Mujtahida: Mat 23:23 Luke 18:12 Hebrews 7:1-28 Luke 11:42 Matthew 5:17-20. Read. Out of 12, there was one Judas. So you can't because of the judases brand every true man of God with despicable names. Do you know how much is sunk into TV programs the true ones hold? touching lives in places even in the Arab world? Do you know how much world wide missionary missions cost? Have any idea how properties are bought all over the world to bring the gospel closer and enrich lives? Do you know how many millions of lives are been affected by scholarships of these missions? Like i said earlier, only the wolf among the sheep eat church money. The good ones know better than to touch such. Btw, if oil companies can pay their workers heavy salaries, is it the almighty God, owner of the heavens and earth that can't take major care of his own? Isn't this an insult on his person? So you prefer pastors to live like church rats, begging politicians and making a mockery of the mandate committed into their hands? Smh All these fights are from the pit of hell and as you so well know, the gates of hell cannot prevail against God's true church. Don't be a willing instrument neither b4 you cut short your destiny. Tithe The Bible tells of two instances prior to the setting up of the Law covenant in which a tenth part of possessions was paid to God or to his representative. The first of these was on the occasion when Abraham gave Melchizedek one tenth of the spoils of his victory over Chedorlaomer and his allies. (Ge 14:18-20) The apostle Paul cites this incident as proof that Christ’s priesthood according to the manner of Melchizedek is superior to that of Levi, since Levi, being in the loins of Abraham, paid tithes, in effect, to Melchizedek. (Heb 7:4-10) The second case concerned Jacob, who vowed at Bethel to give one tenth of his substance to God.—Ge 28:20-22 These two accounts, however, are merely instances of voluntarily giving one tenth. There is no record to the effect that Abraham or Jacob commanded their descendants to follow such examples, thereby establishing a religious practice, custom, or law. It would have been superfluous for Jacob, if already under a compulsory obligation to pay tithes, to vow to do so, as he did. It is therefore evident that the tithing arrangement was not a custom or a law among the early Hebrews. It was instituted with the inauguration of the Law covenant, not before Mosaic Tithing Laws. Jehovah gave Israel tithing laws for definite purposes, apparently involving the use of two tenths of their annual income, except during the Sabbath years, when no tithe was paid, since no income was anticipated. (Le 25:1-12) However, some scholars believe there was only one tithe. Such tithes were in addition to the firstfruits they were under obligation to offer to Jehovah.—Ex 23:19; 34:26. The first tithe, consisting of one tenth of the produce of the land and fruit trees and (evidently of the increase) of the herds and flocks, was brought to the sanctuary and given to the Levites, since they had no inheritance in the land but were devoted to the service of the sanctuary. (Le 27:30-32; Nu 18:21, 24) The Levites, in turn, gave a tenth of what they received to the Aaronic priesthood for their support.—Nu 18:25-29. Evidently the grain was threshed and the fruit of the vine and of the olive tree was converted into wine and oil before tithing. (Nu 18:27, 30; Ne 10:37) If an Israelite wished to give money instead of this produce, he could do so, provided he added an additional fifth to the valuation. (Le 27:31) But it was different with the flock and the herd. As the animals came out of the pen one by one through a gate, the owner stood by the gate with a rod and marked every tenth one as the tithe, without examination or selection.—Le 27:32, 33. It seems there was an additional tithe, a second tenth, set aside each year for purposes other than the direct support of the Levitical priesthood, though the Levites shared in it. Normally it was used and enjoyed in large measure by the Israelite family when assembling together at the national festivals. In cases where the distance to Jerusalem was too great for the convenient transport of this tithe, then the produce was converted into money and this, in turn, was used in Jerusalem for the household’s sustenance and enjoyment during the holy convention there. (De 12:4-7, 11, 17, 18; 14:22-27) Then, at the end of every third and sixth years of the seven-year sabbatical cycle, this tithe, instead of being used to defray expenses at the national assemblies, was set aside for the Levites, alien residents, widows, and fatherless boys in the local community.—De 14:28, 29; 26:12. These tithing laws binding on Israel were not excessive. Nor should it be overlooked that God promised to prosper Israel by opening “the floodgates of the heavens” if his tithing laws were obeyed. (Mal 3:10; De 28:1, 2, 11-14) When the people became negligent as to tithing, the priesthood suffered, for the priests and Levites were forced to spend their time in secular work and consequently neglected their ministerial services. (Ne 13:10) Such unfaithfulness tended to bring about a decline in true worship. Sadly, when the ten tribes fell away to calf worship, they used the tithe to support that false religion. (Am 4:4, 5) On the other hand, when Israel was faithful to Jehovah and was under the rule of righteous administrators, tithing for the Levites was restored, and true to Jehovah’s promise, there were no shortages.—2Ch 31:4-12; Ne 10:37, 38; 12:44; 13:11-13 Under the Law there was no stated penalty to be applied to a person failing to tithe. Jehovah placed all under a strong moral obligation to provide the tithe; at the end of the three-year tithing cycle, they were required to confess before him that the tithe had been paid in full. (De 26:12-15) Anything wrongfully withheld was viewed as something stolen from God.—Mal 3:7-9. By the first century C.E., the Jewish religious leaders, particularly among the scribes and Pharisees, were making a sanctimonious show of tithing and other outward works, in a form of worship, but their hearts were far removed from God. (Mt 15:1-9) Jesus reproved them for their selfish, hypocritical attitude, calling attention to their being meticulous to give a tenth even of “the mint and the dill and the cumin”—something they should have done—yet at the same time disregarding “the weightier matters of the Law, namely, justice and mercy and faithfulness.” (Mt 23:23; Lu 11:42) By way of illustration, Jesus contrasted the Pharisee who boastfully felt self-righteous because of his own works of fasting and tithing, with the tax collector who, though considered as nothing by the Pharisee, humbled himself, confessed his sins to God, and begged for divine mercy.—Lu 18:9-14 No Tithing for Christians. At no time were first-century Christians commanded to pay tithes. The primary purpose of the tithing arrangement under the Law had been to support Israel’s temple and priesthood; consequently the obligation to pay tithes would cease when that Mosaic Law covenant came to an end as fulfilled, through Christ’s death on the torture stake. (Eph 2:15; Col 2:13, 14) It is true that Levitical priests continued serving at the temple in Jerusalem until it was destroyed in 70 C.E., but Christians from and after 33 C.E. became part of a new spiritual priesthood that was not supported by tithes.—Ro 6:14; Heb 7:12; 1Pe 2:9 As Christians, they were encouraged to give support to the Christian ministry both by their own ministerial activity and by material contributions. Instead of giving fixed, specified amounts to defray congregational expenses, they were to contribute “according to what a person has,” giving “as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2Co 8:12; 9:7) They were encouraged to follow the principle: “Let the older men who preside in a fine way be reckoned worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard in speaking and teaching. For the scripture says: ‘You must not muzzle a bull when it threshes out the grain’; also: ‘The workman is worthy of his wages.’” (1Ti 5:17, 18) However, the apostle Paul set an example in seeking to avoid bringing an undue financial burden on the congregation.— —Ac 18:3; 1Th 2:9 1 Like |

