Henry240:

This is also not new. The army in some speech early in the year did say they were going to go for 3 units of AS350 to start up the air arm. I think it was also published in Janes.

TAI ATAK, who will fly them, especially considering the unit is very new?

Buratai added that the Army authority had compiled a list of platforms it planned to acquire from Russian, American and Chinese origin including simulators and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).

He said the corps would take-off with any platform the authority was able to acquire in the interim with the target of developing into an effective support to Army operations anywhere in the world.

MHH I forgot about this as well, NAF is better off getting a mix of MI-17S for transport/assault and the Z10 from china as a dedicated attack Platform.

This NAF procurement says "New" and not "ongoing", I think the plan is to pay for 3 every year.

What's the use of ONE drone and ONE seaward defence boat, if there's not enough money, why not concentrate on one this year then the other next year? and as if that's not frustrating enough, DSS are getting THREE, THREE different rifles: CTAR, TAR AND X95, why not just use one uniformly? Nigerian mentality nawaooo.
DSS has always used three since the GEJ administration. This might just be a follow up or, if you recall , the recently formed QRF regiments and to a lesser extent during the graduation ceremony were equipped with one of these I forget. They could now of ordered their own rifles.

SouthAfrica Police Service paid company Forensic Data Analysts (FDA) R52million for 169 torches - R300'000 each (US$21,147)
Media reports today have revealed that on the last day of the 2015/16 financial year, the South African Police Service (SAPS) paid Forensic Data Analysts (FDA) over R52 million for a contract for 169 torches.

This amounts to an astonishingly exorbitant R300 000 per torch.

The invoice for the contract was paid for by the section in which former Acting National Police Commissioner General Khomotso Phahlane’s wife works. FDA is owned by a businessman that has been implicated in potentially corrupt transactions with Phahlane through the provision of luxury vehicles to him and his wife.

The DA will therefore write to the Secretary of Police, Mr Alvin Rapea, to request a specific investigation and analysis project of the SAPS expenditure over the last 5 financial years by the Civilian Secretariat, as per section 6(1)(b) of the Civilian Secretariat, in order to closely scrutinise potentially irrational or wasteful large contracts.

The reports also state that the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating other suspicious transactions between the SAPS and FDA.

SAPS annual reports always show that the department’s budget is fully spent yet police stations are always under-staffed and under-resourced. Stations are often told that there is not enough money when they ask for additional vehicles and personnel up the chain of command.

The DA have always suspected and can only conclude that the SAPS budget continues to be misspent due to skewed priorities and irrational procurement in supply chain management. This revelation sadly sheds light on that seemingly being the case. LINK https://www.da.org.za/2017/11/da-requests-investigation-exorbitant-saps-expenditure/
