Oasis007:I would say it's all about the credibility. There are stories from OGN that are credible, though not much. We just have to exercise discretion. I especially like how Joebie has gone about it. And each one can adopt his style. Don't be carried away by the headlines, read the body of the articles. Are there quotes? If no, discard. If yes, are the quotes all from unnamed sources? If yes, it's mostly made up and should be discarded. It's not just OGN, it applies to all news websites carrying Nigerian Football news. Truth is that, in terms of sheer coverage of Nigerians in leagues around the world, Joebie's is better than most. And why not, the internet is there for all to monitor what happens all over the globe. Even the analysis here can compete with any anywhere in the country. 4 Likes |

Mickael2:I want Shehu to be tested against a rampaging winger. I'd also love to see Aina play at RB. But since the idea now is to use inverted wingers who like to cut in and use their preferred stronger foot, don't you think using inverted full backs will soon be in vogue? |

I'd get your Point Bro, but since it's apparent OGN ain't a credible Source, then it's better to discard any Information from them, and never share it on this Forum. I'm one 100% sure they are visiting this Thread as well, and kinda satisfied reading their Stories on this noble Forum. Ola Aina: The Nigerian Cesar Azpilicueta Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho readily comes to mind when the next generation of Nigerian stars are mentioned or thought of. Both players, over the last two seasons or so, have shown enough to encourage the Nigerian fans to believe the future remains bright, even as they continue to prove themselves in the present. But one player who rarely gets mentioned when the new generation of stars are talked about is Ola Aina, on loan at Hull City from Chelsea. Maybe it has to do with the fact he has only recently completed his switch of allegiance to Nigeria from England, and only made his debut in the 1-0 win over Zambia earlier this month. What is there to expect from him? Aina was an 80th minute replacement for Elderson Echiejile in that match, and despite playing for just over 10 minutes, the 21-year old showed enough composure to give assurances of his quality. But what is there to expect from him, really? His biggest asset yet has to be his versatility. Not too many fullbacks in world football can seamlessly and effectively play across both flanks, and while being naturally right-footed, Aina can comfortably play at left back, which he did when he replaced Elderson this month in Uyo, in that World Cup qualifier. At first glance, and when his team is in possession and trying to play the forward pass, what you notice is his bursting run forward. But he is not just about making that forward run, he offers a very solid defensive cover for his teams. This season, he has averaged 1.67 successful tackles per game, equal to Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta. He has also averaged 2.17 successful interceptions per game, more than Azpilicueta’s 1.22 this term, although he has played three more league games than the Spaniard. These days, Azpilicueta plays at the right of a back three for Chelsea, but he was signed as a full back by the Blues, and played there (predominantly as a left back, despite being right-footed and a natural right back) up until last season, when Antonio Conte switched to a 3-4-3 formation. Why he should be compared to the Chelsea star But it is clear to see that just like Aina, Azpilicueta’s versatility stands him out amongst the Chelsea defenders. And often, fans would love to compare prodigies with a former player who excelled in the same position. So when Aina starts getting regular games for the Super Eagles, it would not be surprising to see him compared to the likes of Austin Eguavoen or Ben Iroha or Celestine Babayaro (depending on the flank he plays more often), but the truth is, he would need not look that far to find his inspiration. He would only need a trip back to Chelsea’s Cobham training ground to see his inspiration in Azpilicueta. Written by Chris Oguguo www.o-posts.com/teams/uk/chelsea/ola-aina-azpilicueta/ 4 Likes |

Nigeria: We Are Not Afraid of Messi, Aguero, Others - Eagles Coach Lionel Messi Super Eagles coach, Yusuf Salisu Yusuf has allayed fears about the upcoming friendly between Nigeria and Argentina, insisting that the Jorge Sampaoli-led side are not unbeatable if only the Super Eagles can put up a phenomenal showing on the day. The two-time World champions, would square off against the Super Eagles in Krasnodar, Russia for a friendly billed on the 14th of next month, as a warm-up game before the World Cup year turns out. Argentina coach, Jorge Sampaoli is expected to field the likes of Lionel Messi of Barcelona), Sergio Aguero of Manchester City), Dybala of Juventus, Sergio Romero (Manchester United) and Angel Di María (PSG). "The Super Eagles are equal to the task anytime, anywhere." "We are not afraid of big names because big names no longer play football. But talent and determination are the essential keys in winning matches," he said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja. Before taking on Argentina though, the Super Eagles would round up their World Cup qualification series with a dead-rubber against group basement team, Algeria. allafrica.com/stories/201710290013.html 1 Like |

