I won't start a non-argument with you about it. It was not like you're saying it. It was a tight angle. How can that be an open net?

Did you watch it or were you told?

Haba na the angle was absolutely not tight. It was as straight forward as it gets after rounding a keeper. The only thing was that he took it on his not so strong right foot. I already posted the video. Look at both Messi and Suarez reaction to the miss.

and so....?
let's hype him...it's no ones business.
had it been i have the time...I don't mind write half a page just to hype him and many others in the SE....

I am so proud of him and many others...who despite not being born here in Nigeria....they could still identify themselves wit this country in music, sport and lots more...
and also the likes of mikel,Moses Simon, shehu etc despite the odds and challenges they could overcome and build a football career....

so nothin wrong in hyping them...
moreover the article never hyped him just project a role model for him to emulate...

Whoscored Nigerian Championship Player of the Week | Sammy Ameobi

Reading 0-2 Middlesbrough

Anglo-Portuguese center back, Tiago Ilori started for Reading but was stretchered off as early as the 28th minute after he collided with teammate Liam Moore in a clash of heads. He was taken to hospital after the incident. However Ilori’s relative short time on the pitch worked to his favor as he was the top performer in terms of pass success rate. According to whoscored, he attempted 26 passes, and 25 of them were accurate.
+Stats Rating: 5.97

Sone Aluko’s time on the pitch was however not interrupted. Playing as Reading’s right attacking midfielder in a 4-2-3-1 formation, Aluko made the Top 5 in three whoscored categories, for total shots(2), 6.1% possession (72 touches), and 2 successful dribbles. Aluko took one of Reading’s three corner-kicks.
+Stats Rating: 6.39

Fulham's Sheyi Ojo is still out due to a dislocated shoulder. The Liverpool loanee is expected to remain sidelined for another 5 weeks.
+Stats Rating: N/A

Sammy Ameobi returned with another MOTM recognition, after only missing out of it in the previous round. Ameobi scored Bolton’s only goal putting them ahead on the 28th minute. He was right there on time to calm down a pull out from the rear. He cleverly evaded his markers who had caught up with him to slot the ball to the bottom right past a helpless Fulham goalie. Although he was dispossessed three times, Ameobi came out in top 5 in whoscored statistics for top tackles (3 ) and dribbles (3).

Cadiff 0-0 Milwall
Millwall's Fred Onyedinma was a late sub-in two minutes into extra time. The 20-year-old forward therefore got a default whoscored rating.
+Stats Rating: 6.0

Hull 2-3 Nottingham Forest

Ola Aina was again in charge of Hull's right-back department. The Super Eagles defender who is the leading right back in the Championship so far this season according to whoscored statistical rating, completed 36 accurate passes out of 41 to become the best player in pass success rate -- for those who put in a full shift. Aina, however, was dispossessed once, and committed two fouls.
+Stats Rating: 6.59

Fikayo Tomori remained in Hull's dugout for the entire period.
+Stats Rating: N/A

Birmingham 0-0 Aston Villa

Villa's Josh Onomah put in a full shift as a support striker. The England U21 midfielder who is said to be on the radar of Super Eagles coach, Genort Rohr, was cautioned on the 76th minute. He only made whoscored’s top 5 in the category of tackles, with a 100% success rate from 3 tackles attempted, and was dispossessed once.
+Stats Rating: 6.15

Burton 1-2 Ipswich
Dominic Iorfa spent the entire match duration in Ipswich’s bench.

Does Alex Iwobi need to be a goalscorer to be a success?

By Dan Critchlow- Oct 28, 2017

After two goals in the space of a week won Alex Iwobi a lot of favour with fans of Arsenal and Nigeria, we’re looking at whether goals are necessary for the 21-year-old to be an important part of the Gunners’ first-team.

Before I get started, I think I need to point out that obviously an Iwobi scoring goals is better than one that isn’t. Just as Nacho Monreal is better when he’s scoring, or Jack Wilshere. When players do the job they’re in the team to do, and then score goals as well, that’s the ideal situation.

Arsène Wenger seemed to agree with this sentiment in a recent interview. He told his Brighton post-match press conference (via ESPN):“A player like him must score 10 goals, and he must as well give between six and 10 assists, and that’s what I want from him.

“He is the kind of player who has good availability, helps you a lot to get out of pressure and creates spaces. But what you want from him is final balls and goals as well.”

Adding goals would be a welcome addition to Alex’s game, so if Wenger can push him to convert more chances, that’s clearly a good thing. However, I wouldn’t drop Nacho or Jack if they didn’t score, and although Iwobi plays a forward role, I think he always has a part to play, scoring or not.

Iwobi contributes a lot more to the team than just goals and assists, and I think that’s something often overlooked by fans. After the goal against Brighton, and then the goal that qualified Nigeria for the World Cup against Zambia, Iwobi drew praise from fans on social media, with the added qualification that he has to keep scoring now.

