Then sorry sir, you still can't comprehend what pressing means. When you constantly put defenders to work to the point of committing fouls against you, that's what it means to press. And yes foul stats against you is the best way to rate that coupled with attempts at goal, numbers of take ons etc SerVik: 1 Like |

Lol, just because someone scored does not necessarily mean they had a great game overall. I gave him a 7.5, because even statistical sites will award quite a number of points for goals scored. And it was a ver good goal. Besides his goal, I would have given him a 6.5. He raised his game in the second half. Kwese gave Ogu a 9, Etebo a 7, and Ndidi an 8. Are you kidding me? That's like telling anyone who didn't watch the game, we controlled the midfield pretty well. Our midfield play was average, if not below par. I still put the blame on the pitch. But let's say it as it is. His splendid goal could easily make most people give him the MOTM, especially considering that was the only legit goal of the game. simple logic TheGoodJoe: 1 Like |

somehow:we have never had the best in the domestic league being called as 2nd or 3rd chioce goal keepers for the national team...the case of agbim still fresh in our memory the best goalkeepers in the domestic scene are always bypassed for less ones.... ezenwa is not the best we have in the domestic scene not even first chioce for his club side......but how he kept getting national call ups baffles me... that plateau United goal keeper is way better and a better ball playing goal keeper.... I think the likes of alampasu and uzoho should be tried...and let see what they have to offer... I am not in support of keeping them in the bench...same thing keshi did no one ever thought akpeyi was better than agbim... not not until his full debut against south Africa.... I think them all should be given a chance...I have a deep feeling that either of ajiboye, uzoho or alampasu could just steal the show..... regarding Mikel's replacement....I don't there will be any...for now. same vacuum we had after okocha and kanu retirement we will have when Mikel retires.... until we have a player who will emerge with his own style and skills... so unfortunate... 4 Likes 1 Share |

Karlovich:you mean England will integrate all of them...ejaria,lookman,Tammy,ojo,edun,solanke,ndukwe,bashiru etc it is impossible...you're talking as if you dont know England...they will drop this players as soon as they get their full national who plays in same par or better than them..... moreover they have their own nationals too who are also playing well.... so the competition gonna be strong... to be of dual nationality and still make up the first 11 in the 3 lions squad you must be exceptional good.....someone like alli who they don't have replacement for..... but I really fear for many of them....just imagine aluko case with the coach who made a racist remark on her....no one ever thought such could evolve from a civilized country like England... they still see those guys as partly Nigeria...even though they all claim to be British..... 1 Like |

Ekong is definitely the most improved Nigerian player in that match against the North Africans. His pace and timings put the opposing strikers in check and his passes were not sloppy as was the case before. Now, I am thinking an improved Ekong with our defense general,Balogun ,back to his best .....shiiiit, Phyno said OBAGO! The understanding in our central defense is almost telepathic. For me, our defense is ready. Midfield is inches away from getting there but our biggest worry is the attack. Without Ighalo we don't have a ready and trusted top 9 and this is reason why I believe Kayode should be given more chances. Iheanacho is not point man and you should have sense it against Algeria. He is better off as a SS . Nwakaeme is nowhere close to what we want our top 9 to play like. Moses Simon need to be very worried...Daalu nu. 3 Likes |

The question is how did Enyeama who was barely experienced on the international level and got thrown into the deep end at the World Cup in 2002 do it? Is it the good enough, old enough thing that triumphed that day? |

Icon4s: Idowu, Aina and Ebuehi can play RB. That competition is a contrbuting factor to Shehu's play, i believe. |

somehow:That is what pressing means. When thegoodjoe said Iheanacho presses more than Ighalo, that was what he meant. When I reaffirmed that assertion, that's what I meant. If your coach instructs you to press, that's what he means. The issue here is just semantics. Your confusion boils from the scenario where one team has a higher possession and we say the team pressed the other. Truth is, pressing is putting pressure on the opposition with the aim of winning the ball. When guardiola was in Barcelona, we had what was called the 6seconds rule. Everyplayer is expected to win the ball back 6seconds after loosing it. This is a highly tactical high octane play. Another example is klopp with Dortmund and Liverpool. Those are farfetched examples sef, let's come home. Look at siasia's team at the olympics, take special interest in the first game and you'll see the high pressing approach siasia employed. A highly possessive side must press. It is the only way to retain possession and prevent the opposition from gaining momentum. At the moment, Ighalo doesn't help in that regard. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Mujtahida: He was hardly tested that day. He had one major save against scholes, that was about it. Since then, Enyeana has improved a lot. I remember he was poor with crosses and penalties. He improved that side of his game drastically. Many home based keepers are at the beginning poor with crosses, i wonder why that is. |

As a nation, the much I know about our football history tells me that we've never been lacking in the goalkeeping department but I don't understand how we are having this problem since Ikeme became sick. 3 Likes |

tbaba1234:On this crosses thing, somebody pointed it out on another forum and laid the blame on our coaches. But I am surprised that Ezenwa couldn't deal with crosses in Constantine cos that was what stood out for me in his match against Cameroon. He was clean with crosses that day. What happened now |

Brian Idowu plays LB more regularly than Aina at club level. He is also older and more experienced. He could be a real asset. I am more worried for Ebuehi. Aina and Ebuehi are very comfortable with their left foot. |

SerVik: to put it in a simpler term, pressing draws errors, me I don't know where that foul stuff comes from. Opponents impede you when you are with the ball but you press without the ball, no semblance there(hope I fell in well) 1 Like |

Mujtahida:I agree with you to a large extent. Dodo Mayana is homegrown. Alloy Agu moved from being home based in 1990 to foreign based just cos of his performance which improved as the competition progressed. Same can be said of Ike Anobi and even Joe Dosu before the freak accident. Just as was pointed out in the days of Agbim, we may not be putting forward our best home based goalies. For that I wouldn't know why. |

Mujtahida: Actually, that was one of the reasons, i prefered him to Akpeyi. At least, he could catch crosses. I think coaching has a lot to do with keeping. Our keepers lack the foundational knowledge and depend on natural ability. I remember watching Ezenwa during the NPFL tour of spain and noticing all kinds of basic errors. In the 90s, our best keepers kept abroad. Enyeama improved a lot when he went abroad and started working on his weaknesses. Also, Enyeama was fairly young and could learn new things. Uzoho appears to have good foundations from Aspire academy straight to Deportivo but too young. It takes a bold coach to start him. |
