Mujtahida:the answer to your question is relative.... because I see no boys amongst the members of the super eagles squad.. they're no boys amongst them...they're all men....even those who argue for their inclusion like sokari, Joel obi, ajagun etc... these guys are men and not boys... so take that postulation back to Udezi maybe during their time they have so many boys in the team..... guess him too was a boy then...reason why he was overwhelmed.... 1 Like |

Kog45: Having watched sokari for a while, i can tell you that he is not a player in the mold of those u just listed. Sokari is a CM (deep lying playmaker), if it's true he been scouted by rohr, I don't think it is to replace Mikel. |

We've had players like Maroof Youseff, Aaron Moses, C Nwakali, Osimhen, Success in camp so why would anyone be worried about Sokari's invitation. 3 Likes |

soetanoreoluwa:We can get a psychologist to make you believe you can man our Post....it takes a lot more bro. If you watch the games Ezenwa has played for SE, you will notice he has been consistently erratic, even the games he kept a clean sheet. Akpenyi is terribly poor and Uzoho is inexperienced. If we can’t get an in form Enyeama, we can kiss the group stage good bye |

Humility017:seems you have an issue with Udeze and you have given a rather literal meaning to the words 'boys' 'men' which might make our discussion meaningless because Micheal Owen was just 18 at France 98 and he played like a man. Remove Udeze from the discussion. even the great messi said(let me give you a direct quote) 'the nerves of the opening games can force you to make mistakes...' (from FIFA.com Messi watches Brazil 2014). so if messi who has played at the WC even up to the final can say so then how can you give the impression that the WC is not an herculean task? my simple understanding of 'boys' and 'men' is not age, i regard those who can cope with the pressures of the WC out of sheer ability or out of experience or combination of both whether they are 15, 18, 28, 30 as the men and those who cannot cope with the pressures and intensity whether they are 35 or 40 as the boys. its not a matter of age but the ability to stand up to the challenges of the moment. you have given an entirely different twist to what udeze said out of your attempt to ridicule him. i never said udeze said he was overwhemed or not overwhelmed. i only reported what he said on channels tv when the sports tonight were analysing our WC group. please my guy lets not make this discussion about Udeze. Okocha, Kanu, Mutiu, Taribo West or even any football analyst could as well have said what udeze said and i have just given you what messi said. 2 Likes |

MetalJigsaw: Contrary to the negative feedback, after Agu's poor performance in the first half when he replaced Onazi in the game against Zambia, he put up a tidy display in the second half. Something only Ogu and Hope Akpan has brought to the Super Eagles in recent years. I am not quick to write Agu off. People try to hang onto a poor few minutes and deliberately decided to neglect Agu's good second half display. That is like saying Nigeria was poor against Argentina in the friendly because of our display in the first half. Agu had a poor fifteen minutes in the first half. The second half was refreshing. |

FabioPeter: I disagree, the young players can step up if given the chance. The problem is that the Goalkeeping Department have played with the role for whatever reason that is best known to them. That does not mean that we lack quality to feel the role. |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by MetalJigsaw(m): 11:03am On Dec 26, 2017 |
TheGoodJoe:How do you asses his performances generally when playing in for Nigeria? In how many appearances has he impressed when called upon compared to his poor displays? We all saw Ogu and what he did with the little chance he was afforded. You said he put up a " tidy display" . is that all is required of him to feature in our midfield let alone replace Marshall Mikel Obi in crucial matches? |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 11:07am On Dec 26, 2017 |
MetalJigsaw: From what I noticed, Rohr is more interested in the defensive qualities of his midfielders than their offensive qualities. I used to be one of the loudest drums for Aluko's invitation, with what I see, I do not see Aluko fitting the bill. Keep in mind that Mikel Obi also has a brilliant ability to read the game and intercept build up plays of the opponents. I think these are the qualities Rohr is looking for than a creative attack midfielder. |

Mujtahida: I have been waiting for people to role out names like Owen, Ronaldo, Pele and co who competed as teenagers at the World Cup. But look at those names again. They are no mediocre names in football. And they are all forwards and not Goalies or defenders. If Uzoho was a De' Gea or Courtious at their teenages no problems. Do you know the weight of responsibility that follows being a Word Cup goalie for an under dog like Nigeria? Since after the late 90s Nigeria ceased to be a Super power and mostly under dogs in any games we played in the WC. Until we beat Bosnia in 2014 the last WC game we won was against Bulgaria in 1998. Go look at the statistics of the number of saves made by both Ike and Enyeama for each game from 2002 WC to 2014WC. The only game in our last 3 WC that we were on the front foot from start to finish was against Iran. The other games we were mostly under heavy attacks and our goalkeepers saved the day for us. Even winning MOTM even despite defeats. Believe it or not we are still under dogs. In the game against Croatia I expect them to be the more offensive side with numerous shots on goal. We would be counting on quick counters on that game. I don't know how you guys come to have confidence in Uzoho. I don't trust that guy yet. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 11:12am On Dec 26, 2017 |
MetalJigsaw: Agu did not replace Mikel Obi to marshal the midfield in a creative fashion but to constrict spaces for the opponents to exploit. Yes, Agu has not had convincing performances but the second half performance against Zambia highlights the quality I feel endears Rohr to him. It is a rear quality you can not easily find. Even an Onazi-Ndidi combination does not bring that kind of shielding. So, I am not calling Agu the best thing since sliced cake bread. I am saying Agu has a quality that makes him an asset to the team, especially if Ogu picks up an injury or we need to rest him but still need that shielding quality. That quality also brings out more from Ndidi who plays with less fear. Gerrit? |

