FOLYKAZE:

Is Buhari not paying tax too? He earns salary after tax has been deducted.

And where is the evidence that Yusuf medical bill is offset from tax money? You guys just real out garbage from your anu just to prove a point.

On the principle of equity, the Church and Mosque is a business avenue which must be taxed. In UK, churches and religion centres are been taxed. This is because most full term pastors and bishops are been paid salary. The church earn revenue from every possible means. Either by selling religion items or offering money for special prayers. All these are no different from corporate organizations that render services or Industries that sells manufactured products which are taxed.

The Church property like every other Business properties should be taxed. The Sales revenue and Salaries of Pastors should be taxed too. There should no exception because both Church and it operators earn Moneypenny. There is money flow that is taxable. These pastors or whatever they tag themselves should pay income tax just like every person. And the church which makes money from the congregation should also pay tax just like every other business or institution

QED.

The church and mosques(if taxable) will soon retject this injustice. Buhari son will soon be flown abroad with tax payers money while those who pay the tax can't afford such.
If it were to be a church member who can't afford a church school we criticize the pastors but here govt officials are taxing us against our will and enjoying what we can't enjoy. Any attempt to tax the church is an attempt to tax the people twice.

Absolute double taxation.

All income to churches/mosques (Tithes, offering, Fisebilillah & special donations) is after all the individual has been taxed. Any other church income apart from members contributions SHOULD be Tax. E.g. Sales of books, and income from other investments.

Shalom!

Supported!

Lagos is a model state of a true federalism. That is how it should be.
Lagos can stand on its own and not even depend on the federal allocation.

Any region seeking to breakaway should first grow its economy and physical infrastructural development before making noise of secession.

Ipob copy that?

How will they calculate the tax for each church/ mosque?
And what about churches/ mosques that don't generate a kobo?

They'll value the property and tax them based on the value. Mind you, the valuation is to be done by Government valuers.

Dosen't make sense.

Even in places where the tax regimes are very strict, churches are not taxed , let alone a corrupt shitt-hole like Lagos.

I know i speak against extravagant clergies, but then Churches are like NGOs.

Their donations are voluntary.

Lagos state can as well tax the beggars on the street, or NGOs, or orphanages.

Amen, Amen and Amen.

Meanwhile, Churches must be taxed. It's unfair for churches to be registered as charities for charitable works and they refuse to do those charitable works.

How many Churches are taking care of IDPs? Its foreign charities doing their jobs.

Let's start from property tax on religious bodies. From there, who knows where next we'll move to.

This Bill won't be an issue for tithe collecting centres but for the true churches and mosques where people go to pray and to worship God this will be an issue.

Apparently, the law makers could not distinguish between the tithe collecting churches and the real ones, hence their decision bto lump them together.
We know too well that some so called churches are huge money generating establishment and no doubt should pay their statutory tax as such rather than mask their objective under the umbrella of church or mosque.

In my opinion a little review of the Bill would suffice.
Probably, according to the size. For example any such building with a capacity to house from 1000 people and above may fall under the Bill.

When you won't read the post before typing nonsense. The tax is not on the church income as that is exempt from taxation by the Companies and Allied Matters Act.

However, the tax would be based on the properties occupied by those churches. Na RCCG go suffer am pass. You claim not to make profit but you're buying multi billion naira properties. Meanwhile, your members are in IKEJA General hospital unable to pay hospital bills and waiting for divine intervention.
All brawn.
The properties are bought with seed entrusted in the hands of the church leaders. It is up to the contributors to make that decision and not poke-nose govt and posters like you.
