Yeah he played in a double pivot. Truth is he never got to fulfill his potential. He could've been a bit more expansive in that DM role but he chose to keep it simple all the time.

That was the genius of the role and that was what helped him last in the role and helped Chelsea have their most successful run. The more you want would have taken away the exceptional class of Mikel Obi playing the holding role.

An excerpt from a Bleacherreport article:

Filling Makelele’s boots is a big shoe to fill for anyone, but for a 21-year old to come in with nowhere near the same level of experience, and not only patrol the midfield enough to shield the defence but also to be in the right place at the right time to start counter attacks – and to do this consistently – is an even bigger ask.

What made Makalele Special was keeping it simple all the time. It instilled security.

Thank you.I can say it anywhere that our US 94 team were average but solid as a team.

Since you can't define average, I would like us to reason a little?

Which league in this era can we compare with the Belgian league of that era?

It is very easy to say France because PSG and Monaco dominated this era in the French and even in Europe while Anderlecht and C. Brugge dominated in Belgium and in Europe in that era. And the both were/are rated within the top 5 - 6 leagues in Europe if we compare then and now.

Anderlecht and C. Brugge were even better than the current PSG and Monaco of today.

Having said that, can we say Mbbape is an average player?

If not, then how can you say Victor Ikpeba, Daniel Amokachi and Chidi Nwanu were average players?

Victor Ikpeba won the Ebonyi award in the Belgian league which was among the top 5 in Europe in 1993 before he moved up the ladder to the top 3 leagues and one of the best clubs in Europe.

Daniel Amokachi also won the Ebony award and the best foreigner award in Belgium twice and came third btw 1992- 1994. Don't forget that Club Brugge reached the UEFA champions league finals not too long and the semi finals of cup winners cup in 92. They were just like the Monaco of today and that was the club he played for prior to the WC.

Chidi Nwanu was played for Anderlecht prior to the WC and he was the Silver winner of the Ebony award after he came second behind Ikpeba while Daniel Amokachi was third in 1993. Don't forget that Anderlecht was in the finals of cup winners cup in 90 and reached the quarter finals of UEFA cup. They were among the best of course.

Rashidi Yekini was the highest goal scorer in the 4 or 5 best league in Europe in 1993. Don't forget he was the top goal scorer in the lucrative Nigerian and Ivory coast league. He had won the highest scorer award in two AFCONs and won the best player of the tournament in 1994 though he was the third in the previous tournament. Oh! A one time AFOTY and runner up at as 1994.

Emmanuel Amunike won the best footballer award in 1994. Zamalek was also a force in Africa.

Stephen Keshi already played for Anderlecht.

What is the rating of the Belgium league of these days?

Can you compare it to that Belgium league of that era?

Were are the average players here?

Pls don't deceive the ignorants here.

...so Who then are those no. 10s that should give Mikel a run for his money in that position? You’ve been running round in circle.

Drop the name.
All I'm saying is we need a backup for Mikel in case of injury. Don't put words in my mouth.

I will answer those asking you soon with confirm ratings from confirmed independent unbiased source.

Mikel can't play for us till eternity.

He struggled to play the number 10 role early in his SEs career. It is just recently he managed to play in the AMF.

We have played that can play that role wells. Hold on.

Then it is good you speak the thruth.

I started watching football at national stadium in 1984 and am very sure the Belgian league was among the top 5 in Europe because it was very popular in the late 80s due to the fact that many clubs from there played in the finals and semi finals of Cup winners cup, European cup and UEFA cup.

Forgiveness and komekn plz add this guy Hakeeb Adelakun to ur endless list of Anglo Nigerians Rohr music invite. He is 21 and plays for scunthop in league2. He has 9assists and 3 goals in 21matches so far this season and he is wanted by crystal Palace as a rep for Zaha. Sunderland and Hull are also pushing for his siggy.

I like his physique though. He is well built.

By the way, Anderlecht is already lining up free agent Imoh Ezekiel as a rep for injured Onyekuru. Anderletch coach said Imoh perfectly fits the bill. Good luck to Imoh, I pray he revives his career there while Onyekuru gets better and go back to Everton. Na win win situation for us.

I already know him but it is not enough to clamour for him without thoroughly monitoring him.

If he is consistent and does incredible things then I will know he is good enough.

boss lol you should know him by now he will never allow facts to get in the way of some immature need to win an argument. Ask him to name the number of European titles club sides from the elite Belgian league won during the 80s and 90s you will see him running upandan shifting things again