FabioPeter:like you I want the best goalkeeper for the world cup and like you also I would not mind Vincent making a return but i don't share your view that if for whatever reason he can't come back it will necessarily lead to our ouster. Yes ezenwa is not the solution but we made due with him but I have faith that come June next year we will have a capable goalie 1 Like |

Icon4s: In the game against Argentina, we saw Uzoho has more quality than Akpeyi and has better nerves than him. So, Uzoho is a better pick, if the World Cup stage is herculean as you make it why going there with Akpeyi with nerves of glass? Ezenwa has confidence and is brave. However, he is weak in the air when he comes against Challenges. So in that respect, Uzoho remains a better pick who shows better strength in the air. Without Enyeama and Ikeme, the young lads can perform well if given a nod. De Gea and Courtious were brilliant in their teens because the got someone who showed faith in them. We would not be talking of Uzoho if Pepe Mel did not show faith in him. I say Alampasu, Ajiboye, Uzoho, Aiyenugba, slug it out in camp. The best three get selected and the best gets the nod. Than crying for Enyeama as if our lives depends on it. 5 Likes 1 Share |

MetalJigsaw: We have to respect Rohr's choices. Just like he played Etebo in Mikel’s role, which left Iheanacho stranded up front with no supplies, I feel Rohr prefers restricting the plays of the opponents over creating chances from the midfield, then we respect it. As time goes on, we will see what he is building. So, the likes of Joel Obi, Aluko, Raheem Lawal, Sokari etc might not get a nod for the World Cup. I feel with Rohr's current system, Mikel’s creativity is a bonus. |

TheGoodJoe: Hmm Ezenwa's only weakness is he is poor in the air and for that you bloat him out completely from the camp. If there is one goalie that has the highest chance of making the final team it is Ezenwa. Even if he ends up not as first choice. You guys are underrating the goalkeeping position. OK o. |

Please and please; 1. Austin Ejide & Dele Aiyenugba MUST NOT go to Russia 2018. They have passed their prime. 2. Rohr should consider Francis Uzoho, Sebastian Osigwe & Maduka. Let's play them in our next friendlies 2 Likes 1 Share |

Icon4s: Did you not see what the Algerians did? They noticed this weakness of Ezenwa and exploited it. So good was their execution they made Ezenwa look average. Underrating the role is sending weak keepers in the name of experience over keepers who have better qualities to bring to the table. 1 Like |

solonnachi: My only problem is bias selection which was exemplified with the selection of Akpeyi and Ezenwa when it is obvious we have better choices. If they will invite a handful of goalkeepers and select the best, I have no problem bringing in an old brigade to add to the mix. However, I do not trust the coaching crew to select the best and I see the Goalkeeping Department being our weakest point if we go in with bias and sentiments in our selections. |

zicky: You are right about Ogbeche. I was annoyed he was no longer given the chance to play for us after the WC despite the fact that he played regularly alongside Ronaldiho at PSG. Ogbeche was not invited to the WC because of that bicycle kick. He was invited because he was regular for PSG as at that time. He played alongside Ronaldiho in the league and already played the in the UEFA cup prior to the WC. 24 league game is not moi moi. Hence, Ogbeche rightly deserved to had made that WC. His case is not different from Mbappe. I know if Mbappe was only eligible to play for Nigeria, some people here will tell you he is not ripe enough to go to the WC. But your wrong misconception and submission about Opabumi is fallacious because Opabumi went as far as playing for the best club in Switzerland, Grasshoppers(they were current champion when Opabumi was bought), One of the best clubs in Isreal (Nwakaeme and Ogu's current club) and in the French league before his eyes brought is career to an end. The guy even played in the UEFA cup immediately after the WC yet he was not given a call. His case was like Oshimen who Rohr is bent on taking to the WC because of his expoilt at U17. Prior to the WC, he scored a goal in a friendly for the SE and that sealed his spot to the WC. He was not a CF rather a LW. Na blindness spoil em career and not ability. |