Does Alex Iwobi need to be a goalscorer to be a success? By Dan Critchlow- Oct 28, 2017 After two goals in the space of a week won Alex Iwobi a lot of favour with fans of Arsenal and Nigeria, we’re looking at whether goals are necessary for the 21-year-old to be an important part of the Gunners’ first-team. Before I get started, I think I need to point out that obviously an Iwobi scoring goals is better than one that isn’t. Just as Nacho Monreal is better when he’s scoring, or Jack Wilshere. When players do the job they’re in the team to do, and then score goals as well, that’s the ideal situation. Arsène Wenger seemed to agree with this sentiment in a recent interview. He told his Brighton post-match press conference (via ESPN):“A player like him must score 10 goals, and he must as well give between six and 10 assists, and that’s what I want from him. “He is the kind of player who has good availability, helps you a lot to get out of pressure and creates spaces. But what you want from him is final balls and goals as well.” Adding goals would be a welcome addition to Alex’s game, so if Wenger can push him to convert more chances, that’s clearly a good thing. However, I wouldn’t drop Nacho or Jack if they didn’t score, and although Iwobi plays a forward role, I think he always has a part to play, scoring or not. Iwobi contributes a lot more to the team than just goals and assists, and I think that’s something often overlooked by fans. After the goal against Brighton, and then the goal that qualified Nigeria for the World Cup against Zambia, Iwobi drew praise from fans on social media, with the added qualification that he has to keep scoring now. But I’m not sure he does ‘have to’. Personally I’d play him either way. Last season, when Arsenal were at their best, before the Everton and Manchester City matches, Iwobi had only scored one goal in 10 matches, and yet the team were unbeaten in all 10. Against Chelsea, in the third match of that run, Iwobi didn’t score or assist, but won man-of-the-match as the Gunners ran out 3-0 winners. Whilst he wasn’t the one scoring or providing the goals, he was facilitating the play. For Theo Walcott’s goal, Iwobi found space behind the midfield and collected the ball from Özil. He played a one-two with the German, then executed a through-ball behind the defence for Hector Bellerín, who provided the assist. No goal, no assist, but there’s no doubt the goal couldn’t have happened without him. Iwobi executes these kinds of moves every time I watch him. He finds the space and receives the ball, often in tight areas. Then his first touch, decision making and eye for a pass do the rest. Other players get the ball in positions where they can score or assist because of him. The team retains possession where they’d otherwise lose it because of him. In addition, you shouldn’t overlook the fact that Alex is an academy product. That fact alone helps in multiple ways. It means he has a connection to Arsenal greater than anyone who made the move for a big transfer fee and high wages. It means he goes down as a homegrown player on the squad lists, and makes him a role model for Reiss Nelson, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and the rest. It gives the fans someone to be proud to call their own. So yes, I want Iwobi to score more, and I’m glad he’s been showing he can with the goals against Bayern and Benfica in pre-season, then Brighton and Zambia in his limited competitive appearances. But a team of eleven goalscorers wouldn’t win many matches, you need more than that. dailycannon.com/2017/10/does-alex-iwobi-need-to-be-a-goalscorer-to-be-a-success/ 2 Likes |

The point is if we have to blacklist every website that do what OGN is doing, we will find many of them in our black book. Just as joseph1013 rightly said, I think the right approach to follow is: 1. Look at the headline 2. Check if there are any quotes. If not, discard the story. 3. If there are quotes, but they are NOT credible or are from unknown sources, discard the story 4. Look to see if the headline conveys the idea of the credible quote(s). If it does, copy and post as it is. If it doesn't give it a new appropriate headline. 5. Make sure to always cite the source of the story. I think these are easy steps that we can follow. It will guard us from getting swayed easily by every news story. Oasis007: 1 Like 1 Share |

Thank you sir for your very kind words. I'm actually very passionate about this. But i'm sure many of us can even do better. It's just a process. And I don't care about sharing all I know and how I do it. The way we all post stories on here has improved if we've noticed. So we actually learn from each other. While I cover the championship and a few others, others can cover other leagues. We are together in this, and we can make this thread even more powerful. joseph1013: 1 Like |
