As a nation, the much I know about our football history tells me that we've never been lacking in the goalkeeping department but I don't understand how we are having this problem since Ikeme became sick.

We have naturally gifted keepers. The problem is not keeping ability. It is coaching. Training on positioning and claiming crosses. If it is just reflexes, we have good keepers.

It's not difficult to see that pressing causes fouls na. First of all fouls happen all over the football pitch,so why make it look like pressing is the holy of holies which causes no fouls? secondly when the attackers of a team presses the defenders of an opposing team its meant to pressure them(the defenders) and lead them to commit errors which include fouls.

Please oo, you guys should explain the rules to me. I thought this guy was having issues with switching to play for nigeria cos of the peculiar Russian citizenship laws. How come he's been drafted in abi the rules don't apply when it's friendlies?

Brian Idowu plays LB more regularly than Aina at club level. He is also older and more experienced. He could be a real asset. I am more worried for Ebuehi.

Aina and Ebuehi are very comfortable with their left foot.
Seems Ebuehi doesn't have much going for him in the team. I know Shehu has improved tremendously in that RB but it's possible that it is even the fact he knows that other options exist that have brought out the best in him. The guy plays with his soul.

I read about it.

You need to apply for dual citizenship in russia and wait for approval. That takes some time. This is essentially what delayed the switch.

Fouls drawn cannot be used as an indication of pressing, it is not conclusive.

When you press, you're more inclined to commit Fouls than draw one. Matter of fact, most referees are biased toward the player with the ball and would rarely give a foul against him.

I agree with you to a large extent. Dodo Mayana is homegrown. Alloy Agu moved from being home based in 1990 to foreign based just cos of his performance which improved as the competition progressed. Same can be said of Ike Anobi and even Joe Dosu before the freak accident. Just as was pointed out in the days of Agbim, we may not be putting forward our best home based goalies. For that I wouldn't know why.
We've always transitioned seamlessly in that goalkeeping department. At least from the era I know - Rufai, Shorunmu, Enyeama, Ikeme - but now we are stuck.

Is this not why somehow said you should show him Iheanacho's foul stats compared to that of Ighalo? Abi what was the reason for that query?
Modified: I get the point now. It is the attackers pressing who are likely to commit Fouls against the defenders.
But don't rule out fouls from the defenders on the pressing attackers. The whole point is to pressure them and pressure can lead to errors.

Not Finidi George?

In a related development, the NFF Technical and Development Committee has appointed a new technical crew for five –time word champions, Golden Eaglets.

Abdullahi Maikaba will take over as Head Coach, with Abubakar Bala as First Assistant Coach; Oluwafunsho Bunmi Haruna as Second Assistant Coach and; Baruwa Abideen as Goalkeepers’ Trainer.

Nigeria won the FIFA Cadet World Cup (which debuted in China in 1985 as an U16 competition) in 1985, 1993, 2007, 2013 and 2015.

I blame the recent coaches. We have never selected the best home based deputies. When we had Agbim deputizing for Enyeama and Ejide, what purpose did that serve? Imagine if we had the best young home based keeper deputizing.. We would have had an easier transition.

Actually, that was one of the reasons, i prefered him to Akpeyi. At least, he could catch crosses.

I think coaching has a lot to do with keeping. Our keepers lack the foundational knowledge and depend on natural ability. I remember watching Ezenwa during the NPFL tour of spain and noticing all kinds of basic errors. In the 90s, our best keepers kept abroad. Enyeama improved a lot when he went abroad and started working on his weaknesses. Also, Enyeama was fairly young and could learn new things.

Uzoho appears to have good foundations from Aspire academy straight to Deportivo but too young. It takes a bold coach to start him.
Like the Porto goalkeeper that made an error against Man U. I like him but he's error prone. Goalkeepers get better with age sha.

Which is wrong because the 6 SE matches I have watched that entailed both players, Ighalo did more pressing up-front than Iheanacho. You can try watching all our qualifiers again.
SerVik:

That is what pressing means. When thegoodjoe said Iheanacho presses more than Ighalo, that was what he meant. When I reaffirmed that assertion, that's what I meant. If your coach instructs you to press, that's what he means.

