Oasis007: We need the orchestrative abilities of Mikel in that AM position. Mind you this is Argentina we are playing. |

Thank you! this was the discussion I was having with someone. Shehu is not smart. He needs to be taught a lesson in discipline as well, as it was he who charged forward at Brahimi, uttering something. But with all fairness, I would have shown Brahimi a red Icon4s: |

OMANBALA1: Is he is truly top quality as some have said let him prove it, quarrel no deh. He is in lowly Wolfsburg a shadow of its former self. Now hovering in the relegation zone. He is essentially a youth player struggling to make the bench. Why did he get a first class ticket to the SE. |

Oasis007: You are right don't forget the tracking back.. It is going to expose the midfield considering the pace of Mikel and Ogu... And I can't see Mikel sitting deep covering the back four... You are just going to over stress the back four and leave plenty space in midfield... We need a breaker midfield |

realpoacher: We need the best keeper in the post. Not best adjusted keeper. When we had Enyeama in goal, he was the best. The goalkeeping department need to get to work and find out the best set. Ezenwa is a good goalkeeper but his limitations will put us at risk. And, yes, if Uzoho is not good enough, we have to keep searching than settle for someone we know is not good enough. |

Icon4s: Boss..... Mikel should rather play as a deep-lying Playmaker against the Argentines. Possession-wise we can't outplay the Argentines, hence Mikel Vision and long Range Passes gonna be a huge Advantage to counter-attack the Argentines. Defensively, the Team would switch to 4 - 2 - 3 - 1, and offensively play 4 - 4 - 2. 3 Likes 1 Share |

tbaba1234: Take time out and watch his games with England U20 he was not just outstanding. I will leave you to eat humble pie and hail him. I remember him at Tottenham when he was 16 he was the most technically gifted player without doubt in the U18's. He has got rid of all the show boating drag backs and rainbow flicks and JJay posturing. He is now an effective top player with consistent end product delivery. If we want him we need to do it now not on the pages of newspapers. Next season he will be one of Tottenhams best then it will be too late. England is changing rapidly the racial dynamics within football have swung completely. England will soon be like France. |

Oasis007: Mikel's best games for Nigeria in the last 7 years have been from the AM position. He may not be pacy enough to play the box to box midfield role. His killer final passes and recent eyes for goal would be key for us in that game. He is our key man going into that encounter and we must maximize his abilities. 4 Likes |

soetanoreoluwa: Matic and Pogba have no Pace, but their Combo (Pivot) was superb for United. When Pogba was injured, Fellaini, another slow Player, came in for him in the Lineup and still maintained the Team's Balance. However, the Pace of Herrera couldn't help the Team to maintain the momentum after Fellaini joined the Injury List, rather it collapsed the Midfield. Mikel is an experienced DM, same as Ogu. Can they fit in perfectly.....?! YES! 1 Like |

Humility017: I was making a comparison to TAYO EDUN who is at Fulham and TEGA ONOMAH who were both born in London, UK. As well as play age grade for England U19 and U20 respectively. Everything you have said is completely and entirely of no direct or indirect relevance to this particular discourse. Your comments are baffling. Your negative presumptuous prejudice bewildering but exposed for all to SEE CLEARLY AS BIGOTRY. I will no longer respond to your posts. 1 Like |

Icon4s: You are right Boss, Mikel has been exceptional so far for the Team as an AM, but in the Africa Qualifying Matches (against African Teams). It ain't gonna be a big Deal to nullify Mikel as an AM against non-Africa Team, hence if the Team is built on Mikel playing as an AM, it may tactically backfire, coz its easier to man-mark an attacking Player (as Herrera tamed Hazard last Season). |

Joebie: Most appreciated. I am totally de- tribalised. I was born in the UK but finished High school in Nigeria. I speak Ibo, Isoko / Uhrobo and a smattering of Yoruba from using molue ( yes I have entered molue) and my favourite language Warri pidgin. So for those who think I am an oyibo that far from the truth. My concept of patriotism is wound up in integrity, honesty, Fair-Play and righteousness. Of these I plead guilty too unapologetically. 3 Likes |

Joebie: This is enough reason to play Iwobi in the 10 role and not Etebo who struggled last night. Same thing is Iheanacho playing supporting striker not winger. |

Icon4s:I beg to disagree Sir. Forumites didn't even discuss this match as such not to talk of larger percentage. What has occupied us here has been the Tammy saga and the argument for /against foreign born players. I doubt if anyone even made any goal prediction in our favour. I dare say nobody did. I remember even laughing and saying that we've been on this foreign born issue because Super Eagles have qualified. There wasn't much expectation. 2 Likes |

I'm watching that game again right now. I will comment on other things I observed. But back to Shehu's issue. Even before that encounter, he would have gotten a second yellow on other occasions if it were for other refs. Shehu is easily my joint MOTM with Ekong, but hey I have to say things as it is. when I say not smart, you know what I mean. This is no English class. If I want to write serious English, trust me I can. It's ABC in football, when someone head butts you, you fall. BascoVanVeli: 1 Like |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Joebie: 12:32pm On Nov 11, 2017 |
I've always made the argument that there is no such thing as natural position. While the AM may be Iwobi's preferred position he still has to contend with other players who can probably play better than him there at his club. So decisions like these are made in the interest of the team, not playing every player in their preferred position. As regards the way SE is set up, with Mikel in the bench, Iwobi is the best for AM. The pitch really affected our play yesterday. Iwobi's style depends heavily on a smooth pitch because his ground key passes needs that. I noticed that one cross that he failed to connect with Nwakaeme, the ball actually was rolling and then took a quick bounce as soon as he attempted the pass. solonnachi: |

Thank you sir. And I appreciate your opinion as well. Firstly I want to say if we must be realistic, there are not much lessons we can draw from yesterday's game based on the circumstance as regards the bad state of the pitch. Having said that, you cannot make final judgements as regards players best position of play from just one match. Else we would say Iheanacho is a bad winger, or we would say Iheanacho is a bad striker or a bad support striker etc, just because of single games he's played in those positions. You get me? With Mikel on the bench, who would you play as your AM? The most versatile players will have an edge in Rohr's team. The best test is the actual match. These players are quite versatile but they have to show how effective they are in each position on match day. Oasis007: |

Oasis007: No player covers as much ground as Ndidi.. The number of tackles, he won against Algeria was outstanding. A midfield of Mikel and Ogu alone will be porous, you need a ball winner. 3 Likes |

Joebie: I agree with you. Iwobi is also becoming fat that he can't run at times and make necessary tackles & was sluggish. Was the bad pitch also responsible for that? |
