelve A-29s. According the DSCA, they will be used by Nigeria to combat the Islamist militia Boko Haram and other extremist groups, such as the Islamic State West Africa splinter group. Ghana also announced intention to procure six new A-29 Super Tucano aircraft during Paris Air Show 2015. https://www.airrecognition.com/index.php/archive-world-worldwide-news-air-force-aviation-aerospace-air-military-defence-industry/global-defense-security-news/global-news-2017/october/3802-embraer-lands-firm-order-for-six-super-tucano-light-attack-and-training-aircraft.html

lionel4power: Comment of the day It's an African thingy, SSA politicians never stop to amaze. My business often render services to the state. I remember my municipality setting up the "Bring Back Our Girls" campaign. They threw a big galla event with all sorts of very important people talking all kinds of diplomatic words. In my mind was "does Boko Haram even care, it's just a waste of time and state money"... But I personally laughed all the way to the bank. |
