Omeruo Gets Late Eagles Call-Up For Algeria, Argentina Clashes

By the way, Oga Boss, Icon4s, I owe you an apology. After a long thought and careful consideration, I think I might be wrong in my assessment of Garba Lawal. He might have been atrocious when it comes to his creative attributes. Especially his passing and crossing.

However, there are other attributes that can make coaches stick to particular players despite their creative weaknesses. Attributes like defensive positioning, covering gaps, strong mentality, discipline (Garba Lawal always showed up early to camp), work rate and depth in understanding tactics.

Apology whole heartedly accepted. You are a great man for this step you took.

Sure you know Garba well.

He started off as a DM but also played the LWF and LB positions.

It is even difficult to actually pin down which particular position he played most for Nigeria as he played several positions nearly in equal proportions.

I was not just happy when you tagged him a beneficiary of political zoning. Ikpe Ekong, which was the subject of the debate, could not make the kind of contributions Garba made. For about 10 years, Garba Lawal was almost irreplaceable in that team until age caught up with him.

agu and ogu play different positions so it would be erroneous to compare the two. that said this is another chance for mikel agu to prove his doubters wrong of which i'm one of them. if he flubs his chance we simply move on

They are both Central/ Defensive midfielders if you aren't awareMy question again; What abilities does Mike Agu posses that made you include him in your list ahead of Ogu? I'm just curios.

Even why Rohr doesn't play Ogu baffles me. I hope he gets his chance in our next game.

Former Super Eagles Star Emenalo Quits Chelsea, Set For Monaco

Former Nigeria defender Michael Emenalo has resigned from his position as technical director at Chelsea.

According to a report on the Telegraph, Emenalo quit after declining not to engage in a three-way power battle with current Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and Marina Granovskaia who are known not to see eye to eye.

The former Nigerian international, who was in the Super Eagles squad for the USA ’94 World Cup, could assume a position at AS Monaco.

Emenalo joined Chelsea in 2007 as an assistant under Avram Grant and he also worked as an opposition scout and assistant first-team coach under Carlo Ancelotti, replacing Ray Wilkins when he was sacked.

With Emenalo as Chelsea’s technical director, the 1994 World Cup star helped Chelsea win three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup, the Europa League and the Champions League.

Bakayoko showed this yesterday as he had the license to venture forward for Chelsea in the game against Manchester United. He was atrocious in front of goal and also poor with some final balls. However, there is no denying that his work rate and perseverance was a big part of Chelsea's success. That guy covered the whole pitch and clearly highlights your point.

Mujtahida:

Unless your analysis on Onazi is wrong- why do some here criticise him that he lacks positional discipline and ought to shield the back four when - according to your analysis - that should be Ndidi's role. Are they mistaken in their understanding of Onazi's role?
Meanwhile Ndidi has never - I dare say - given an outstanding performance in the Gwg as he does for Leicester City. I wish he'd do more in the Gwg.

I don't know why they criticise Onazi when it is obvious Ndidi's duty is to shield the defence but lacks discipline.

Maybe they want Onazi out to create chance for Ndidi. grin

Whenever Onazi and Ndisi played, Ndidi played the DM role. That isthe truth.

We can think this and that all day, but we can't make solid arguments based on what we think. Until Rohr gives reasons for handing Nwakali an invite, all we can do is speculate.
How about we just sit back for the young man to make his own case on the pitch?

TheGoodJoe:

Can C. Nwakali play as a right back, yes he can. We can keep that aside.

I do not think that news came from a source in the technical crew. I think it was an analyst. (owngoalnigeria people, do not vex, this is my personal observation)

However, the person made some nice observations which was not in my view.

I think Nwakali is in the team to screen as a cover for Onazi. For a long time, I noticed similarities in play and Onazi has become a big part of Rohr's set-up.

I also feel C. Nwakali's ability to play as a right back also helped him get a nod but I do not think it is as a cover for Shehu Abdulahi. The quote did not say that. That was an owngoalnigeria writer trying to expantiate on the comment.

The quote stated more options in other areas than the midfield. This means he can support in filling gaps in different roles.

Finally, I think Rohr wants to experiment giving Shehu Abdulahi more license to go forward and he needs a defensive midfielder who can slot into the space when Shehu goes forward.

Remember Rohr tried Ndidi as a right back and it did not work out too well. Meaning Ndidi might not provide adequate cover if he slots into the right role to cover.

Apart from Onazi who can play well as a right back, Chidiebere Nwakali provides an adequate option.

Let us see how it goes in camp.

It is a lie! shocked After celebrating with the Chelsea yesterday. I did not expect this.

What a great man and I respect him for this. Conte has a different idea for the team and Emenalo has his own way he wants to run Chelsea. If Abramovic will continue interfering, it is best Emenalo goes to where he will get a freehand to shape a team the way he wants.

I wish Emenalo Goodluck in his journey to Monaco and I have one plea to him.

They should be in the business of blogging. Post opinions not news stories.
When you post analysis as facts that becomes lies.

TheGoodJoe:
Owngoalnigeria is a fantastic sight. Very analytical and sometimes good in their forecast. Their only challenge is that they try to post their analysis as facts. They should stick to tagging lots of their work as analytical opinions and forecast. Stop using anonymous source when it is a well analysed point.

If they stick to that, they will be a powerful source of information.

I asked you to name who should have been called up instead. It took you a while before you mentioned Lawal.
I actually did claim so, where and when did you refute that claim?
And how is that even a diversion if I actually did make that claim? -- 2 things unrelated.

I've said Nwakali has been on the headlines. I have not seen or noticed any with Lawal lately. Secondly, I never said that's the reason why he was invited over the others. Don't put words into my mouth.
My point is you make it seem Lawal is clearly ahead of Nwakali. Besides your youtube video you posted of him from last season, your case is weak.

Nigeria: Maradona Reveals Interest in Nigerian Striker

By Cecilia Ogezi

Argentine retired professional footballer, Diego Armando Maradona has revealed his interest in Nigeria young striker, Danjuma Ademola Kuti.

Maradona picked interest in Kuti who was signed into the United Arab Emirate First Division league recently, also invited him to the senior side for training session and admired the skills of the 19year old striker.

This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen by the U.A.E Sports Agency in Abuja.

The statement said Maradona was impressed by the striker's way of scoring goals and playing skill and assured him of a promising future and that under him the young striker will be a successful payer.

He said the striker possesses what it takes to be outstanding and the club will ensure he is a successful player considering his abilities.

Presently Kuti is the leading scorer of the youth team which is topping the U.A.E . Youth league table.

Last session the youth team were champions of the U19 league after Kuti put them on the lead by scoring the only goal in a keenly contested match against Al Wasl F.C.

The football legend also encouraged the striker to becoming a legend and revealed that he will be the first Nigerian footballer to be coached by him.

Maradona who wants Kuti to play in the on going First division league competition is restricted by the U.A.E.F.A policy that allow only two foreigners to play in the league competition.

Two foreigners Omar Kossoko from France and one other have been registered in the first division league competition.

Maradona is presently working to put the club at top of the league and is saddled with the task of ensuring Fujairah FC is promoted back to Asian Gulf league after its relegation in 2015.

Fujairah won the right to be in the Emirati premier professional league (Asian Gulf League) at the end of the 2012-2013 season.

At the start of the 2014-2015 they began the first ever match in the AGL, ending the season in April 2015 in 9th place.

Presently in First division league, Maradona who just took up coaching job with the club is putting effort to make the club promote back to Asian Gulf league.
