Awo is an APPLICATION, a PROPHET and GOD in his own Right. A Prophet doesn't care to deliver spiritual message without fear or favour. Jesus never bothered being caught for His Actions. The case of rat poison was just speculation. Ojukwu was quoted that Awo was The President Nigeria never had. Awo was Gowon's, Babangida's and Muritala's hero. The Fulanis had always had plans to handle Awo's ambitions negatively, because they feared him and couldn't cope with Awo's Intelligence. And so it was Buhari and Idiagbon that sought to humiliate Awo in 1984. 1 Like |

orisa37: We are discussing Awo's controversies here not wether he was God. His own bossom men narrated how where and why he committed suicide not Igbos. They also implied he was corrupt not Igbos. So why don't u attack them instead you are attacking Igbos. Does that make sense to u? 2 Likes 1 Share |

Igbo's and lies are like 5&6. They have taken lies from business sense to political propaganda. I wonder what kind of indoctrination their elders passed down to them. Awolowo was no match for Zik and Tafawa Balewa. Zik was a stupid leader who could neither learn from history, happenings in the now, and hence lacked sense of direction. The other was just a religious bigot. The legacies of the trio still speak. What has Zik left for Igbo nation? Confusion. Identity crisis. It is on record that Awolowo suggested a clause of cessation if union of constituent parts of Nigeria didn't work out within 25 years any aggrieved party could go having learned from history how the Fulani jihadist wanted to 'dip the Qur'an into the sea.' The wars Yoruba fought with jihadists in Ilorin, Igbajo etc. Blind Zik refused to see. He, Awo, understood the evil of oligarchy in the north. He opted for opposition. This Yoruba played in his life time until now that SW actively participate in a central government for a purpose not yet realized - restructuring. Yes, he practised tribal politics. He was a leader, primarily of his people. He was a learned person, one of the few in his time. He saw tomorrow through the eyes of knowledge. He took his own ignorant people from pursuing blind leaders. He embarked on mass literacy campaign. One of attributes of great leadership is foresight and vision. Zik became the fist president and Balewa the PM.Next two military heads of state were Igbo's l. They wanted Igbo dynasty. Hausa resisted them and have since subdued Igbo's,What followed thereon to Igbo race was an avoidable civil war that killed many innocent Nigerians and decimated Biafrans. Awo led his own people to be self reliant and focused. He intervened to keep the friendship of Hausa - Igbo alliance alive. The war was won losing many Yoruba's, his own people! Today, disgruntled, Ill - informed Igbos would write lies about Awo. The would whin woes they befell them to the hears of Awo who should be resting in peace also disturbing on media his people who never for once complained about Zik or Balewa. What do Igbo's actually want from Awo or Yoruba's? Fight for a directionless people of no known descent? People of not clear identity or direction? I beg let Awo rest in peace and his people live in peace. Biko. 6 Likes |

MightySparrow: But this thread is about Awo's controversies not Zik or Igbos. Zik was not an Igbo leader so he didn't have to.do anything for Igbos. He was ZIK OF AFRICA not Zik of Igbos. He was an African.leader.and that's what he set out to be. So, back to the topic. Do u think Awo was corrupt? If not, why not. The story of his suicide told by his own supporters seems very believable to me. Google it. Do u think he promised Ojukwu secession? Do u think he.wanted.to.starve Igbos? Gowon's promise? And so.on. That's what THIS thread is about. Try to focus on.that. 2 Likes |

MightySparrow: Like I've said several times, Awo is a great man. Whoever doesn't believe so is not being sincere. But in this thread we are looking at controversies attached to him, the basis for those controversies, and pros and cons as to whether they are justified. That's enough for one thread. You should post your views and arguments on that for the record. Also, as moderator, I'm obligated to unequivocally condemn your hateful bigoted language. |

Ofemannnu: As moderator I am obligated to unequivocally condemn your hateful bigoted language. But why don't you use your time productively by saying things that make a bit of sense. Everybody knows Igbos are not slaves - neither are Yorubas. So why waste your time saying it. In this thread we are looking at controversies attached to Awo, the basis for those controversies, and pros and cons as to whether they are justified. That's enough for one thread. It would be a more productive use of your time to post your views and arguments on those for the record. |