But I’m not sure he does ‘have to’. Personally I’d play him either way. Last season, when Arsenal were at their best, before the Everton and Manchester City matches, Iwobi had only scored one goal in 10 matches, and yet the team were unbeaten in all 10.

Against Chelsea, in the third match of that run, Iwobi didn’t score or assist, but won man-of-the-match as the Gunners ran out 3-0 winners. Whilst he wasn’t the one scoring or providing the goals, he was facilitating the play. For Theo Walcott’s goal, Iwobi found space behind the midfield and collected the ball from Özil. He played a one-two with the German, then executed a through-ball behind the defence for Hector Bellerín, who provided the assist.

No goal, no assist, but there’s no doubt the goal couldn’t have happened without him.

Iwobi executes these kinds of moves every time I watch him. He finds the space and receives the ball, often in tight areas. Then his first touch, decision making and eye for a pass do the rest. Other players get the ball in positions where they can score or assist because of him. The team retains possession where they’d otherwise lose it because of him.

In addition, you shouldn’t overlook the fact that Alex is an academy product. That fact alone helps in multiple ways. It means he has a connection to Arsenal greater than anyone who made the move for a big transfer fee and high wages. It means he goes down as a homegrown player on the squad lists, and makes him a role model for Reiss Nelson, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and the rest. It gives the fans someone to be proud to call their own.

So yes, I want Iwobi to score more, and I’m glad he’s been showing he can with the goals against Bayern and Benfica in pre-season, then Brighton and Zambia in his limited competitive appearances. But a team of eleven goalscorers wouldn’t win many matches, you need more than that.

dailycannon.com/2017/10/does-alex-iwobi-need-to-be-a-goalscorer-to-be-a-success/
Iwobi needs to add goals and take more risks in his play. Sometimes it's like he's afraid to make mistakes and becomes too passive when you expect him to drive forward. There's big potential there but he needs to be playing with more confidence.

Cmon...I can see you posted the incident. That cannot be the open goal you're referring to. It was a tight angle. It was an easy goal to miss. You need stamina and most importantly balance to score that. You could see the ball hit the pole, right? That's how much of an angle it was.

And his reaction says nothing about it being an open net or not. I'm a Barca fan and I have seen the same reaction time and time again when La Purga misses, even from far away free kicks.

Personally, i'd want Iwobi to add scoring to his game. I dont want a Mikel repeat. Need a goalscoring midfielder. Enough of praising athleticism and physical. His scoring would attract suitors if he does 10+/season. If pa Wenger doesnt wana appreciate, clubs will. And if he gets better, the Nigerian flag soars.

Odemwingie Scores First Goal In 3 Months In Madura Win, Nwokolo On Target
October 29, 2017 12:36 pm

By James Agberebi:
Former Super Eagles striker Osaze Odemwingie scored his first goal in three months for 10-man Madura United in their 4-3 away win against Persiba in the Indonesian Super League on Sunday.

Odemwingie’s last goal was also against Persiba in a 1-0 home win back in July this year before being sidelined with injury.

He had also provided an assist for Nigerian-born Indonesian international Gregory Nwokolo for Madura’s second goal in the win against Persiba back in July.

Madura went 1-0 up through Fabiano on 24 minutes but a brace from Marlon Silva (42nd, 47th minutes) gave Persiba a 2-1 lead.

Nwokolo drew Madura level in the 57th minute before Srdjan Lopicic restored the home side’s lead on 77 minutes.

Prior to Lopicic’s goal, Fabiano was sent off in the 62nd minute after receiving his second yellow card.

Odemwingie made it 3-3 in the 78th minute before Nwokolo scored the winner in the 93rd minute.

Odemwingie has now scored 14 goals in 21 league appearances for Madura United who are now fifth on 57 points in the league table.

Don't u know some guys came into d team through agents when Rohr was new and it's still happening coz Aaron Samuel invitation still a puzzle for me.

If Aaron can make it why not Ejide, but funny enough Ejide lack d same confidence and composure that a lot believe is d problem of Akpeyi,I can tell anybody that Ezenwa and Ajiboye are better keeper than Ejide.

Recommending Ejide not Aiyenugba should tell u a lot are running d show behind Rohr.

If Enyeama w not make it,then we should concentrate on what we have,Akpeyi,Ezenwa, Ajiboye, Uzoho, Alampasu, instead of going back to Ejide.

I believe with more matches before WC things w take shape.

That is why I will always voice out against this obvious dirty business going on in the national team.

I am doing my research to know if these agents are in collaboration with some of these clubs and coaches because you will suddenly see a player who has been on the bench fir donkey years start getting playing two weeks before the announcement of Super Eagles list and before you say jack Robinson you will see such players name on the list.

