Icon4s: TheGoodJoe is right. Jero made the 22-man list as the first choice RB while Mobi was dropped. Mobi only came back to the squad after the injury to Jero in the match against Holland. We were doing well until he was taken out but his substitute Eguavoen's performance was so bad in the match, that he had to be replaced by Godwin Opara in the same match. That was the first time i ever saw a substitute being substituted 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe:you Know better but I'm not suprise this is coming from you. I know you'll go to any length to defend your school of thought. Here is one question for you. I won't go far this time around. Ighalo was turning heads up, tearing anything in his way while playing for Watford yet still he struggled to net a goal for Nigeria despite been in the form of his life. Why didn't he replicate such form for the national team despite his multiple invitations? Atleast he was invited several times. |

AIG07: I am okay with dropping a player who does not replicate his form with his club in camp. Let alone after a series of games with the team. However, I am against guessing a player will not perform for the team when he has not gotten a chance in camp or with the National team. Gerrit? |

Kog45:your first paragraph spelt it out. Yes First invitation. Club performance get a player noticed. It get's him his first call up. Replicating that performance that got him invited in the national side is another thing. Cc: Sir Junnyake Modified: other attributes like players attitude, coach's philosophy(team strategy, formations, playing patterns)etc are huge determinants. 2 Likes 1 Share |

It will be hard for rohr to drop nacho cos his stats for the eagless speaks for him.. But truly that dude is drastically retrogressing I swear.. this is not what we clamored for.. Although am not rohr but if I should have my way, any player that isn't cutting it at his club side ain't making that list... |

AIG07: The underachievement of many players at their clubsides is what's keeping them out of the team. I don't see why I should explain a point as simple as that. Torres has been tested and trusted, he was really a hot commodity in Europe then from athletico Madrid to Liverpool. Even at that, were Spain left with other options?? Even when he was taken to the '10 WC what happened? He flopped big time. If it wasn't for David Villa who was at I think Valencia at the time, I wonder if they'd have been able to go far enough to win. Yes Febregas was always getting invites but it was Xavi and Iniesta running the show. I'm sure you know why. Club football is different from national football, bit club performance is what gives us an insight into what you can bring to the team. We were talking about Ezenwa, apart from his obvious weaknesses, what attributes does he have that sets him apart from other keepers in the league, what's he offering the team that's so special and unique others can't. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Icon4s: Eguavoen got the nod based on experience. Just like Mobi got the nod based on experience over a better Jero. We have been robbing better quality players their chances of playing based on experience. |

chidi1: He was one of our creative playmaker as you rightly said, or so I thought, until we met a formidable team and unfortunately he couldn't measure up. Obviously as a player he is below average. On his chapter, I am forced to want to agree with @komern that levels exist in football. And that is why a player playing and performing in top leagues (which translates as top level) is far better than a player in lower/poor leagues (low level). I watched Imoh Ezekiel run rings at the earlier stages of the Olympics and was in complete awe of his performance. His runs, dribbles, cutt ins, and decisive crosses into the box was an art to watch. I daresay that most of our wins were inspired by him, he tormented the oppositions 2 and 3 no matter where he played between 7 or 11. He was a joy to watch, several times he left the defenders panting after turning them inside out coupled with his pace. But there was a big BUT!.. When e jam him level in Germany, he himself know how far. Dude couldn't complete one successful dribble. Heck! I could count the number of times he was allowed to control the passes that came his way. All he could do was to pass sideways or backwards all through the semifinals against Germany. I was slighted, what the hell. We were 1/2 goals down and each time Imoh Ezekiel got the ball, he lost it, he couldn't even beat anyone of his German marker. That match confirmed my research postulations about football that "once you no reach, you no reach" there is absolutely nothing you can do once you are not good enough against your opponent. Eg: Chances are that arsenal will lose 8 times out of 10 to Barcelona, why?.. Because against Barcelona, Arsenal no reach! Simples. The truth is that the teams we played against enroute the semifinal were wacky, and when we came up against a better side in Germany, Imoh Ezekiel entered "ghost mode", not just him but many of the them that day including Nura Abdullahi who was faced one on one with the German keeper but fumbled. Now going into the world cup, we are going to be facing top sides right from match day one, do you honestly think that Imoh Ezekiel can deliver better than what we have on ground presently?... The current players delivering for us are at best average. Imoh Ezekiel to me is not even average but below average, especially considering his current form. Canvassing for such a player right now is a disservice to football as a whole. At this stage of our preparations towards the world cup, if you must suggest a player be sure that such a player is above average atleast before we can start even analyzing who he is going to displace from the current team. 3 Likes |

OMANBALA1:Pls read my comment on Dosu in the previous pages on how he got invitation to Atlanta 96 team,i said it was based on pure business between Churchill Olishe and Bonfrere Jo not that he was better than Emma Babayaro or Abiodun Baruwa.I never rate him but that doesn't erased his contribution to Adewale bridge boys. |

lexyman: That's what it looks like when you take it on the face value of the qualifiers but seriously, does it not worry you one bit that our attackers haven't managed to score this season? You must understand that teams have more than 9 months to figure us out , on the back of a solid 1 month camping , expect more sturdy and organized opponents . The dynamics are not the same. Also, most of our attacking players (bar Musa and V.Moses) dont have big tournament experience with the Super Eagles, I wonder the reason for the optimism that these goal shy strikers (most don't even make their team bench anymore) will suddenly cake walk the world cup on the back of African WQ and a good half in a friendly game. We need a reality check . Sincerely |

TheGoodJoe: Abegi, I know that is why you have been placing emphasis on Eguavoen versus Holland. How many games did Jerome Shakponke play before then that you have concluded he was better than Mobi. It was just the friendly against Jamaica. A very easy game that we even drew 2-2. Jerome had a good game but every certified coach knows you don't throw away your regular player due to a single performance of a new player. Jamaica, Yugoslavia and Holland, were they on the same level? |

oloriooko:this is such a silly thing to say. Sometimes, people on this thread make some comments that make you want to insult them. What kind of rubbish talk is that? So, it was only that friendly Kelechi scored in? He doesn't have 8 goals in 14 games for Nigeria? You wiped that from you memory to make some useless point? And it is me that is taking things personal Like I said, please, do not watch any of our games during the World Cup because Kelechi is on our team, in that period, you can occupy yourself watching YouTube highlights of Martins games in China since you want to see Martins play so badly. Internet coach....you love Nacho indeed 3 Likes |

M7even: This is why I want Enyeama or Aiyegbeni back but Aloy Agu who stopped us from winning the 1990 AFCON and ended our sojourn in 1992 AFCON is bent on bringing back Ejide wey never play ball for donkey years into the National team ahead of better goalkeepers. This[sup][/sup] is the same sentiment Clement Westerwolf used to select Alloy Agu becuase he was his Inlaw and dropped Rufia but wen em eye clear nobody told him to use Rufia in 1994. Agu wan bring sentiment come our national team because he was also a benefactor. ALLOY AGU MUST BE SACKED ELSE WE WILL REGRET. 1 Like |