The issue here is just semantics. Your confusion boils from the scenario where one team has a higher possession and we say the team pressed the other.

Truth is, pressing is putting pressure on the opposition with the aim of winning the ball. When guardiola was in Barcelona, we had what was called the 6seconds rule. Everyplayer is expected to win the ball back 6seconds after loosing it. This is a highly tactical high octane play.

Another example is klopp with Dortmund and Liverpool. Those are farfetched examples sef, let's come home. Look at siasia's team at the olympics, take special interest in the first game and you'll see the high pressing approach siasia employed.

A highly possessive side must press. It is the only way to retain possession and prevent the opposition from gaining momentum. At the moment, Ighalo doesn't help in that regard.

It is about building our best instead of waiting for foreign club coaches to make the decision for us. Oshaniwa played well for us and deserved better. While facing his challenges in the club, the National team handlers repaid his hard work and service with an unfair treatment.

Abandoning him helped create the vacuum we are still facing in that position.

Bros, forget that Oshaniwa matter. He just didnt measure up. Super Eagles is not a dumping ground for players who couldnt make it.

From my little research then,

"Federal Law on Citizenship of the Russian Federation was adopted in 1991 and completely revised in 2002. Now it is in force with numerous amendments. This Law makes difference between the dual citizenship and the second citizenship. The dual citizenship can be possible for Russians only on the ground of international agreement. It is important to notice that Russia concluded few numbers of international treaties which contain provisions related to the dual citizenship. All other cases of obtaining foreign citizenship is considered as the second citizenship.

The Russian Federal Law does not prohibit the second citizenship. However, it is a subject of restrictions and control. The acquisition of another citizenship by a citizen of the Russian Federation shall not entail termination of the citizenship of the Russian Federation. At the same time, Russian citizenship can be granted by a decree of the President of Russia to foreign citizens. Persons who obtain the second citizenship are limited in their civic opportunities, e.g. they can’t have an access to civil service or establish mass media and control mass media in Russia. Besides, they should execute their citizen’s duties that both of the countries imply. Persons who obtain the second citizenship should declare about their foreign citizenship to the Russian bodies for migration control according to the Citizenship Law amendments of 2014. They shall submit a special declaration in according with approved form to the competent local department of Ministry for Internal Affairs (previously, to the Federal Migration Service) in 30 days. If a person who obtains the second citizenship does not submit the declaration on foreign citizenship, he should be prosecuted by criminal law."

Well, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I like Ighalo and he remains my choice for the CF role, his hold up play, ability to bring teammates into play, his constant drifting that creates holes for the support striker to pounce and his on-ball movement, ball control edges him over Iheanacho. Iheanacho's first touch is atrocious by the way.

But when it comes to off-ball movements, pressing, positioning, awareness, speed etc Iheanacho bosses him.

Greece can't upturn 4:1 deficit.

The implication is that our group cannot meet another team in pot 4, the seemingly easier teams. So we'll likely meet 2 European teams and 1 from another confederation.

Lol, just because someone scored does not necessarily mean they had a great game overall. I gave him a 7.5, because even statistical sites will award quite a number of points for goals scored. And it was a ver good goal. Besides his goal, I would have given him a 6.5. He raised his game in the second half. Kwese gave Ogu a 9, Etebo a 7, and Ndidi an 8. Are you kidding me? That's like telling anyone who didn't watch the game, we controlled the midfield pretty well. Our midfield play was average, if not below par. I still put the blame on the pitch. But let's say it as it is.

His splendid goal could easily make most people give him the MOTM, especially considering that was the only legit goal of the game. simple logic

I already said Ogu was the man of the match before the goal. The goal just confirmed it. He along side Shehu were the best in terms of dealing with the poor condition of the pitch.

As I said, Ogu's brilliant performance is not up for debate. If you do not like it, that is your opinion. It will not change the fact.

Does Rohr also earn your respect for not calling him subsequently, after running the rule over him?

I wanted Rohr to look into Oshaniwa and he did. That is all I ask. If he does not impress or fit into the coaches plan, I am okay with that. My respect for Rohr is that he looked in. It is his team and his choice to make decisions that is best for the team. As long as the coach is true to himself, he has my respect.