Once they play one or two matches, people will claim they are super eagles member or you will hear they are versatile hence the need to keep them. But other players playing regularly often gets ignored.

They always make sure those doing well never get a call and if eventually they are forced to oblige, they will give such player 15 minutes of game time. Why? Because they don't want make em shine take win the heart of fans.

If at all they need experienced goalkeeper apart from Vincent it must be Dele Aiyenugba not Ejide.

If that report was anything to go by, then the said anonymous agent must be Tony Harris who flooded our team with below average players such as Gabriel Ruben, Michael Uchebo, Babatunde, Moses Simon, Uche Nwofor etc. The purported player still in the mix must be Moses Simon, not Shehu because I doubt Shehu is Tony's player.

Surely, Shehu is the player who needed an agent to get into the national team because he was almost without a club when he received a call. Simon was already a super star in Belgium when he was called into the national team. grin

GERNOT ROHR COULD RECALL OBAFEMI MARTINS TO NIGERIA SQUAD
Gernot Rohr could recall Obafemi Martins to Nigeria squad

Obafemi Martins -B
by Phumzile Ngcatshe
Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins could return to the Super Eagles squad after coach Gernot Rohr has hinted as much.

The Shanghai Greenland Shenhua striker could gatecrash Nigeria’s squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia according to Rohr.

The manager has made this revelation during a radio interview when he was asked about the chances of the forward making the squad for the World Cup.

”We will call the best men, for now everybody wants to come because we are in the World Cup. The players who brought us to the World Cup, I don’t forget them. It’s very important “, Rohr said.

” There are other players we are also looking at calling to beef up the team, but for now we are looking at getting good games for better preparations for the World Cup .“

Martins was part of the Nigerian team in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. It was the only global tournament the 33-year-old has played in his career.

What different view/angle would the full match differ from this highlight? I watched the game and even the commentators exclaimed he missed an open goal. It must not be a Yakubu style b4 it's classified an open net miss. Please how would you classify Charlie Adam's miss yesterday? Abeg all na open net whether work or no work. And I watched the full game wella

I want Shehu to be tested against a rampaging winger. I'd also love to see Aina play at RB. But since the idea now is to use inverted wingers who like to cut in and use their preferred stronger foot, don't you think using inverted full backs will soon be in vogue?

inverted fullbacks will NEVER be in use. Fullbacks are meant to stop crosses and that means a RB for example must fall into an awkward position where he can only clear the ball with his right foot so if he is dominantly left-footed he will make a mistake. This is why playing Dani Alves as an inverted winger(which was tried by Guardiola) will not work, despite him being the best RB presently. Like I said, I want Aina at RB

I tend to believe it because of the source.

Jordon 'Iybe' will learn how to pronounce his name properly. But he will face a battle to make the WC team. Will he play for Nigeria if he is not selected for the world cup?

If Tammy declares, he will make the squad. He is in great form.

Let's see him against Algeria and possibly against Argentina

Will you believe me if I tell you that WE WILL NOT DEFEAT ALGERIA?

Professional contract for Deji Beyreuther

U-19 player Deji Beyreuther has signed a professional contract at Eintracht. The left-back has been handed a deal until summer 2021.

Having only moved across the city from FSV Frankfurt in January of this year, left-back Deji Beyreuther did not need much time to find his feet and soon impressed for the Eintracht U-19s. The 18 year-old has now signed a professional contract with the Eagles until 30 June 2021.

Beyreuther was already training regularly with the first team during pre-season until an injury forced him out of action. After three months on the sidelines, the left-footer made his comeback with the U-19s against 1. FSV Mainz 05, and was then called up to the senior squad by head coach Niko Kovac for the DFB Cup game against 1. FC Schweinfurt 05.

In Deji we have a very talented player in our U-19s who’s already knocking on the door of the first team after a short time,” said sporting director Bruno Hübner. “He’s a player with huge potential who we see playing for the first team in the future, having trained with them again since his injury. The fact he was on the bench for the cup game against Schweinfurt underlines our confidence in his ability. We fully believe Deji can make the step up to professional football.”

Beyreuther himself was almost lost for words after signing: “I’m overjoyed that Eintracht have given me this opportunity. I feel completely happy here, at Riederwald and in the stadium. To see my name in Niko Kovac’s great squad fills me with huge pride. I’ll do my best to repay the faith.”

There is no need for us to wait until he starts shining before we call him.

Rohr should call him for the Algeria match to tie him down and afterwards watch him grow in the league.

Yellow journalism!

Where was Martin's mentioned by the gaffer? Why was Martins particularly called when there are dozens of players Rohr could have been referring to?
I might be wrong but I feel there's a carefully orchestrated media- opp going on to subtly mount pressure on the Coach. Cos Martins gets mentioned more than most.
