The Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer announced today, Oct. 16, a firm order for six A-29 Super Tucano light attack and advanced training aircraft from an undisclosed customer. The aircraft can be used for tactical and advanced training as well as light attack and ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) missions. Deliveries will be concluded in 2018.

After more than ten years in service, the A-29 Super Tucano has gained an excellent performance record: over 320,000 flight hours and nearly 40,000 combat hours. With more than 150 weapons configurations certified, the A-29 Super Tucano is equipped with advanced electronic, electro-optic, infrared and laser system technologies, as well as secure radio systems with data links and unrivalled munitions capacity.

Embraer's Super Tucano CAS & training aircraft has been scoring major sales successes during the last two years.

The most recent is most certainly the potential $593 mn FMS the DSCA approved in August 2017 for 12 twelve A-29s. According the DSCA, they will be used by Nigeria to combat the Islamist militia Boko Haram and other extremist groups, such as the Islamic State West Africa splinter group.

Ghana also announced intention to procure six new A-29 Super Tucano aircraft during Paris Air Show 2015.

Slightly off topic, but not by much seeing how everyone is on the tacticool! I saw this pic of the 13 Para Dragoon Regt of the French Specops Bgde, one of the oldest fighting units in the world formed in 1676. Originally dragoons, horse mounted infantrymen they morphed into an armoured corps pre WW2 to their present specops unit in the early 50s.
Anyway the pic is a masterpiece of camo! How many dragoons are in that pic?

I posted this on ToT but its relevant showing the power of advertising-up is down, crap is chocolate cake and vice versa while the truth is turned inside out. Look at the Beretta 92. It was too delicate for the real world and yet was chosen as the official US sidearm back in the 80s. Finally its on the way out! This 9 milly replaced the 7 decade long .45 for political reasons. Italy insisted it was their price for continued US bases on their land. Frankly, the pistol also had shocking reliability issues:
In a 2006 report on U.S. infantry weapon reliability, the M92 scored at the bottom compared to the M4 carbine, M16 rifle, and M249 squad automatic weapon. In every category, from handling to accuracy to maintainability, the M92 came in dead last—or tied for last. Twenty-six percent of soldiers polled reported their weapon jammed while shooting at the enemy. Forty-six percent reported they didn't have confidence in their pistol's reliability.

Dayummmmm..you literally take your life in your hands shooting at bad guys with a 92. Its no surprise Deltas,SEALS and Marine force recon still use the original 1911 .45 which was universally agreed to be reliable with excellent stopping power.

The modular Sig 320 shown here will now be the US armed forces side arm. It can be interchanged with 9mm and .40.

What kind of stupid talk is this? What do you mean by Igbo men and dirty politics? Is dirty politics now exclusive to Igbo men?

Truvelo should check who they sell their rifles to. I was disgusted at Truvelo when I saw a video of a crying kid being removed a bullet fired from Truvelo rifle. Truvelo sold those things to Gaddafi whom he used against civilians.

There were no sanctions against Libya when Truvelo sold them those rifles. Everybody was selling them arms.

SA granted licence for Black Hornet Nano Drone

Following the acquisition of Proxdynamics, the Norwegian designer of the Black Hornet, by Flir Systems, South Africa is one of only two countries in Africa to which the Black Hornet Nano Drone may be exported. The other country is Algeria.

The system will only be available to military, police and government clients in South Africa, with local support and training.

Desert Wolf Consulting represents Flir Government Systems in southern Africa. The first demonstration system is already in the country and Desert Wolf will launch the Black Hornet PD-100 in South Africa during October.

very effective for CASO

would be very useful if these could be used to place 'markers' on tangos and vehicles,

loosing the marks would then be a tad difficult eh grin

especially from the perspective of civilian intelligence ops

I would prefer to see movement in terms of battalion and brigade level drones.

Those little civilian quad-copter drones have proven to be infinity effective in Syria - imagine what actual professional soldiers could do with them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZc5J2Rv7xQ <--- TFW a civilian militia commander is sitting back in his HQ, watching an armored platoon assault enemy positions, in real-time.

But gotta take what we can, I guess.