WetinConsignMe: Thanks for your observation and correction. You have demonstrated more of maturity than I. I wrote from the point view of anger with some who write all manner of bad things about Awo. A times such write up could be provocative. I did know you were not among those who could write or contribute hateful things about others. I am deeply sorry for that, biko, joor, yankuri. |

MightySparrow: Oh, of course I understand. Comments on NL can provoke beyond measure if you let them. But you know these things are already in public domain. All it takes is access to Google. The more you seem to be trying to sweep them under the rug, the more odious and sinister they seem. The best thing is to air them out and add your own two cents. Besides Awo is too interesting a topic anyway. You'll never be able to stop people talking about him. |

So we are now at #5. Here it is: 5) That Awo promised Ojukwu personally, and later said publicly, that the West would secede if Biafra seceded. Well, it depends on how u interprete what Awo said publicly and whether u believe what he was said to have said to Ojukwu and to others privately. My own take is that Awo was in no shape to be leading a secession. He just got out of jail, he needed some rest and probably money, plus he was surrounded by northern soldiers who were closely monitoring him. Plus he was not military with an army at his command like Ojukwu. Plus the few senior Yoruba military officers were one-Nigeria. As to whether he made the promise at all, here are what were said by various people and by Awo himself: TO BE CONT'D masseratti, 9jaDoc, T9ksy, giftq, Ovamboland, oladeebo, Dedetwo raumdeuter, VillageWinch, Leez, fergie001, PenSniper, GhanaMustGoo, PrecisionFx, Ofemannnu IJOBA2, CaptainJeffry, DanseMacabre, tawa89, GoldNiagara, AlPeter, Blue3k, Justiceleague1, Nalikedis diadem10, logica, vivere, CeterisXVII, Uglyojuku, orisa37 lawani, omonnakoda, zenmaster, koladebrainiac, Michael004, SHAKABOOM |

Nigeria problems weak person,we have been unfortunate to have leaders who think about family, tribe and religion first before the welfare of the country. I wasn't there but from aggregation of history, Awolowo went for his tribe and his family, who still benefits from Govt today. Ahmadu Bello was all about his Fulani tribe and dominance on other tribes. Azikiwe was for his family and only his family. Looking at all this 3,none thought about Nigeria,so first and foremost with the generational shift, let us think about Nigeria, that is my humble and honest opinion. |
Re: 10 Awolowo Controversies: Are They Justifiable? by GhanaMustGoo: 6:23pm On Oct 22, 2017 |
fergie001: Beg.to disagree. Zik was different. Very different. His main.focus was.trully freeing Africa from imperialism. Remember he also fought for.Ghana But I also think it was because his life was in the West and he spoke all three languages. He didn't want to be suddenly living in a foreign country. That's why he was for one forever-united Nigeria, with no chance of secession of any.part. |

fergie001: You, my man, are a Danite (or DANite) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ **Danites are members of DAN (Detribalised Association of Nigeria) **We Danites try to see individuals for what they are, not tribe. ** We try to see people as human beings, as individuals, not groups or tribes. We are too big to be just tribe. We see ourselves as human beings, as black people, as Africans, as NIGERIANS, then, way down the list, tribe. **We make posts against tribal bigotry and hatred and posts supporting detribalization and unity of Nigeria. While seeking solutions for her innumerable problems, we encourage love for our beloved country, Nigeria, and we encourage inter-tribal connections and cooperation. **Other than these core values, any other views expressed by any Danite are his own views and do not reflect the views of any other Danite. **DAN is not on the side of any person, group, or party. |

WetinConsignMe: Honestly, that's the truth, they set the foundations of the hate,my generation has promoted. Why should I fill religion on my civil service form? Why should I say I will never marry igbo or Yoruba, etc? We have not learnt,it hurts me that our institutions are fancy, because we see supposed literates promoting this nonsense. When politicians frolick with one another, they do not remember tribe or religion. Once they fall out, they now remind us and the painful part is that "fellow cheap articles" will join them in this rendezvous of craze. How much shall I pay for my freedom? Institutions of cohesion like the NOA,NYSC,etc have been bastardised. As a country,we must return to basics. The North is not our problem. We are OUR problem. 1 Like |
