Mujtahida:

If a player gets into the team and deprives a 'qualified'(this has no definition) player and then the qualified player does not go ahead to fulfil his full potential then we should doubt the quality of that qualified player.

Look at Onyekuru. He was invited before. He didn’t pass. He kept on doing his thing. Now another opportunity has been handed to him which I earnestly pray he takes. While I know not every good player will make the team because at the end just 23 has to be chosen, no average player can ultimately stop a quality player from getting into the team.

In Nigeria anything is possible.

Remember Rueben Gabriel and Michael Uchebo.

if he can just cement that left back and Shehu continues that blistering form at right back, Nigeria's full back issues will be sorted out for close to a decade

You are being presumptuous we haven't seen Aina play that position yet to determine who is better.

Nigerian Wonderkid Okafor Scores, Provides Two Assists As Basel Thrash CSKA In UYL

Oct 31, 2017 1:00 PM

Swiss club FC Basel put themselves in a fantastic position to qualify for the UEFA Youth League playoffs after a 4-2 thrashing of Russia team CSKA Moscow, with Swiss-born Nigerian midfielder Noah Okafor grabbing the headlines again.

The match day four fixture was staged at Leichtathletik-Stadion St. Jakob (Basel) on Tuesday evening.

Noah Okafor broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute before providing the assist for Basel's second goal scored by Schmid a minute later.

Although Basel controlled the game, the Russians managed to reduce the arrears through Oleynikov's deflected shot in the 73rd minute.

Pululu scored to restore the two-goal cushion in the 83rd minute, before Nicolas Suter increased the lead to 4-1 after he was fed by Noah Okafor, then Zhironkin netted for the visitors on 87 minutes.

FC Basel, who face Manchester United after the international break, are second in Group A with seven points.

Okafor has been involved in all the matches played by Basel in the UEFA Youth League this season, scoring two goals and providing four assists.

PSG and Bayern are two of the best teams in the world now. The only disappointment was the Celtic performance.

I agree but Onyekuru need to start showing some real potential outside Belgian League clubs. A forward need to score. I just dey hope say all these our young boys no disappoint us for WC. Let's be realistic, our semi-final dream is (not a little) excessive.

Komekn, I'm sorry to say this, you make the EPL as if it's the holy book for club football. I rate the epl but it's not the only league. You always refer to players in almost all tiers of English football - I want to assume that's your environ so you have to praise it to high heavens. Truth is, very few coaches rate Championship players for technicality. English leagues are good but should never be used as the holy book for accessing a players invitation to the EPL. Mikel Obi that we are praising today started from Lyn Oslo. Even Ighalo played in Norway. Due to the rough terrain in Nigerian players making it in European leagues, Norway is like a sprouting ground for them. I read an article where Attah Aneke was advising players to come to Norway and use it as a foundation to a successful European career. Nwakali even signed a contract extension with City. I doubt they'd want to offer an extension to a talentless player. I don't think it's fair to judge a player by the type of club they play in. Mbark Bousoffa that is the main pillar of Morocco plays in UAE. I think ability should be paramount rather than type of club. If Nwakali was born in UK he would have been loaned to a lower division club in England and would your opinion change about him?

komekn:

I appreciate and respect your insight as one with depth. I think you are being diplomatic.

The player is in a team that is third from bottom and his league is in the real backwaters of European football and rated near number 30 overall. That is simply abysmal.

You know football. Scoring in the EPL, Championship, LaLiga, Bundesliga, etc and scoring in the Norwegian league are a thousand miles apart. That's the reality.

You know why the EPL, is so competitive is the speed at which you are closed down. So scoring is not easy the same goes for the Bundesliga, La Liga, Seria A, etc.

Yesterday evening, I was with a Nigerian U20 player who has played a couple of games for an EPL first team. He is left footed fast and I am not talking about Seyi Ojo. I have said he is not ready, with this kind of selection I don't know what to say to him.

with most national teams you know what the established criteria is for selection and you work towards those standards. In this case we are left bewildered.

Dude I know hundred of scouts and a least 10 heads of recruitment in English premiership and Championship clubs they would all find this bewildering. There response to me well you know you Nigerians and how you operate.

I never knew this dude was this good! Yikes!

And he is also a utility player. Are yall seeing what am seeing? Here is a good holding midfielder if we so desire to deploy him there. Neat passes, good defensive abilities, high level of dribbling skills. There is class and there is clash! This dude oozes class!

My comment was a reaction to his many sins. I am allergic to bullsshit and I dont care what anybody thinks.
And you cant say what standard is acceptable because we have different ideologies and principles.

One of my ideologies is to behead every tribalist and corrupt individual in the presence of their family....I hate the way Nigerians behave, they are too weak and ignorant and thats why the country is a sshit hole. Nigeria need a total bloodshed to instill law, order and discipline in them.

we don't have our left full back solid and that's my reason for hoping he comes good in that position

If that position was covered properly probably in the level Shehu is running the right I would have wished he takes over the right

So who do you suggest should play the left full back on the 10th and 14th if Aina plays the right

It's not as if we can't do without Mikel, bit he's often substituted wrongly.

Believe me Agbo, Ogu and Esiti have what it takes to dictate the pace of the game.

This is what Ndidi, Onazi, Agu, Etebo can't do. These guys are practically work-horses.
Uche Agbo and Anderson Esiti dictate the pace the game?
