Highest Paid Professionals And Most Lucrative Profession In Nigeria by swiftycool(m): 5:51am On Jun 09, 2010 |
Many years ago and even till recently many parents were bent on forcing their kids to study certain popular courses at university to become successful professionals in life. We were used to people boasting about their admission or training in professions like Law, medicine and engineering. However today in present day Nigeria, many Lawyers seem to be so broke earning a miserable sum a year, doctors fight so much so often to prove they are worthy of a good salary which is constantly under review, most engineers are now in our banks trying to make a living and so are many others who studied philosophy, pharmacy, quantity surveying and even yoruba. Business administrators are mostly in the course to end up as traders, accountants are trying but i know just a few very successful ones and so on and so forth So which profession today do you believe still lives up to its name today earning big bucks, stays professional, can be established individually and not easy to break into by just anybody. If u think yours is so special and strictly still professional lets talk welcome 2 Likes 1 Share |

It is Engineering in the Oil and Gas industry. Very hard to break in, but once you're in, then you're game. 3 Likes |

Superbrain:I believe real professionals are those that can set up on their own, embark on a project plan and complete it with their knowledge and expertise not those who go to sell their lifetime for a salary and once they lose their jobs become a nuisance to family and society. We have many here in the UK who came by HSMP or Student visas. Now do u think this above really falls into the said category |

Osama10:Heeyah, are you saying as an Engineer u aint gunning for job satisfaction and good money in your profession that u prefer bunkering, fraud and kidnaping?!! This is serious! |
Re: Highest Paid Professionals And Most Lucrative Profession In Nigeria by Superbrain(m): 6:31am On Jun 09, 2010 |
@ swiftycool, that's your opinion. But you should be able to differentiate between professionalism and entrepreneurship. It is not easy practising as an engineer in the Oil and Gas industry. Getting in takes a lot. One must first need to have stellar academic performance, relevant internship experience and a demonstrated commitment to duty. The remuneration is very good and there is job security as you would have proved yourself during the recruitment stage. So, I think the profession is still something to aspire to though one would need a clear focus at an early stage in the career. Awareness about prospects in this industry and with strong ties can have a great impact on one's career. 1 Like |

Architecture is da bomb! I started earning the sensible bucks in Architecture way back in my second year at UNI, i made mad money from model making, from draughting, 3D presentation and rendering that i never had to ask for school fees from home. I started designing and pursuing building and planning approval since 3oolevel for about N70k to N100k a package sand was able to move into my own apartment and start a transport bizness. Now we have CAD and other areas of specialising and marketing, stuff just keep getting better and better. i now design and supervise projects for people all over the world from my bedroom and watch my expertise and account grow. Its very difficult to become an architect though, all those sleepless nites and discouragements but if u do the time and put the dedication the sky is yr limit. Architects with the right idea and in the right place are the most successful professionals doing what they love and getting rewarded 4 it. gbam 4 Likes |

chakula:There is no proposed salary increase in actual sense, the president only resolved the issue of relativity in the public service, which has resulted in distortion in the salaries of different cadres in the civil service and public service. The president said that the distortions in pay relativity in the public service had been addressed and based on this, the new salary scale would take effect from July 1, 2010. The misinformation about an increased minimum wage being spread about by the media is due to his miscomprehended Speech by our olodo journalists. I mean is this English really that hard?! We are educated c'mon visit for more info http://www.tribune.com.ng/index.php/front-page-news/6141-fg-dashes-workers-hope Coming to your question as per the increase reaching banks; except the bank is owned by the federal govt and it consists of civil servant of between level10 to 17, Am afraid the above does not apply, hope your query is satisfied |

On a serious note, I don't know about highest paid, as that's not standardized in most of Africa. But I would say the most lucrative profession in Nigeria is accounting. The Guardian did a survey some years back, and accountants topped the list of most wanted employees, followed by commissioned salesmen/business developers. Engineers came a distant third 1 Like |

I agree with u swiftycool, the most lucrative job is the job that belongs to u. Where all ur sweat falls and the dough rises. How sucessful ur buz is, depends on what u put into it. Those of us still working 7 to 7, 7 days in a week are just plain dumb. |

See this guy! Are u sure u live in Nigeria? Don't tell me only the course one studies gives him or her good job these days! Multi-wetin? Abeg, talk something else. Do u know the number people who are employed yearly by these multinationals through signed complimentary cards of some big shots irrespective of the course they have studied? Just go to university and obtain a degree, that's all; whether Yoruba or Hausa 2 Likes |