Penalty82: paul was argueing the superiority of Jesus priesthood to that of the jewish levitical system. He is letting them know that the priesthood of the jews plus the law covenant and the tithes and sabbaths and all its temple arrangement is no longer necessary and it is inferior to that of Jesus. so christians are no longer obligated to observe the jewish system of worship and all attached to it. Secondly Abraham voluntarily gave a tenth of the spoils he was not obligated to do so. he never gave tithes out of his own earnings or property, he gave 10 percent out of war spoils to the priest because he just wanted to but the real deal is he gave 90 percent or all the remaining to a pagan king, the king of sodom and gomorrah. Now how is that a precedent for xtian tithing. He did it just once. Then the israelites do not pay tithe on the sabbath year, because there is no earning for them that year. There is also two types of tithes one they give to the priests and levites it is strictly for the priests and levites. the other tithe the tither share with his family, share with levites fatherless boys widows. This is the tithe they travel with for their annual celebrations/festivals and which they can convert to money and use to buy food and alcohol and generally have a happy time with each other. Then when the tithe is coverted to money, it comes with an extra charge of one fifth of the tithe. so the total monetary value of the tithe is now more than 10 percent. All these were abolished by the law of the christ. if abrahamic tithing which is not a tithe in the real sense of the word predates the mosaic law and is therefore obligatory for christian, abel noah abraham job all did animal sacrifices for the atonement of sins, why are christians not obligated to offer animal sacrifices. Christ was the end of law, the law that compusoried tithing, circumcision, sabbath, animal sacrifices, etc |

Slaveman343:Belief is a different thing from knowledge you don't believe it is fiction I do Not all of it but a great deal of it . You may believe that The Hebrews were chosen people of God above the Ekiti and Ijebu I don't You may believe God ordered Noah to build an ark and put animals in twos and then destroyed everyone else I don't You may believe God fed Hebrews in the desert for 40 years with manna and quails after parting the Red Sea for them to walk on dry land. For me that is all fictional or to be respectful let us say myths. But there are myths all over the world and we have many good ones in Yorubaland too. I never said all atheists know the Bible so do not misquote me.I said many are because they have studied the bible.Deal with that statement LOGICALLY . CampuChan:and who told you Jesus never wore "gold shoes" while he was on earth? I mean, his clothes were so fine that the soldier's had to cast lots to ascertain who would inherit them, not minding how bloodied they were. there are several examples in scripture of rich people who were righteous. I'm in no way exonerating the super billionaire pastors who flaunt wealth, they are also wrong. And the new doctrine of giving that is circulated in the Body of Christ right now is mostly erroneous and a result of covetousness both on the part of the pastors and the congregation. The balance is that people even though rich (including pastors), shouldn't count the riches as something to hold on to for relevance. |

