Case study - 2 bedroom flat, 4 occupants.

Rent, low side is $600 & high side is $900. My assumption is that Water, sewage and waste/refuse collection fee is added.

Electricity should be around $60-$100, sparingly using the a/c, the apartment is usually cool during the sunny days and I am not a cold environment person.
Cooking and ligthing is covered here.

Internet should be between $40-$80, works for smart tvs too. You can hardly do without it.

Phone bill sgould be around $30.

Feeding no suppose pass $100 except you like burger a lotttt - ONE BASIC fast food sitting will cost about $10, multiply by 30days and you realise you need to cook.

So IF rent is $150 + utilities $80 + food $80

You have easily crossed $250. This is an average cost here for managing.

Any errors or questions, you can point it out.

If you do 6people in a 3bedroom, the cost drops further but still hovers around $200 monthly for the most essential things.

You will do some 'initial' spending when you first arrive like $500-$1,000

All the newcomer property and all the 'down payments' or 'caution deposits'.

You can save here by moving into an existing apartment (joining older students).

If you get the month to month lease option, I prefer that. 9 or 12 months lease na long thing.

MackyNaija:
Cleared the parallel parking and did another drive round a living area, did the driving well but came to a point where I had 'right of way' but I didn't take it - another mistake I did, but i refuse to take than refuse to give - not giving right of way when I should should be a heavier traffic violation.

I then drove back to their office and parked the vehicle - then she told me about the one handed driving, lack of looking back when reversing, parking a little far for the curb after parallel parking and where I failed to take right of way.
She also said I was turning too close to the curb when making right turns, all the same I passed - no grades for me but I shouldn't have scored below 80%.

A paper was issued to me, the driving license in card form will be received in the mail 2-3weeks from now.
License to drive the whole of Texas acquired! smiley I don sharply drop a copy of my license inside my guy car... 'I no like nonsense' cheesy

Congrats bro, still using my international driving licence from nigeria

What kinda sign would the person be holding?

It is barely 6weeks before the semester ends...

I can't wait to be done.

Workload has reduced a little in the past 2 weeks...
Truly, they rushed us toooo much at the start of the program.

We have gone through half of the coursework for most classes, looking forward to writing more exams and quizzes.

Tiredness comes in once in a while, It isn't a burnout - that I am sure of, just tired..

I think it was for a jewelry store. I usually see sign holders for the tax-prep companies, and some restaurants. I never knew the job was that lucrative.

Keep it up. Your hard work will pay off in the end.

Thanks man.

The DST ended today at 2a.m.. All devices connected to the internet did an auto update of time.

The difference is evident, just 6p.m and it is dark already.

Spent the weekend out of town as usual but this one was different... Stayed out the entire 3days.

I went hunting for a keke but it didn't come out positive.
I had an impression there were no scrap kekes in USA but I was proven wrong so I had to cut the search short.

Will re-strategize and try Houston this Thanksgiving holiday.

Took a few random road pictures....

You are very welcome sir.

Apply for direct PhD, you might hit the jackpot and get accepted for a fully funded program.

F1 too sure, add H1B and everything is set. cool

I thought USCIS stopped processing H1-B visas in April.
I'm a prospective doctor of optometry tho( will grad next year), and I'm planning to start taking steps toward a possible migration in 2021-23.

From my little understanding, the 'battle' is against a certain group that import WAEC certificate equivalent holders, call them skilled workers, give them a little 'training' and they are suddenly termed professionals in that field.

They are the ones that have issues with USCIS, those getting advanced degrees (not imported WAEC as my guy would call it grin) from American institutions of higher learning have little to worry about.

I plan to come as a student to do a one-year residency program in a specialty, then move on from there.
I'm getting my doctor of optometry degree here though.
How feasible?

I am not in the medical line but I am thinking you are asking about doing 'an internship with an engineering degree'?

The chances will be slim getting one from nigeria with a nigerian degree but you can always look for another degree to do here and then you can proceed from there.

Nah, an OD isn't an engineering degree.
I'm an eye doctor.
Usually, OD's in the US do a residency in a specialty of eye care after their 4 year OD program.
I'm asking about the possibility of coming with an F1 visa to join them, then changing status to H1-B from there.
NB- OD in Africa is a straight 6 year program while in the US its a four year program after 4 years of college.

Sorry, my post was incomplete - I wrote that in a hurry.
...I meant doing something like 'an internship like we do after getting an engineering degree'.
I understand a residency is like an internship like we do in engineering.

What I am saying is I haven't heard of a US establishment giving an international student with international certificate an opportunity to do residency.

If you come with an F1, you might have to first do some sort of additional school work b4 being eligible for 'an internship' (pardon my calling it internship).

The result is out, my worst performance so far..
Going by the raw score, I got a 'B' grade and I think 2 people got an 'A' grade.

I no deh feel bad, the man play us 419. The tumbling was a serious something. sad

I have learnt my lesson and will put lessons learnt into practice. Everything seems to still be on course, levels need to change on this course.
Going thru my old posts and I saw this one...
I wrote the second exam today, see crying...

Different answers from different people cheesy I don't even know what to say about the prof. that is an expert at tumbling us but I feel my own answer is the correct one. grin
Waiting for the result, and I think I am still in contention for that 'A' grade.

Writing another one tomorrow....
People say schooling in yankee is easy - na lie! embarassed Wetin my eye don see for here no be play.

The semester is gradually drawing to an end and I cant wait! Thankful for the Thanksgiving Holiday from Wednesday (half day) to Sunday.
