Should the claims of an illicit relationship be enough grounds to warrant cancelation of a legal matrimonial proceeding? I think , No! Valid claims against proceedings should be a subsisting marriage or the likes that have legal footings - not frivolous relationship.

I too am beginning to question how that ridiculous tradition came about. If this question is not asked during payment of dowry, why is then asked in church when both families have already agreed on everything? I think it's a dumb and divisive practice.

It's why I like the way it's done in the Catholic Church. Banns of marriage are publicised in various parishes the intending couples have ever been to and anyone objecting to the wedding is expected to raise such objection weeks before the wedding. No one will be allowed to come on a wedding day to disrupt a wedding.
