Everyone has now turned experts on trains. Even those who have never been on a train, whether high speed or snail speed, surface or underground. Nigerians and negativity are one of a kind.

The problem is that some lack comprehension. The report says Africa's fastest trains, not world's fastest.

Outside of Europe how many countries use TGV?

Does Nigeria need to pay that premium now? Why not build up a viable network and then go from there?

In the same way that you wouldn't buy your daughter a Rolls Royce as a first vehicle it doesn't make sense for Nigeria to buy TGVs.
Exactly I just smh for some these people, we have been using 19th Century train that aren't working, now at least we have a 20th century train to kick start our rail transport that has been grounded for many years and they are still complaining they want the types they use in China, Japan and the rest developed countries.

I always use this type of trains in back in London from my house to school. So they are still in existence in modern societies just that they have routes they also use the high-speed modern ones.

Nigerian government and lies, These are not current train system.

These are the train used and abandoned for better technology.

They ship it to Nigeria because the nigerian rail system has not been upgraded and that is well suited for the achaic rail road we have.

Please google to see latest train and the rail road.

Stop calling this fastest

No one cares about this in civilized society
No longer in use in most places

This is no different from the Gatwick express which is a high speed train.

I'm pretty sure you have never left the shores of your country.

Leave them. They want to jump from nothing to the highest form of technology, even when they don't have the necessary infrastructures or capacity to manage it effectively. That in itself is part of the Nigerian problem. Not knowing how to find tailor-made solutions to our problems. We just import anything and think it will work.

Why are you bringing up aeroplanes when we are talking about trains?

Why can't you stay on track?

And when you say backward in 'everything' are you willing to admit that that includes the thinking of the majority of the people, including yourself?

I haven't used the Gatwick Express but that Heathrow Express is a rip-off. Might as well get a taxi if you're traveling with a companion and some luggage.

And it isn't really 'high speed' - it just doesn't stop at all the stations in between Heathrow and Paddington.

Well thankfully the Nigerian government has not listened to the senseless wailing of these idiots.

They actually have a good plan, let the government execute first. Then Nigerians can do what they know how to do - shout abuse and cry about nothing.

Actually they are not as bad as most people here think. The ones already here are more convenient than travelling by road using public transport. Air conditioner, t.v, right on time, no hold up.

What exactly is wrong with it?

Nigeria is a country in which we can't even make the spoke of a bicycle wheel and yet we condemn a service that is used worldwide.

Thats your major problem.. Youre so blinded with hatred that you think whoever dont align with you support the other side.

GEJ, Buhari are all failures...Nigeria is almost become a failed state, the harsh economic realities hit us hard.. And if the only alternative weve got is Atiku, then we are in for a long thing.

OP, 160 kph is not high speed in the world of trains but as a fan of rail transport am excited Nigeria is showing sustained interest in this direction and commend the government for backing this up with concrete steps.

We donot need to start with high speed trains and we donot need to start with passenger traffic. The government should invest more into cargo traffic where the problem lies and where the money is to further expand investment.

It breaks my heart to see what we transport cross cou try on our roads, cargoes that are not worth the roads they pass on. Roads are built primarily to be 'soft' for comfort travel and to to ease the wear on tyres. They have load limits and when this is exceeded the normally elastic bituminous infusion gives way. Rail lines on the other hand are made from high strength corrosion resistant alloyed steel which is near indestructible. The load limits are tens of times more than roads and maintenance is just a fraction of the cost. So when we use our highways to haul such heavy loads as cement, stones, steel products and such worth less cargoes as farm produce we are eroding the resources with which to expamd and deepen our infrastructure foot print. Not surprising that we have not launched or comissioned any major, meaningful piece of transportation infrastructure in the last decade and a half. We are just battling to maintain the ones we have and losing that battle.

If the government can provide a carrot in reliable cross country rail services and a stick in heavy tolling of articulated vehicles on the highway we can save huge amounts off our annual budget. The roads will be safer, last longer and enable us to focus on building newer, more efficient ones.

Thus is what investors both local and foreign look out for, cost and efficiency of transport. Rail transport is known world wide to be the safest, cheapest and most reliable. When government has satisfied commerce and industry it can then focus on passenger transport. As a matter of fact this is best done by states which should invest in city to city linkages where the bulk of traffic resides. There are a lot more people travelling from parts of Ogun or Oyo to Lagos or Rivers to Abia or Anambra to Imo or Kano to Kaduna than there are folks travelling from say Kano to Lagos or Abuja to Portharcourt. States can do even more in this regards.

Compared to rail services in most other countries it's more expensive and slower.

And that is a general issue with British rail services in general - hence why people have been clamoring for the state to take over rail services again, prices have gone up but service has gotten worse.

There's nothing wrong with it if it's priced accordingly but in the UK it isn't.

The problem the UK Rail have is capacity not slow service . The population is increasing faster then services could cope hence Brexit .