There are some salient points Freeze made: 1. Jesus did not pay tithes. 2. There was tithe holidays. Truth is, there is not record of Jesus, or jis disciples paying tithe. |

Lol.. Today Christians don't wanna argue anything at all. They're just scared. Of a truth most of them don't think Freeze is wrong. They don't even think at all. They're scared of thinking. They feel thinking would attract eternal damnation from God himself. So why do we have brains then? I believe in every atom of supposed nonsense, there's kilograms of truth in it. Freeze may not be entirely right, but hell he isn't wrong. I once entered one of these mushroom pentecostal churches littered around the City of Lagos, and I saw a poster with the words "Pay your tithe. It's your key to abundant blessings from God". I may not get the words verbatim, but that was exactly the type of message it passed across. Then I began to wonder since when did God demand a percentage of your earnings before he can bestow blessings on you?! When it's not like he's your government who use the tax you pay to do works and provide amenities for you, and when no you don't pay Tax, you shouldn't expect anything from the Government. So has God been reduced to such? He who gives freely? Did we tithe before he sent us His only son to die for our sins? That act has been classified as the greatest blessing of all, and he did it without a fee. So why am I being told that tithing would release God's blessings on me?! Then again, when persons of low intelligence make stupid statements as "it's not your business what your pastor does with the tithe. It's between he and God. You are not giving him but God instead". They're only reducing themselves intellectually. In as much as tithes supposedly release blessings from Heaven, I still have to know what my pastor uses it for. What if he uses it to maintain his Harem, or fulfil his shoe fad, or acquire cars just because he can? So I should continue tithing to a pastor knowing damn well they are people who'd be forever grateful if you spare them just N500 every week.. Church processes should be transparent enough so that even the least member is aware of what is done with the tithe. Church members should know by what means their pastor was able to acquire such car or such house or such jet. I feel that's what Freeze is calling for. He's a true intellect and I hope he continues to knock on the ears of these billionaire pastors. 2 Likes |

awesome and brilliant composition. let me support you with more bible verses. let those who are rich in this system not be proud or rest their hope on uncertain riches, but to work at good, rich in fine works, ready to share... 1 tim 6. 17 to 19. luke 18:24 and 25, it is easier for a camel to enter the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter Gods kingdom. deut 28.12 and 13, GOD will open up to you his storehouses and bless every deed of your hand and you will lend to many nations while you will not borrow, you shall be the head and not the tail and on top not the bottom IF YOU KEEP OBEYING THE COMMANDMENTS OF YOUR GOD. why dont they quote this verse instead of malachi if they want God to open his storehouses for his people. this verse is more comprehensive, more encompassing and has more promises and has no time lapse. If you pay tithes or make offerings or donate 100 percent but go on disregarding Gods law, maltreating your househelp, cheating on your wife, other sexual immorality, gambling etc and this has become a way of with no remorse and turning around , then it is fa fa fa, fao. zero. |

HARDDON: did paul beg politicians, did peter beg, did elijah and elijah beg the idolatrous kings of israel. The early christian church had more tribulations and adversity than now and their missionary work has been unparralled, did theu resort to these wanton greed for peoples wealth. Did they rely on defective teachings so as to expand their ministry and do outreach. They believed the whole body of christ followers are a royal priesthood and therefore no one was to live a kings life because he is a deacon or bishop, but there should be an equalizing and things shared equally amongst all when the need arises. |

I cannot but wonder why an OAP somewhere will be telling you as a believer what to do or what not to do. Those claiming he'd read the Bible, how many times have you read your own Bible?? Everybody is free to air his opinion but when all you do is pastor this, pastor that, tithe today, firstfruits tomorrow, then I have serious issues with such! I was opportune this morning to read Open Heavens Devotional and what I read therein encouraged me. Baba Adeboye sold his first car for the first Holy Ghost Congress. Where was Freeze or whatever his name is then? When he sold his first house, where were all the badmouthers So now God is blessing His servants, you're complaining? You were not there when they were labouring. Now it is their season of harvests you're writing epistles upon epistles why they should not do this or that! I pity your generation! Moreso, who told you the pastors riding private jets are using the members tithes for such?? I smile in Spanish! What you know nothing about, you sit in your room and condemn? What makes you think every good thing a pastor is using is from members tithes?? I bet with you, some of those running their mouths up and down don't work near a quarter of what those men of God are doing! Maybe you should open your Bible and read Galatians 6:6 for yourself! |
